People saying short routes cannot be infused into our offense in such short notice are funny! Its not re-inventing something crazy here...we're just talking about short routes and using the middle of the field. This, along with situational play calling, will change from this point forward!

Exactly. And it's not as if there aren't short routes in Cam's play-book. We've seen slants, screens and drags this season. I clearly remember seeing three WR screens in the first Steelers game (one was botched due to an early shotgun snap by Birk). The problem was Cam's refusal to call them enough, especially when the o-line was clearly struggling. Hopefully, Caldwell is different.

Gotta admit its somewhat reassuring to hear Cosell's take on this situation. Brees and Rivers thrived after Cam departed them. A control freak can be stifling, and it seems natural that Joe at this point needs to sink or swim largely on his own.

It's time for a new beginning in BAL. Jim Caldwell has a lot of work to do with Flacco and the rest of the offense. He must know that while this season is on the line, he must also plan for the seasons to come. He shouldn't get discouraged too quickly. Luckily, Ray Lewis should be coming back soon, which should bolster the defense, which will help put pressure off the offense.

Flacco stands in the pocket too long. He's good outside the pocket, and his mobility is very underrated, he just doesn't use it enough.

he as excellent mobility for a big guy, but he isn't good throwing on the run, i've seen some horrible throws from him while he is running. So basically if he starting moving, he better be running for like 5 yards at least, otherwise he is better off staying in the pocket and hoping someone gets open.

He's not terrible throwing on the run either though. Some throws may be off, but he's hit some over the course of his career.

great analysis but what is it going to take for us to finally have shorter route combinations. i have faith caldwell is smart enough to know that.

I think with Caldwell's time with Indy, he will bring more shorter routes like the slants to this offense. He will also give hand the reigns over to Flacco a little more.

Short routes and the Coryell do not mix. Norv will run the same broken system Cam ran, but maybe slightly better. It's a broken system, let's switch completely. Get it out of your heads people, Norv Turner is not the savior.

But awesome analysis as always from Cosell, he's the best. Great listen.

I agree, I am not sold on Norv Turner or the Coryell either. I still want to see what Caldwell can do before we worry about Norv leaving San Diego and coming here.
