The fact that Cary could make the Pro Bowl and Webb didn't last year is a crime.
It is based off of interceptions...Cary leads the AFC with 4 surprisingly. Webb didn't have that many picks, but no one ever threw a TD on him. A stat not shown on the Pro Bowl Ballot.

Jimmy was always better as a nickel. Last year he was great @ it. With the injury he has, i'd rather keep our 1/2 with a healthy starters and Jimmy as nickel.

Jimmy has the chance to be one of the NFL's best. In fact, he has done very well against everyone but the Texans. And we all played like crap against the Texans.
OMG! , You must have missed the 2011 CHARGER'S game , River's lit him up for 3 TD's, He is terrible!

He aint a bust, people just expected him to be shutdown immediantly. Webb and Jimmy will be deadly next few years.
I disagree. I think Graham is going to surpass J. Smith. I think the next few years are Graham and Webb will be a much more lethal combo. Graham has made some mistakes, no doubt; but, he's shown more intelligence, IMO, than Smith has in almost two seasons. Graham is only going to keep getting better with playing time.

Oh noo... a rookie QB got lit up by an arguably top 10 QB and a handful of good receivers... oh no he's a bust!!! He sucks! HE should never see the field because he had a bad game in his ROOKIE year...

Its not just that game , Its his overall play, No football brain. looks like every game is his first.
I think we are a better defense with anyone in there but Smith.

Jimmy never played nickel... Ever!!! When we went to nickel this year Graham played the slot and Jimmy and Carry were outside. Last year Webb moved into the slot, and Jimmy and Carry were outside. Just because he was our 3rd CB, doesn't mean he played in the slot. You don't put your 6'2 corner with stiff hips in the slot. Your most agile corner goes there. It has been said that nickel is the hardest position to play in the secondary for that reason.
Jimmy's problem was he wasn't tested very much in college, so his effort started to fall off. Working on his technique and film study should improve that, but we will never know if he can't stay healthy. He started playing well down the stretch last year, and was showing improvement this year. I wouldn't try to rush him back, since the guys we are using now are getting the job done.

I think Jimmy should play the nickel until he demonstrates he can get his nugget around to look for the ball.
All of his weaknesses would be exposed more if he played the nickel...

If he doesn't catch on in the next year or so, could he potentially move to safety? He has good size at almost 6' 3 and 210+ pounds

Am I the only fan that thinks that J. Smith could be a bust? We will officially know in the middle or last half of the 2013 season. Coverage-ability concerns and injuries have me leery. BTW, I never wanted to draft him in 2011, but as a true fan, I hope he gets his act together.

I doubt that when Jimmy comes back he will automatically start again. I don't think sitting out those games improved his awareness unless he watch film until his eyes bled and cried. Jimmy will need to get back in playing shape and be worked into the lineup.

And I'm willing to hold off on calling Jimmy a bust-but like you said he has to prove his worth. He will do that as the #3 corner for now.
How could you even consider calling him a bust? Jimmy has played basically one season, since he missed half of last year. Give the guy some time, he has plenty of developing yet to do.

I was thinking why not keep Corey Graham at CB along with Webb as he is only 27 i believe and let Smith move to Safety and learn from Reed. He has size, speed and can be a great ball hawk. He would be able to hide his flaws but still showcase his talent.

No. Bad idea. He has bad hips. He's bad in zone coverage. He's a suspect tackler. All of his flaws would be shown even more at safety, especially since you take away his ability to press.

Already? He's only in his second year. Like you said, we probably won't find out till late 2013, or even till (i believe) his contract year in 2014. I'm willing to give him another year or two considering he's been battling injuries.

I would sooner put Graham at safety before Smith.

Why is that friend ? I just do not think he will ever be a healty CB. But seeing how Reed plays through a lot of injuries i am more then wrong. His health is what concerns me. Usually young me healthy but he has had a string of bad luck.

I don't know, if a cornerback has difficulty covering or cannot cover, he should not even be playing in the NFL. Watch Smith play, a see a lot of robotic movements, and the double move is what he is getting known for not being able to cover. We will wait until next year to decide if he was worth our 2011 1st-round pick.

While it's true some guys are just injury-prone, it's difficult to say with Smith. He's had some rough luck. You need to remember that he came from Colorado, people stopped throwing at him. He has talent. He needs it developed. He needs to watch tape with Webb & Reed. He needs to mature. He's only 24. He still has time. Not many CBs come out of the NCAA like gangbusters.

Most forget that Smith matched up against Green in college and shut him down. I mean, the guy has talent. He's had a year of game experience, maybe not even that. It's too early to call him a bust or injury prone since it's once again his second year. Give the guy a break.

As for Graham, he has good instincts, ball skills, and he can play well in zone. He reminds me of Ed Reed in some ways. He also said he could play safety in the beginning of the year when Ed Reed did his drama of not coming to camp.

I will continue to watch and hope that he recovers and wait for his first full season. I think a full year will be just what he needs to go that extra step.

Which one will take place of one another in nickel packages.Plus, I believe corey may play nickel to help out punt coverage if jimmy comes back this week or the next.

If Jimmy can get back he should be starting opposite of Cary. He might start out as nickel until he can play every snap, but he is clearly a better option than Johnson.

Cary Williams and Corey Graham will start. When Jimmy comes in, Graham will slide over to the nickel. Chris Johnson and Chykie Brown will probably rotate 4th CB duties depending on the situation.

Funny how people are ready to label prospects as busts after such little game experience. Lets see:

People wanted to label that bum leading our team in sacks as a bust.

Some thought Webb was a bust when he struggled for a bit after his first acl tear.

Arthur Jones has become a solid 3 technique guy in our defense.

Before you label these guys busts GIVE THEM SOME TIME!! I play small college ball and its a lot faster. Imagine the difference between college and the big leagues. Not everyone is Von miller or Suh right off the bat.
