A Fish Called Yanda

Issues With Tackling

1 post in this topic

I looked around and didn't really see any threads on this subject (most of them are just trying to assign blame to a coordinator).

One of our major weaknesses in the past few weeks has been our defense's inability to complete tackles. Numerous times we've had 2 or 3 guys on a RB or WR only for them to slip our grasp and gain yards.

This happened quite a few times with Morris running against us - I saw Kruger fail to wrap him up at least 3 times in the game.

It also happened in the Pittsburgh game when Dwyer came on in a 2nd and 7 situation, ran right into our blockers at the LOS, and then bounced around to the left and ran for a score. Being able to stop him there, then a potential 3rd down stop would have helped us pull out a W.

So my question: why does our defense seem to have an inability to wrap up the offensive player once they make contact? Obviously, with Ed Reed it makes sense since he is injured, but with our fully healthy players not being able to simply make a tackle, it leads to the opponent putting points on the board and us chalking games up in the loss column.
