Jason Babin Released, Claimed by Jaguars

78 posts in this topic

Yep it's official, the Jaguars have claimed Jason Babin. Must say, that is not a bad move by them especially if he is still the same player who got 18 sacks last year. This is now one less need the Jaguars have to worry about in the off-season. Plus it seems Jacksonville is on the winning side of things with Chad Henne.

Jags were 2nd in the waiver pecking order. So he didn't have to travel down the list very far.

Surprised the Jags put in a claim for what would be a 33 y.o pass rusher. Don't know how this move helps them.

This.. Now they're stuck with his contract and like you said a 33 year old pass rusher who can't do anything else..

Babin could excel as a situational player but a full time player.. Na

Jaguars had the cap room to sign him and what's wrong with a pass rusher who can't do anything else? You need a pass rusher in this league and the Jaguars have nobody who can get to the quarterback. In their division of Luck and Schaub they needed someone like him and the way they have been playing, if they had Babin for the Texans game they may have won.

Lol poor Babin. I don't get the move for the Jags. It's not like they're contending or anything, just a waste of money I feel like.

Imagine getting that call from your agent...

Agent: Hey, Jason. It turns out that a team did claim you on waivers.
Jason: Really? Which team?
Agent: You sure you want to know?
Jason: Yes...
Agent: The Jaguars
Jason: ....

CONFIRMED: The Jacksonville Jaguars are laying the groundwork for their dynasty once they move to Los Angeles for the 2014-15 NFL Season. All they need now is for some mediocre back-up QB to admit they're "Dream Team"; because, obviously, that has worked well in the past... :P

Under CBA rules Babin can declare himself an FA at the end of the season which I bet will happen.
Your right, but he can't do that until AFTER the 2013 Season, per the CBA.
Article 29, Section 1(a) of the CBA explains that vested veterans (i.e., players with four or more years of service) who are claimed on waivers after the trading deadline “shall have the right to declare himself an Unrestricted Free Agent . . . at the end of the League Year following the League Year in which he is waived and awarded.”
Jones filled an actual need and was a good fit schematically. Not true with Babin.
I agree....I'm just saying...people were completely adverse to picking up Jacoby when it was brought up. Now it's stars and bars for the young man. Moot point now anyway. The Jags got'em but I heard some talk on NFL Network he does nothing outside of lining up wide in the Wide-9. Looks like the talk of zero run support was right too.

Redskins, Browns, Chargers, Raiders, Dolphins, and Bills (as I predicted) all placed a claim on Babin also.
Hey, where do you go to see those types of claims? Just wondering for future reference. Thanks!

all it takes is one team, or one shot. ..... look at Alex smith before the Benching, and before Harbaugh got there...... being labled as a bust and a no good. harbs came in and really exploited his talent and they had a great year last year. Smith looked like the man they were hoping he'd be from the get go but failed to do UNTIL the right people got there.
