FA wise I think the only big name we lose is Cary Williams, and maybe Dickson, and retain most if not all of our FAs. I think we will make no big splashes in FA, I could see us going after one of the veteran DL out there (ex. Justin Bannan, Kevin Vickerson, Corey Williams) but in the end save the cap space for our own guys.
Also as much as I love Ed Reed and would love to see him stay I think he retires, and he should for his own health. I think Birk may come back and will waffle but ultimately retires. Ray I expect to come back yet again.
Draft
1) Tony Jefferson | S | Oklahoma
I have no clue how he is not raved about on these boards more as he plays extremely similar to Ed Reed. He is great at lining up deep at making plays in the pass game as well as the run. He is an aggressive and confident player and sometimes it can get the best of him when you see him watching the quarterback or reading the offense to bait a play, many times it work, but other times it looks like he is guessing. He is not a classic wrap up tackler but he shoots like a missile at players, causing a lot of big hits. Talent wise there is nothing he cannot do, he is a playmaker and has started at Oklahoma since his freshman year.
2) Jesse Williams | NT | Alabama
It is truly disturbing how loaded this draft is with front seven talent on defense. I think we get lucky and get a guy who drops, if you have watched any Alabama games this year you have probably heard a million times how much of a beast he is (the commentators seem to always love him). I tend to agree and he is my favorite NT behind Nix for our defense. He has had some rough games this year, is still very raw and has not made a ton of big plays, making him look more of a 2nd rounder. Once he learns how to extend and lock his arms on blockers consistently he will be a force (he is a lot better at this than John Jenkins atleast who is a big time body leaner). What I like most though is his unselfish style of play and that he is a two gap defender, our system thrives with guys like this. Plus when you look at him he just looks like a bigger Buddy Lee with his pants hiked up with his stout frame. He will offer very little in the pass game but we need depth and strength inside. I just hope he doesn’t explode at the combine and send his stock too far up.
3) Quinton Patton | WR | Louisiana Tech.
Possibly my favorite WR in the draft. There are several reasons to love him, first he is probably the most complete receiver outside of Keenan Allen. He is a smooth athlete, when you watch him he is very fluid out of his breaks and has a wiggle to him that makes guys miss – in this way he is in the mold of a lot of Colts WRs of the past and reminds me of a mix of Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison, and Pierre Garcon (I am sure Caldwell would know what to do with a player like this). His production is through the roof and is the teams go to guy, so he has consistently been beating double teams, while not all of it is against top competition but he has produced extremely well against good talent (ex. He destroyed Terry Hawthorne LINK). I am not comfortable with any of our receivers behind Boldin being able to take over his spot and I think we need to begin searching for that guy opposite Torrey.
4) Brandon Jenkins | DE/OLB | Florida St.
This may be a dream pick, but teams may shy away from him because of his injury. Before his foot injury he was a pass rush terror and possible first rounder. Now I am not sure of his draft value, so we may just have to wait and see here. Reports say he should be ‘fully’ healed by the combine so that will be his proving ground.
4) Jordan Hill | DL | Penn St.
He had an amazing last game against Wisconsin with something around 10 tackles, two sacks and three TFL. I think he is one of the unsung heroes of the Penn St defense this year and one of the most underrated DL in the draft. He is one of those solid but not great players, who can help in all facets of the game. He does not have great size and will probably put up average numbers at the combine but he plays hard and is extremely solid in his lower body.
5) Michael Mauti | LB | Penn St.
Another Penn St. defender who leaves a little to be desired from a size/speed standpoint but more than makes up with it in football intelligence and gritty style of play. He will be a terror on ST and is more than able to fill in on a pinch, he looks like a guy who can take over for the ageless Ayanbedajo. Extremely productive player, who may have limited upside in the NFL.
6) Blaize Foltz | OG | TCU
Underrated blocker who is solid in all aspects of the game. Has good size and I think he could eventually become a starter in the NFL. Very consistent and smart player with a good understanding of the game. He needs to add some strength though if he wants to hold his own with some of the guys in the AFC North.
7) BW Webb | CB | William & Mary
Confident and athletic player at the CB spot. I think his potential lies as a returner on ST if Jacoby Jones should leave. I really like Asa Jackson as the next man up but it always good to have depth, especially with how much the return game has helped us this year.

1st: Jefferson is a beast. I want a NT, OT, or LB early, but I can't argue this at all. Love it. Jefferson, Reid, Elam, Lester, Thomas (Fresno State), & Mathieu are all guys I feel like will/have the potential to be beast safeties.
2nd: I wasn't really sold on Williams initially, to be honest. He's grown on me a bit but I'm still reluctant to take him. Something about him concerns me at NT. Then again, we can probably get him in the 2nd or possibly 3rd depending on his combine so eh, maybe. I'd rather have a NT who can get some pass rush, though. I know that's not the primary job of the NT but still having a Wilfork-type player would be nice.
3rd: I like this pick. I watched a few Louisiana Tech games for their center, and this guy stood out. He's a good WR, I'm just concerned about our depth at the position making us cut some good players and also drafting a guy this high when we have other needs. I think OL, specifically OT needs to be higher here. That's just me, though. Remember: with enough time wide receivers can get separation.
4th: I like Hill. I watched a few Penn State games and he & Mauti impressed me. Still, I'm not sure about taking one so high. Depends on if he is BPA or not. He could be.
5th: Mauti is a good player but I would rather we invest in this spot sooner.
6th & 7th: I know nothing about these two other than not bad positional picks. No other comments.

Oh man! I LOVE CJ Mosley. Really love him. He's a really good player and I would take him in a heart beat to play the MLB here in Baltimore. I feel like he will have to be a 1st round pick because he's a capable pass rusher, though and those typically go higher. But I would take him in the 2nd without hesitation IF he fell that far.I really like it. I think Williams and and Jefferson maybe should be switched, but you never know this early on. I love Patton, and he is kind of unheralded at this point, but I think he may rise. My only complaint would be not addressing LB earlier. I don't know too much about Mauti although I have heard good things about him from a leadership standpoint. One of our biggest needs I think is a sub-package LB who can cover and blitz, and hopefully develop into a 3 down player. I'm not sure if Mauti fits that bill. A guy like CJ Mosley might be a steal in the 2nd round or Kevin Reddick I like a lot too as a mid round pick.
Te'o, Mosley, then Jackson & Ogletree. That's my order for MLBs in the draft. I'm torn between Ogletree & Jackson. I really think all four of those guys will be damn good. Jackson might not declare, though. So, yeah.

I agree with you fully here and was my main annoyance in playing through this mock. I also am a huge fan of CJ Mosley and would prefer him over Ogletree at this point, but I am not sure if I would be willing to give up a first, I dont think he will last to the second. So in that regard I did this mock as a stud S over a stud MLB. But I think next time I will go earlier at MLB, I think there is some good value in the second with Arthur Brown or Gerald Hodges who I both think are great players. Reddick or Bostic I think may be better mid round guys that fit the bill we need that you were describing, as we need guys who can play in coverage and in space. I do love Mauti though, he reminds me of a Zach Thomas or london fletcher type player. However I could see us skipping MLB altogether for yet another year if Lewis returns.
I'm not sure where Williams is going to end up, he destroyed Tennessee's oline but couldn't do much against Texas A&M.

I also have no clue what Jesse Williams draft value is, I have seen anywhere from mid first to third rounder. I do think because he is still rather raw and plays more off of aggression, emotion and passion than technique he is a mid second rounder. I would not take him in the first, mainly because as Grim stated he is limited as a pass rusher/disruptor and ultimately is a two down linemen. As a NT I do have him ranked behind Hankins and Star, I do not understand all the love for John Jenkins, can someone please explain to me what they see in him other than size/athleticism? As I really am trying to like him as his size is beyond intriguing, but I only ever see him make one or two solid plays a game and the rest he is getting pushed back or single blocked.
Also I was thinking of going with DE/OLB in the first what are your thoughts on Dion Jordan? and do you think we only go pass rusher early if Kruger leaves?

I wouldn't mind a pass rusher even if Kruger stays. However, I have seen lots of stuff with Jordan going before us.

We have #55, who is a DPOY player. We know what he brings. He has had a ton of injuries this year. Perhaps he was due. I know people will say that it is proof he is mortal, getting old, whatever. Many will say how will he recover from these injuries. It's true that he hasn't played like he normally does, but keep in mind one thing: most players would be on the couch rather than the football field after suffering an Achilles tear, even a partial one. Now he has a biceps tear or strain, whatever you want to call it. He's had a rough year. But regardless, I am optimistic and feel he will return to form. I also like Upshaw, and believe he can be developed into a pass rusher. We also have McAdoo, whom most forget who also had an Achilles tear, later than Suggs, but who is still out for the season. We also have Kruger, who is a free agent who can possibly be re-signed.
Regardless of what happens with Kruger, we need to draft a RUSH linebacker, a specialist. As this season has showed us, you can never have enough. But I give you the examples of these player we have to make a point: we don't need one early. With that said, we can take a guy like Brandon Jenkins (who may be healed and shoot up boards) if injured, or we can go deep and get a guy late in the draft. Personally, I really like Aaron Donald out of Pittsburgh (if he declares), Dan Giordano from Cincinnati, & Nathan WIlliams out of Ohio State. I watched Ohio State games for Hankins, and I am telling you Williams impressed me. We can probably get these guys in the 4th-5th rounds realistically. I would rather take a pass rusher in these rounds than in the 1st or 2nd. We have too many needs to fill and have gone to that position a lot lately.
We need: OL, ROLB, DL, LB, S, CB, TE.
I'd rather we do something like this:
1st round: CJ Mosley, LB, Alabama. Move him to ILB to take over for Ray when needed. He has the instincts & coverage ability and he can stop the run. I really like him a lot. If not him, then take a guy like Louis Nix from Notre Dame if he declares. If we get CJ Mosley, we can always move him to OLB if we have to do it as a pass rusher, since he has proven he can do it. Essentially what I am saying is, get a LB or a NT in the 1st round.
2nd round: Oday Aboushi, OT, Virgina. Most people will disagree with me here. In fact, I could be wrong. This draft has a lot of OL talent, honestly. There are many potential LTs in this draft, from Matthews, Joeckel, Lewan, Hurst (if he declares), XAVIER NIXON (I like him if not Aboushi), Faulk (if he declares), & Williams. Someone will be there, and I feel like we will get someone here in the 2nd. I'd rather draft a LT than a LG or RT or many reasons. First and foremost, I'd rather put Oher where he did his best at RT. Move KO to LG. A benefit to RT for Oher is less money during negotiations. Also, I think Aboushi is a legit pass protector.
3rd round: Robert Lester, S, Alabama. I listed Lester, but really ANY safety. I guarantee you there will be a very good safety right here at the sweet spot. First of all, safeties don't go high. Second of all, there are quite a bit of safeties in this draft. Third of all, most of the safeties in this draft are all very comparable--nobody really stands out above all others at this point. I expect the combine to change that. I think Vaccaro has the best chance of going the highest of them all, though. Jefferson, Reid, McDonald, Lester, Rambo, & Phillip Thomas from Fresno State will all go somewhere between rounds 1-4. We can get one of these guys here. I doubt they are all gone before our 4th round pick. Elam will probably go high. He is a damn good player. I expect us to have our choice from the aforementioned list. People also need to remember Lester was a very good player last year, one of whom most suspected would be a 1st round pick this year. Has not played as well as last.
4th round: Jordan Hill, DT, Penn State. I like Hill better than Still. I did last year and still do. I agree with you that he has a lot of potential. Personally, I think he has a good motor and he is a dirty player. I don't mean that in a negative way. I mean he will get in the mud and fight. He's scrappy and I like his attitude. Not sure where he goes, because he could shoot up draft boards but I see him underrated from a negative Penn State program. So, yeah, I think we got a chance here in the 4th. We could put him at DE, or possibly NT. I personally think he can do both but I've read articles suggesting he's primarily a 3-4 DE or a 4-3 DT so I'm not sure. But regardless, if he is a 3-4 DE, I'd rather move Ngata to NT & have Arthur Jones at DE with this guy. I think that would really help our DL big time.
4th round compensatory pick: Brandon Jenkins, OLB, FSU. He has an injury, and I think that drops his stock significantly. I don't think he can recover by April to be trusted earlier than a 4th or even a 5th. Arthur Jones was a high pick then hurt his stock with injury, and he took some time but he looks good. I think he will provide a good pass rush and will be a good project and may turn into a Kruger-type player.
I won't keep going because I'm tired, but I think this would work well. If we improve our OL, it will also help our defense because we will be on the field less. If we improve the DL, it helps our LBs. We need LBs to cover these athletic tight ends. We also need tight-ends, mainly because we have no idea what happens with our RFAs Dickson & Pitta and it would be foolish to enter 2014 with one starting tight-end with how the game has changed.
Welcome to the Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens, Matt Elam, #32nd overall, 1st round pick!
Welcome to the Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens, Arthur Brown #56th overall, 2nd round pick!
Welcome to the Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens, Brandon Williams, #94th overall, 3rd round pick!

I love this draft - however I am slowly moving against drafting a LT to move Oher yet again. I feel he is a very capable LT, as is Osemele at RT, however I do think Oboushi could play LG. I think the biggest thing our offense could benefited from (other than a removal of Cam) is stability on the offensive line.
I don't like Jefferson. I would rather have a DB or an elite pass rusher. The rest of the draft is good though
What is not to like about Jefferson, great production, great athlete, comes from a pro scheme? can you say more?
