This being said, do you think this is a publicity stunt or a genuine gesture for him? Or is he just trying to beef up security around himself?

I doubt you guys have followed him as well as we have, but go look at him from a personal level from here back to 2004. He really was a you know what back then, getting in trouble with the law and what not. But since 09-10 or so, he's been a much nicer character.

I'm not bashing the guy right now. I was looking for opinions in the matter. I will say thanks for the donation because it helps our city. I also think its mere pennies to him to try to build his character from what it once was/is. It's a stepping stone to what people can look up to as a super bowl winning quarterback.

When we were visiting the inlaws up in Deep Creek MD, we were watching the "local" news which was Pittsburgh ( yeah I know )
They had a story about a little league football team that earned their way into the playoffs. The problem was they could not afford to fly every one out to where the game was.
Well Ben got word of this and chartered a plane for them, as well as got them all new uniforms and equipment and made a personal appearance to get them riled up before they left.
On the field I pretty much hate the guy. Off the field, he is alright with me.

It's really not about the uniform with him. I respect most Steelers players, even if I hate their team. Even Hines Ward, probably the most hated Steeler around these parts, I still don't hate him as a human being. I've always disliked Roethlisburger for his character, and would continue to do so no matter what team he was on. That being said, seems like he's doing a good thing with this, and if it's true that he's improved himself so much over the past few years, then props to him for it. As you say, you guys would know more about it than we would.
