Harbaugh and Challenges

21 posts in this topic

It was a stupid challenge, he just admitted he made a bad decision in his presser.

By the same token, they called Flacco down later in the game when he was more upright than Batch and actually completed the ball.

It's the staff he has up in the booth. Though Harbaugh ultimately throws the flag, it's up to his guys to make the call.

Keep in mind, they don't see the same replays we see on TV.

Harbaugh is normally good for three or four absolutely mental challenges every year. The way I look at it, he's improving.

The guys upstairs should have the same views shouldn't they?

The Press Box has the TV broadcast on the monitors but the coaches' boxes do not -- the reason is likely because the TV presentation would give away strategy and other observations, giving the coaches on both sides an unfair advantage (and potential bias).

i'm pretty sure harbaugh is one of the most successful challengers in the league. just this one was so exaggerated because how it affected the outcome of the game. this loss goes far beyond that challenge though. we sucked our tail off tonight.

Why does he suck at them?
Beacuse he is a horrible coach. He doesnt even know enough to call plays. Hes a figure head and a hollow coach. Adds no value to the organization, other then his one liner pressers that never actualy say anything.

It was a horrible decision on his part, W.T.H ? ??? He usually does pretty well with them. But it wasn't the only bonehead decision by the coaching staff tonight. And they came back and bit us. Joe was not good. He hasn't looked particularly good in a long long time. Our run defense definitely let us down AGAIN tonight. And our O-line is no match for the Steelers O line, what?? Said but true. They gave that old fart all teh time in the world to throw. On many occasions Joe had little time. It was a total beat down. Many areas of the game just plain and simple sucked tonight!!

I can understand if the Ravens were on the road, but at home? The booth has access to every angle we see on TV and more at a snap of their fingers. Plus they have that big jumbotron which is controlled by the home team.

Not quite. The angles we see at home come from cameras that are property of CBS.

Though the jumbotron is controlled by the home team, again, they only have access to the angles made available to them.

Pretty awful reason to throw a challenge flag, but at least we don't have him illegally throwing flags against the Texans and costing us games. Plus, he doesn't really see what we see at home. He just kind of goes with what he saw.

Also, he isn't a terrible head coach. If you can get a team to the playoffs 4 years in a row, that's saying something.

And yet no one thought to challenge that.....baffling and frustrating to say the least.

Don't think they could challenge this play because it had been blown dead. But blowing the whistle was total BS. Joe wasn't being held "in the grasp", he was falling while being tackled and made a great throw. How many times has worthlessburger been hailed for making a throw like that.

Can't challenge that, it's a "judgement call", the refs blew the whistle too early, regardless

Who's call was that? Not even the crowd thought it was a fumble. The first replay shown was clear enough that it wasn't a fumble. That lost timeout was crucial in the end. Terrible game management by Harbaugh.

Yeah a real head scratcher, for being a hands off coach, you think he would be able to manage challenges and timeouts better

yup...i think this yet again shows that john isnt a great situational coach.
I don't even know what he does do well. The special teams is pretty good but so far all he has done is stop a "mutiny" which he brought on by having intense practice right after returning from the bye. And back one of the worst offensive coordintor's of all time.
