Joe Flacco and Torrey Smith

And why didn't we take more shots this game. We took a bunch against the Steelers, the #1 rated defense. Against one of the weakest secondarys we only took a couple shots. Again, Cam madness is ridiculous.

Maybe this is a myth. We've been spoon fed this for five years, yet he routinely underthrows receivers or overthrows them which I take as blind heaves. Maybe he isn't the cannon armed QB we all think he is. Just saying.

I mean if you're talking sheer ability to get the ball down field in terms of distance you're nuts if you say otherwise. The ability to hit receivers is up and down. But in terms of distance it's there.

Think back to 2008 and 2009 when our OL was a top 3 - 5 unit, and Clayton was here. Joe made many, many obscenely beautiful throws downfield.

Now look at what has happened since...

Our OL is a disaster, and Torrey's route running isn't much better since he came into the league.

I wouldn't necessarily say it is anyone's fault, but like I've said a million times before, this team only goes as far as our OL takes us.

For example, how tired are we of watching either of these two things:

1. Flacco getting blasted from behind because a certain LT, well, you know...
2. Our OL inevitably plays well several passing plays a game, and on those plays, we sit there and watch Flacco fidget around in the pocket for 5 - 7 seconds, clutching onto the ball, because our speed merchants Torrey and JJ cant get open (nor Boldin).

Deep routes take time to develop. Our OL often does not provide Flacco and Torrey enough time to do their jobs.

What about those rare moments when he does have time though? He stares at coverage like he's picking food at a buffett. SACK FUMBLE!

I'm not excusing Joe (who does often overthrow the long balls) but Torrey is inconsistent with his speed. You can watch closely and you'll see him trying to judge the ball instead of trusting that it will be where it is supposed to be. Sadly, he misjudges and thus slows down or speeds up incorrectly.

The two need to work MORE on trusting the ball and receiver will be in the right place at the right time.

Well, that's what I meant about Torrey's route running. It's not like Flacco is just standing there wanting to get hit. If there is nowhere to throw the ball, there is nowhere to throw the ball

Or scramble, or a checkdown available, or another outlet receiver..........

The last 2 games, especially the Steelers game, it looks like to me that both Torrey and Joe arent just not on the same page, but they kinda dont like each other. When the dont connect they both have that look on their faces that says "why cant you do your job right".

I dont know if its frustration because they both know they can make the plays or if they're both starting to blame each other. If they are starting to blame and lose faith in each other it will only get worse.

Lets hope now that Cam is gone there will be less 65 yard bombs so they can start to get their chemistry correct.

1. depends on the play. Flacco does run it on occassion.
2. you're assuming there is a checkdown. Often there isn't one when we send three deep.
3. See #2 above
