Bazooka Joe

David Reed is back

Didn't we just activate Anthony Levine? I thought there was an article about him not ordering food because he got activated from PS. And I think I remember seeing him in on punt coverage on a play too.

With Jacoby such a key guy on offense Reed can spell him as a returner. Imagine the speed we haave at WR now.

I don't want him back, sorry. He's never done anything as a WR and we have Jacoby... unless he's hurt worse than we know?

Anywho, he's a Raven, and I'll be cheering for him, assuming he's active.

Levine with the mystery injury to IR FTW.

Reed is screwed with the numbers game and if we activate him on gamedays we'll have to deactivate LaQuan. Harbaugh loves Reed for some inexplicable reason though so thats probably what will happen.

I'd rather have Jacoby returning.

I think this is depth, because Jacoby got real close to being injured.

Huh. Well, they see him in practice so I will give him a chance but going off of history and production I like JJ better than Reed. Perhaps they will use them both to keep them fresh and in different situations. It would be nice having Reed & JJ in the endzone or back to take punts and stuff. Imagine them both returning the ball. It could be a dynamic return.

Then again, maybe that's too fantastical, lol. We'll probably see some reverses from David Reed.

Mabye he will take over punt return duties, instead of having Doss back there sometimes...

Or mabye Jacoby hurt his knee a little more than we thought.... idk

I hope not. Doss' hands are money. Reed's are suspect.

I don't think this has anything to do with Jacoby's knee, to be honest. I've been hearing for weeks about how Reed was getting close to recovery, and that there was essentially a roster spot waiting for him when healthy.

Honestly I dont see how any body can disagree that a healthy / focus Reed that wont fumble the ball along with Jacoby Jones could make up to be the most dangerous kick/punt returners in the league.

LaQuan is stout on ST, I don't understand this move at all.
[/quote]

Laquan will still be able to play on ST while David Reed most likely will see time as a punt/kicker returner.

Hopefully he left his fumblitus behind him because he will be ran out of town if he fumbles and its a game changer.

We'll see what he brings to the table. Yes, he was a fumble machine last year and his fumbles (not to mention that ridiculous taunting penalty) were the big reason we lost to Seattle last year, but he did have some electric returns.

It's cool that he's healthy and all, not a big fan of the move. Levine has been playing great on ST, and we already have a pro bowl bound returner.

Levine was in a tricky spot. He was the gunner on the punt team. Before injury, David Reed was also a gunner. They may have also liked what they saw out of Asa Jackson on ST yesterday, forcing Levine out.

Is him being back a good thing. He was on the sideline for a reason before. Does anybody know what jacoby's state is ? We need him big time the next 3 games.

Agreed and honestly, I forgot all about him. He better bring his A++++++ game because JJ's been lighting it up and other than a drop or two by the receivers yesterday(i know. JJ had a big one), they've been playing great. Even Doss is proving himself.

Well I think it has every thing to do with Jacoby.
Meaning, every one about pooped their pants when he got hurt on sunday. There really is not a decent and prudent replacement. David Reed is a decent replacement IN CASE Jacoby gets hurt.

Why do people subject themselves to the same things over and over again with different players? Now everyone wants to be done on Reed because he had a tough 3 game stretch last year. Then as soon as the guy is plugged in as a WR and helps or has a big game changing return, everyone will love him again.

I know it's a what have you done lately game, but for people to act as if this guy is only around because he was drafted or because Harbs has some kind of man crush on him is foolish. He's still on this team because the Ravens still see value in him. That same value that everyone will flock to this board and praise him for the second he has a good game.

The same value they saw in Jacoby, but 80% of this board bashed the FA pickup. The same value they saw in Ellerbe, that lead to a 2nd round tender, which 90% of this board bashed. The same value they saw in Harewood, which most people just wanted to see the guy cut after only 2 years. The same value they saw in young guys like Kruger, Jones, McClellan, Upshaw and Tyson, which had some people questioning Ozzie's draft ability and everyone doubting the D as a whole.

The Ravens have proven to be right in showing confidence in these guys to provide their value to this team, despite how much fans hated it. Will D. Reed come back be another really good young player? Could be, but what's the point in bashing the guy or the move, when the Ravens have proven over and over again that they make great decisions on things like this.

I'm not sure why Reeds back unless Jacoby jones will see an expanded role on offense now. Jacoby has really played great on Special Teams and I never had a problem Thompson returns kicks either. I would rather Thompson or L.Williams added on rather than Reed because I know they could also be put on field for offense...

I think Jacoby could be only the punt returnees with Reed as KR. All Reed has to do is catch it and take the knee.

They must see something in Reed to keep him. Looks like our WR corp is set for the next several seasons:

Boldin
Smith
Jones
Doss
Thompson
Streeter
LQW
Reed

That would be dumb as hell, considering JJ scores TDs! There is absolutely NO reason for Reed to be activated. None!

Maybe the battle is between Deonte Thompson or David Reed, unfortunately it seems someone has to go if Ray Lewis is reactivated.

It would be even more stupid to use your 3rd WR as both a KR and PR. Injuries. JJ can also run punts for TDs.

We'll see what happens.

Jacoby should do ALL returns.. He has TD's from both KR and PR so there's no reason to take him off either. Reed isn't even that good of a returner and he has a serious issue of getting the ball jarred loose when he get's hit. Sorry he should've been cut after those 2 fumbled KR that single handily lost us that game in Seattle last year. We gave him another chance after the 1st fumble.. if you respond to that challenge by putting the ball on the turf again you shouldn't be returning kicks in the NFL. Even if you only get out to the 20 he should've had a death grip on that ball and he was just as careless as his previous return.

Not a good returner? The guy averaged like 29.5 yards per return over his 1st 2 seasons in the NFL, that's the BEST!!!, in the NFL over that period. Don't like Reed because of his fumbles, cool, but to act as if the guy is talentless is crazy. You say he shouldn't be returning kicks in the NFL because of his 2 fumbles, you do realize that the very first time he returned a Kick after that game should have been a TD, if not for his ACL giving out?

That is the guy the Ravens believe they are getting back. This guy got the job done when the Return unit wasn't playing as well as they are now. I take nothing away from Jacoby, he's a bad man and should continue to return, but he wasn't touched on either TD return. Not because of his speed but because of great blocking.

Teams are gonna start kicking away from Jacoby with angle KOs. Putting Reed back there with him could put even more pressure on teams in the return game.

With all his injury problems, and willingness to be unsafe with ball... I'd rather have Ed Reed returning kicks than David Reed being on this team.

As others have said... this makes no sense. You telling me we couldn't use another corner or lineman for that roster spot over a kick returner who isn't even good at that?

I believe Reed will be used in KR because teams will either kick away from JJ (JF if you're Billick lol) or ground it towards the KR making it very difficult to do anything with it. Seems to me that Harbaugh is trying different avenues to keep our ST unit performing well. I believe he was a great gunner as well.

JJ still makes great sense on PRs. Less likely for punters to punt away from him.

Anyways that's what I could think of for having him back.

If that's what you saw, fine. But I saw the return game improve because Jacoby knows how to set-up blocks. And he's decisive. He isn't going back and forth across the field trying to shake and bake every single defender. Oh, and this thing called game-speed. Jacoby has it.

Reed really didn't show me anything impressive.

And even if he's talented... he's still SOLELY a kick returner. And I'd say that's a waste of a roster spot. Has anyone this season thought "man... the Ravens really need a kick returner?" No! The special teams is playing great. And if you're worried about Jacoby getting hurt... then I guess we should just play nobody! And even if he is hurt... I have plenty of faith there are other guys already on the roster that deserve a chance over David Reed.
