Still a "W"

31 posts in this topic

Everytime we actually do win - the aftergame comments always are - it was't pretty , but at least we still got the " W ".
I love this team so much, they break my heart every week - by going to the wire. I do believe we are lucky to have the record that we have this year.
Yesterday was inexcusable, and of course, we did not get the W.

Play like this is not going to get Ray another ring.

agree, inconsistent offense + predictable offense/play-calling + not utilizing talent + stubborn OC + HC who's good at making excuses = will make Ravens fans have heart attacks every week, lol.

Getting rings is hard. So many of the NFL Greats have left the league without rings. At least Lewis has one. He'll be fine. But the year ain't over yet.

I feel bad for Reed as he is coming close to the end of the line and has no ring at all.
[/quote]

At least he'll get a nice consolidation prize. A full size bust in Canton. But then again, the year ain't over yet.

Depending on which Raven team shows up on Sunday - the rest of the year could be tough.

One of the national broadcasters was saying " which team is most likely to go one and done in the post season? The Baltimore Ravens. I almost threw something at the tv - but was he wrong?

Not really that simple. He played out of his mind for close to 9 years before his body started failing him. He suits up everyday with a nerve impingement in his neck and now a torn labrum in his shoulder and you have the audacity to tell him to "step his game up"?

I don't see it as audacity.

We know what Ed Reed is capable of -- we also know his limitations. Every time we think Ed can't do something, he proves everyone wrong; that INT yesterday was proof-positive of his resilience.

Besides, physical ailments aside, there's been plenty of times where Ed has made stupid mental mistakes in coverage -- the man isn't absolved of blame, no matter how much we love him.

Yeah I do because he is also the same guy that says he doesn't get respect and deserves more money and flip flops with retirement every year.

He is a liability in his current state. I used to be a huge Ed Reed fan until he started wincing and whining. He's a hall of famer but if he wants a ring, he needs to give 100% or get on the bench.

That has nothing to do with him stepping his game up, he baited Batch into thinking Miller was open at the back of the endzone. A bait that he throws out multiple times a week, Batch was just dumb enough to think he could get it by Reed. It wasn't resilient at all, it's what he's been doing since day 1, and continues to do with a torn labrum and a nerve impingement.

Is Reed the sickening game changer he used to be? No, and his neck has made him cautious to the point of not being able to do what he used to. He's always blown assignments, we just had cover corners who could actually cover (outside of Webb) before so Reed could do what he wanted. Of course he deserves his share of the blame for miscues and not altering his game more to compensate for the extremely average CB play since 2008.

But to simply say "if he wants a ring so bad step your game up" is ridiculous. Nothing has changed with Reed except his body is failing him, like all aging HOF'ers.

I think we are getting to the point where it is more about getting to the Super Bowl. It has been over 10 years and we have been so close. Our record is not bad, but the reality is that this team is probably going on the road and we play shakey. Could we pull some upsets, yes, but to pull off multiple ones on the road to get to the Super Bowl, I don't have confidence in that right now. I just thought our offense was going to be more special this year, and it is not.

i think REEEEEEED is getting real close to that ring. I've said it before and i'll say it again, we have all the talent we need. we have the record. hell, the giants lost 7 games last year, but those 4 games in the postseason are the ones that really counted. also, how dare you say that #20 has to 'step his game up'. he's one of the 6 or 7 people who actually showed up last night.

On a night we could have laid the Steelers to rest, we didn't get the job done. Our defense allowed a 3rd string QB to march up and down the field at will. If we can't stop a 3rd string QB from leading his team to 23 points in our house, there is no way we will be able to contain RG3 in his house on Sunday. Our offense will have to score at least 30 points to beat the Skins. Our best chance of winning a game will be the last game of the season in Cincy and it won't be easy. For a who;e variety of reasons, this team is not nearly as good as its record. As one sports commentator who follows our team put it, our team is a conundrum --- a real head scratcher. We will be lucky to even make the playoffs now as a wild card entry. Next year will be a rebuilding year. A 10-6 final record is a very real possibility now if we are fortunate enough to win one of our last five games, including the inexcusable loss to Pittsburgh. Of the five QBs we will have faced in our last five games, Charlie Batch is the least talented and he out-performed Joe Flacco. It does not bode well for the rest of the season. If we are fortunate enough to win one more game this year so our final record is 10-6, it is instructive to remember that the difference between a 10-6 team and a 6-10 team is a very fine line.

But, that's why they play the games. Prognostication is fine for 6 days of the week; for that 7th, none of this discussion matters because the outcome is decided by the players, not by what we've been conditioned to believe or what we observe.

Not really. The Redskins only put up 17 tonight on a bad Giants defense (imo). RG3 had what many of you around here would call a "Joe Flacco-like" passing game tonight. 13 of 21 for 163 yards and a TD. He also added in 5 rushes for 72 yards, and they still only scored 17 on that defense. Plus RG3 had a fumble that literally bounced right into Josh Morgan's hands, complete luck.

So based on the last game played, the Ravens should just not show up for the remaining games as it is hopeless?

It really depends on who they end up playing. If they play a team that Flacco will have to keep up with in points... then no, they'll lose. If they run into a one dimensional team, or a weak team that somehow got lucky(like the chiefs last year)... then they'll probably win a game.

But let's face it... Peyton Manning beat much better Baltimore defenses handily, among a couple games he probably should have lost. And that was without a defense. Now he's got a defense with a great pass rush(Flacco makes any opposing pass rush look even better)... but he's got plenty of weapons and has been playing at Mile High all year so he won't even need to get "conditioned" for the outdoor playoff weather. The Ravens are not beating the Broncos if Peyton Manning is healthy. Not in 2 weeks, and not in the playoffs.

If the Patriots or Texans can eliminate the Broncos, the Ravens have a fair shot. But the offense will have to do something we've been waiting for them to do since.... the Super Bowl year. To score consistently, and definitely not turn the ball over.

You said it. I didn't but it does seem our team has lost its competitive edge. Squeaking out victories against a wounded Pittsburgh team and a so-so San Diego club and then losing to a third string QB will not feed the bull dog. Realistically, I think we have an outside chance of winning one more game. If we're lucky, maybe two. Then you Coach Harbaugh fans can proudly crow that he's taken us to the playoffs every year since he's been here. Or was it the other way around? Did the team really take him to the playoffs? Besides, if success is defined by making it to the playoffs 5 years in a row, the Ravens are very successful. However, 37.5% of the NFL.teams make the playoffs every year. As you can tell, I'm just not that optimistic that we will get much better based on our recent past performance but I'm not the one who has anything to prove. I cannot stand the Pittsburgh Steelers but I will say this. There is nothing more dangerous than a wounded animal. They played like one, We didn't.

So how do ya get oot of bed in the morning?

You throwing Harbaugh under the bus is sickening.

You seem to be a glass is empty mentality. If it's so bad, why come here? Why do we need to hear how bad you think it is at every possible turn?
Just because you want it to be over, doesn't make it so. Suppositions don't make truth. Listening to your doom and gloom game in, game out, win or lose, is just hilarious, and it really makes my day. According to you the Ravens were going to be 3-9, not the other way around. Despite your prophecy of the end being near, they continue to win. They have beaten some very good teams. They have lost to really good teams. (Except the Eagles, but that was under strange circumstances)
No team that wins the SB has an asterix beside their name with "didn't blow every team out of the water and only squeaked by some of them, so doesn't deserve this". But every team that wins has had their share. The Ravens are no different.

I get out of bed thinking of the positives about my day. I look for the best in a bad situation, and I don't try to find the negative in every single situation I face.

I get the image of you not getting out of bed, because you think you're probably going to slip and fall, and it will get infected, and you won't make it, so why bother even getting out of bed? Why? Because its the same attitude you post with. Every. Single. Post.

I never said Flacco would rush for 72 yards, but running the ball doesn't always make up for bad passing, sorry. Key example: Vick. You guys would've crucified Flacco like you always do if he would've passed for only 160 yards.

And yes, a BAD defense. My best friend is a Giants fan, so i normally watch all their games too. Yes they have a pass rusher in Jason Pierre-Paul. But Justin Tuck hasn't been that good since he had 11.5 sacks in 2010, and Osi is alright against the pass, but he can't stop the run to save his life. They have no LB's except for Michael Boley, and their best player in the secondary is Corey Webster, and I wouldn't consider him "good".
