I'm surprised no one on this board has posted about it. As a guy who's been growing overly tired of the abundance of FPS that this generation of gaming has brought, Far Cry 3 by far makes itself stand out from the rest. From the excellent story-telling, the interesting cast of characters, the excellent antagonists (The character Vaas will simply wow you as a villain) and the wide range of gameplay options that keep the game fresh simply make up a package that is by far my favorite that I've played this year. It's a beautiful world with so much to do in it and so much that keeps you on your toes throughout the entire single player campaign.
I couldn't recommend any more that this game should be played by all gamers. There's so much here to be experienced and that's coming from a guy that has been growing tired of FPS. If you buy, you will not regret it one bit.

On my Christmas list. Haven't played any of the other Far Crys but always been interested by the open world and great graphics. Was reading up on it and seems like one of the best games that has come out in recently.
Do I need any background on the other Far Cry games?

No background information is needed to play this. You will get the full experience and be simply blown away by this game.On my Christmas list. The first Far Cry was one of the best shooters I've ever played. The second was one of the worst.
The first's AI was amazing. They would take cover, call for back up and try to flank.
The second had one tactic, go Rambo and charge!
I'm hoping the third is more like the first than the second.

I've had so much fun playing this game. I was SO surprised by the amount of animals in this game, went swimming in the water, saw a sting-ray, and then a shark scared the heck out of me and started biting me haha.

This game is beast! First few hrs playing I ran into some trouble with the pirates and jumped into the river only to be death-rolled by a croc.
LOVE the stealth aspect of the game, lurking around the jungle popping pirates with my silenced sniper rifle during an outpost liberation. And the different vehicles? Amazing. Nothing like taking a hang-glider flying for miles.

Loved playing stealthily. The game does an incredible job allowing you to complete missions the way that you want best without having too many disadvantages compared to other play styles. You can go guns blazing, use stealth, or if you want to fall in between you can do that as well.This game is beast! And looking at the scope of the game from the hang-glider is nothing short of amazing. Beautiful game.

Yep it did. You can't access the online portion of the game without it. The multiplayer has been a hit and miss with people from what I see but it wasn't for me personally.Does this have any online activation codes? It's Ubisoft, so I assume it does.

However, it's worth the $60 for the single player alone. You'll get a good 20-30 hours of gameplay with some exploring thrown in between along with the main quest.

Nice. Unfortunately, I've torn up my mouse hand. Between work and gaming, I can't spend a lot of time on a mouse. It kills me, but I rarely game on PC anymore (the best gaming platform). Oddly, an xbox controller doesn't bother me.
So, I've been relegated to xbox. *sigh*

Well, Amazon had a gold box deal, picked it up for $35.
You guys are correct, it's quite awesome. Took me a while to really get into it, but once I did.....
I was trying to liberate an outpost, trying stealth for the xp bonus. I'm sneaking around heading for a guy that went outside the perimeter. I suddenly hear all kinds of gun fire. A tiger had entered the outpost and started killing everyone. I was right by the guy on the outside as he was shooting at the tiger, took him down with the knife. I was sold on this game right then and there!!
