Ravens0012

Vs. Giants

40 posts in this topic

This may be a tough game for the team this upcoming weekend, but i feel that as long as we keep improving as a team and our offense excels to even greater heights, i believe that they can pull this one off.

The offense approach this week will probably be a little different then what we saw last week. The Giants have a much better defense then the Texans did. I believe we will use Heap to block much more this week with the pass rush for the Giants. Our line has done excellent this year (except for the penalties) so i believe we will be able to give Flacco some time in the pocket to find the open receivers and also should be able to give us some holes for the run game.

Turnovers will be key to victory. we need to force manning into some bad decisions and capitalize off them. this will also be a test for our run defense. jacobs and ward are having a terrific season. if we shut down the run early we should be able to put some extra pressure on manning.

there are two major things i believe we need to improve on before we go into this game. 1. making tackles and 2. lower then penalties. if we dont improve on these we will be in for a very rough game. We dont make tackles on the first hit and let jacobs free then he will be even harder to bring down in the open field. we back ourselves up on offense with penalties it will be much tougher to get a first down on third and long against a pass rush team.

we improve on those things and we continue playing as a team then i believe we pull this off and after that their should be no stopping us.

GO RAVENS!!!

The Browns gave us the recipie to beat the Giants, get points on the board early, shut down the run, pressure Manning, and through pressure capitalize on the mistakes we force him into. Another key is doing to Plaxico Burress what we did to Andre Johnson last week (and what we did to Braylon, TJ, Ocho Cinco in previous games) double team him, or force him to the outside. Our defense is definantly better than the Browns, so what we need is for Joe to make some good decisions and move the ball downfield to get some points early. Its been 27 games since we've allowed a 100 yard rusher, don't expect Brandon Jacobs to be the first.

Our defense is on the right page. Eli hasn't played against many defenses like ours so I think we can get him out of his rhythm and we need to do that early. We have to make almost no mistakes on defense. We also need to stop Brandon Jacobs. A 6'4 264 pound powerback is really goin to be hard to stop but we have to. And I think we can. Let's not forget the Giants defense. Their defense isn't the worst in the league. It isn't nearly the worst in the league. They flourish with their pass rush so we need to protect Joe Flacco like we have been doing the past 4 weeks. If our defense can play almost mistake free and our OL get Flacco time in the pocket I see us winning this game.

we cant just blankey burress all the time.. The giants offense is capable of winning without burress so yes we need to watch for burress but also tommer and smith... Boss has been getting more catches lately especially in the end zone and they like to throw the out pass to burress in the endzone alot so thats when we needs to have him double covered.. jacobs is a beast but i think our front will hold up... Todd heap needs to get touches like last game but also have him block too because the giants d line is extreamly physical and their a sack oriented team.. The giants secondary is not the greatest and can be picked up if our o line can hold their pass rush back

In order for the Ravens to pull out a win, the DL has to get pressure on eli, the OL has to give flax adequate time to go through his reads and they need to establish the run early. Not to mention stop their awesome running attack... but thats a given

On defense we need to focus on their running game. Brandon Jacobs sucked vs AFC North defenses. The Bengals shut him down (2 yards per carry), the Steelers shut him down (2 yards per carry) and the Browns allowed only 65 rushing yards. I would be shocked if we allowed him to average over 2 yards per carry. He struggles against tough defenses.

On offense we need to shut down Justin Tuck. Anderson vs Tuck will be a critical matchup. Also Grubbs needs to watch out because on passing downs Tuck moves back inside. If we can keep those 2 guys in check we should win this game.

The Giants have the #1 rush offense and #7 rush defense
The Ravens have the #3 rush offense and #1 rush defense

It needs to be mentioned that the difference between 1st and 3rd in rushing offense is 18 yards.

Then it becomes a question of "can the Giants contain the Ravens 3 headed monster at RB?" and I don't think they can.

i think in those games who win in the trenches, win the game.

this will be a must the coach win the game for us, the mental part of our coaches will be the determinant factor in the outing.

- we need to dominate in the line of scrimmage.

- the attraction plays kills the giants defense.

- be aware of the deep balls.

- dont let eli get on rhym with his receivers.

- giants running game is slow, like our, so they will have a though game running the ball over us.

the part that most scared me is that:

- edward reed been inexistent in our passing def.

- our CB get burned a lot when 1 on 1 match ups.

- we have zero pressure on opposing QB. the more time you give eli, the bigger risk of a big play from peyton little brother.

- be physical on the beginning, so let them know they will have to fight to win this. right now we're not.

i hope for the first time this year our secondary step up and set the tone for the game, our LBs did it, now is the secondary turn.

what most scared me is if:

peyton give some instruction to eli on how to beat us, and you know they're brother.

tom will force his players to play like if this game is the 26 jan 2000.

i know this could be a non show defenses game, so let's get focused on stop the pass.

I agree with almost everything you said, except I think our tackling is alright. Yes our team needs to cut back on those penalties too.

I know we're the underdogs, but I think if anyone is built to beat the Giants, it is us. Here's why...

When you compare our strengths and weaknesses, we match up very well. The key ingredient for success for the Giants is their rushing attack. Not Eli, not Plaxico, but the ground game is what makes NYG such a good offense. However, as we all know, this weekend they are going up against the best run stuffing team in the NFL. As much as I like Jacobs, we have shut down better backs than him before, and he'll be no exception. This will force them to throw more...say what you like about our secondary, but when we force teams to be one dimensional, that's when we are at our best at forcing turnovers.
On the flip side of the coin, they are a great pass rushing team, but they can be run on. Even with Flacco's heroics of late, this is still a run first team. The new passing attack just makes our ground game that much better. And that will be the key if we want to win- we must run early and often. Keep their offense off the field, wear down their DL, and keep our defense fresh.
Forget the hype...the NYG may be the real deal, but we are going to test their chins Sunday.

The end result will be the same as the 2000 Super Bowl, with Baltimore on top:
Baltimore- 27
NYG- 20

This game is going to be decided on big plays and turnovers.

To win:
Continue on what has been built in the last four games and prove it works on top defenses
Get pressure on Eli and bring out bad decisions (easiest way for this to happen is get an early 2 score lead and let Rex get creative)
Keep the long ball out of the picture

To lose:
Turnover the ball
Get burned in secondary

The secondary is what I am worrying about right now. We give up way too many plays in the secondary. In order to be successful, we have to get to Manning early and often. Throw him off balance and force him to throw the check downs where Ray Ray and the rest of our dominant front 7 can get to him. Rolle gave up a lot of plays in the last game, I pray it was just because he was a little rusty, but it's going to be a tough matchup and I'm not going to predict a score because I think it will be really close. Probably will come down to the final minutes of the game.

I agree on most of what everyone is saying but I believe the Offensive Line controls our destiny in this game. If they show up its a guaranteed win! We have the formula to beat the New York Giants. During that eagles game when the Giants stopped them short on 4th and 1 I KNOW Leron Lorenz or Willis would have gotten that 1 yard and thats the difference. Listen I know everyone is doubting us and even some Ravens fans aren't so sure about this, but give your team some credit. They are just as worried as we are! Trust me I live in Connecticut thats all I hear about.

Im expecting a hard fought game on both sides with a field goal deciding this game

24-27 Baltimore :)

I am worried about the giant's offensive line. If anyone remembers last years preseason, their starting offensive line ran well on our starting defensive line. I know that it was preseason and it was more than one year ago, but our personnel isn't that different. Haloti has gotten better but pryce isn't quite as dominate. If we can't stop the run, we won't win this football game.

Brandon Jacobs is a different kind of beast. If we aren't able to get penetration he will run people over. I don't trust our secondary to help in run support with a back that big (Ed reed (shoulder), Jim leonard (5'8"), Fabian and Samari (the two of them put together dont weigh much more than jacobs)). I have a ton of faith in this team and our current direction, but the New York Giants attack our strengths very well.

I think you are worrying about the wrong things. They don't need the secondary to help with run support. They are only a disadvantage when it comes to pass coverage. We can't get the pressure we need on pass plays because the linebackers have to hang back more. On the few big run plays we've given up the runner was gang tackled by linebackers after busting out.

The one thing the D has always taken pride on is run defense, I can't see them getting beat down early and then giving up. They may get beat early but the d will adapt and smother it.

GMEN fan here- just wanted to say good luck when you come to town this weekend. I am a season ticket holder-will be at the game. The Ravens have impressed me. You guys are playing real well with a young QB.

Couple thoughts-first-I too believe we are beatable....just like I believed last years playoff teams were beatable and we proved that. We need to bring our A game, or like the Browns game, we'll get beat. That said-you mention Jacobs being stopped by the AFC North...while that may be true, lets not forget Derrick Ward who had 80 in that Bengals game and 101 in the Cleveland game to pick up for Brandon. In Pittsburgh they combined for 83 yards and that is the worst all season. I think this game will be like...13-10, 17-14...something like that with one of teh defenses probably scoring a TD.

In a game like this, it will come down to running the ball, stopping the run and turnovers. Should be a great game. Good luck!

I dont know about a guaranteed win but I agree. The outcome of this game comes down to how well our offensive line plays. If they can protect Flacco and open up some holes for our backs, we have a good chance at winning. If they dont, we will probably lose.

You know that Eli is calling Peyton up for this game, trying to get every single piece of advice about our D.

We definitely need to stop the run, like we have been doing all year. Don't let the big plays happen...If anything let them get into the redzone, then we'll stop them there.

I am also worried about our DBs a little bit. Rolle just coming off from and injury, Reed not 100% and Laundry, McAlister going on IR. I do think we have better depht than last year, but you can still tell when those guys are missing still...Teams are going down the field on us alot more than usual.

Flacco has definitely poised with our offense now. Which is really surprising, since he's a rookie. If we can pull this upset, it will give us a big boost in our division and NFL itself.

I guess we can claim we are 2-0 vs Giants in regular season. Plus 1 Super bowl and 2 championships(as Colts) against them. :D So hopefully we can keep the trend going on!

First off, I would like to offer congrats on the success you guys have had thus far this year. Secondly, I am really hoping for an injury-free hard hitting game on Sunday.

As a Giants fan, we used to get all the talks about "you haven't beaten anyone with a winning record" and all of that stuff. Probably the same stuff you guys hear a lot. But regardless, it is always "any given sunday", as cliche as that is.

I will be honest, the Ravens D does worry me. I think its a winnable game for either team. But the biggest keys will be ToP and Turnovers.

Of course ToP will come from the running game. I have read a few posts about how the Ravens' rush D is built for guys like Brandon Jacobs. This maybe true, but we have a 3-headed monster like you guys. Sure, Jacobs hasn't ran 100+ on every game, but when that happens, Ward and Bradshaw generally pick up the slack.

Turnovers are even a bigger concern for me. If the pass D can get at Eli, I have a feeling he may throw at least 2 picks, which may be very costly. However, if our O-line holds up, he will spread it out as he doesn't favor one person for throws.

I am very impressed with Joe so far though.

Either way, good luck on Sunday. :D

Wait a minute...now I'm lost...are you claiming the Ravens are the old Colts? The Colts are in Indy...and aren't you guys the "old Browns"...and then ...who the heck are the "new Browns"...I'm so confused! LOL!

That said-good story-my brother moved to MD two years ago...his next door neighbor is a huge Raven fan...so they go to a game down there where I guess you have a Unitas statue...my brother looks at it and asks innocently..."Hey...How did guys feel when the Colts moved to....." and his buddy butts right in with his hand up in his face to shut him up and says.."Where over that!".

The fact that the history, records, etc. of the BALTIMORE Colts went to Indy is a travesty and really needs reconsideration by the league, considering the Browns got to keep all of their records in Cleveland, it's simply wrong.

If your D had 14 guys, I'd say that would be pretty simple.

Another thing the Ravens will be doing is the no huddle offense. I think that has really opened up our offense more productive than anything lately.

If we have can handle the ToP longer, the Giants D will get tired by 3rd and 4th quarter and the no huddle will weaken the D, giving us the advantage.

I think it will be a tight game, but if they let the Ravens get ahead by 2 possessions it could turn out to be a long night for the Gmen.

There is a reason why we are #1 in rush defense everyear. And we never stack 8 men in the box. Our DL does there job, which allows the linebackers to stop the run. Our front seven are the best run stoppers in the league. This is primarily thanks to Ngata and Bannan. They are quiet players, not a lot of sacks, but they limit holes, and keep OL men from getting to the linebackers.

Then we will be able to double Burress. My biggest concern for the Ravens after that, would be Steve Smith, Boss and Toomer. If the Giants win this game, it should rely heavily upon these three right there.

Fans from every team come on here, talking about their run game. wildcat formations, etc. Everyone gets stuffed. It doesn't happen.

:) I read everything you people said, about the Giants because your correct but the New York Giants offense respect the Ravens defense but our offense look forward to the challenge especially at home. I think all of you are very much asking to much of Joe Flacco and the O-Line away from home against the number 3 overall defense in the NFL and we have him in our house. See the Ravens with Ray Lewis, Reed, Suggs, Scott, and the rest of the defense give our defense a great motivation to play hard because of mutual pride in front of our fans. Yes, I am a diehard Giants fan but I am very realistic with everything and this should give you Ravens fan a good look at your future stud quarterback in Joe Flacco but this stage he isnt ready for as of yet but he will gain plenty of future lessons to take from it.

He will be playing one of the NFL Elite teams but not in his place but ours and I believe he will see pressure he hasnt seen all year at all like he will on sunday. Ray Ray and the defense better have a hardy meal on saturday because they will be on the field alot come sunday that I can promise you very very much so. The Giants will be watching and looking out for trick plays already spent out there because the bag of tricks cant have but so much in there for a rookie quarterback. Trick plays are just one play in the game and one score and that why I believe your team will lose because your defense will spend a great deal of time on the field come sunday.

Good Luck And May The Best Team Win... But I Am 99% Sure The Giants Will Win As Simple As That...

My neighbors here in Havre de Grace is getting on my nerve to even suggest we havent played anybody and the Ravens has played better teams... I must be A Brother From Another Planet... because all NFC East teams play against the Ravens division... We didnt make Schedule and all we do is play it, enough said, Lets Get It On...

well giants fans, wake up we've faced the # 1 D in the NFL, the steelers,
so we lost thats a minus, but,

flacco was in his third start and with a few pass plays for him, if you remember harbaug did't challenge a TD pass to the mase, so

we lost in overtime in the most hostile stadium in the nfl by 3 points on MNF,

boys:

don't take me bad, but this game will be lights out for the giants,

really, you will know what where about.

you didn't know what you're in for, so

the media will have to tell you what happen to you the day before.

sory for eli, finally he will meet the "THING"

HELLOOOOOOOOOOOO
IS PEYTON MANNING WEARING A GIANTS JERSEY ?

Slow down before you think we need to stack 8 to stop your run game. The only time there are that many guys upfront is if its 4th and 1. Which teams got shut out on and havent done it again yet. So Burress will be double teamed. The only thing that will get the Giants the win is through the passing game.
