It was Merton Hanks. Some piss poor DB that turned into NFL VP.

33 career picks ain't that bad. He was the Niner's safety in the 90s. One of the underrated ones. That's why this feels like a huge backstab. From player to bureaucrat.

It's the rules. 3 reappears within three years is a suspension. We can't complain. We can complain about the rule, but not the enforcement. I for one think we the db is locked in and the defencless receiver braces for the hit, ie lowers his body, he's no longer defencless and anything should go. Fair enough of he just catches it and gets absolutely smashed, but sanders braced for the hit, so how is he defencless.

Jimmy Smith is not playing any time soon after surgery
Wasn't sure how serious it was, or if it was minor or whatever. So who you think will have the #2 spot? Graham or Johnson?

Agree. They messed up on saying defencless reciever, it was just helmet to helmet...should only be a fine

Does anyone know what Ryan Clark get for hit on D. Hayward-Bey? Keep in mind that was hit leading with the helmet into defenseless receiver' head. DHB was motionless fot 10 minutes, out with concussion for several weeks.

That was a different Steeler, it was Mundy. Still, Clark racks up fouls like no other.

Ed is appealing and I hope it's over-turned. I can't believe they reference the Brees 'hit' as a player safety issue. It was a tap on the helmet with Reed's hand - it was an idiotic penalty even then. Can't believe it...

The hit on Cruz was clean as a whistle. It was a flag on the field, but no fine because he didn't do anything wrong.

Yeah, you right, it was Mundy on that one, So what did he get for it? Nothing? Pat on the back from Tomlin? Terrible.

Maybe a fine but that hit was way more flagrant than anything Ed Reed has ever done... I'm still in disbelief

Ridiculous... I guess they're just trying to set an example with Reed.
i thought it was a good hit at the time, iI questioned the flag. Didn't know he wasn't fined though. I got slaughtered on here in the other teams game thread for defending him

I smell politics at work here. The NFL is under a lot of pressure with the concussion thing lately, suspending a high-profile player gets attention.

And let's face it. If Reed appeals and wins, it won't be a headline like the suspension is. I'm betting the guy who gave the fine knows that no one's going to check back in on Wednesday to scour the news section, and figured he could make a statement without having to deal with any real blowback.

This is complete crap. The helmet to helmet contact was incidental at best. Going back to the NE game when he supposedly went helmet to helmet with Branch...also bogus. He clearly hit him with his shoulder.

Ed Reed has never ever been a dirty player .

I understand they went all the way back to a Drew Brees hit in 2010 to make this decision .

The NFL should be ashamed . The play last night by Ed was an UNAVOIDABLE helmet
To helmet hit when the receiver dropped his head .

I have never seen Ed make a dirty hit ,ever!!

I wouldn't be saying thanks. Rivers is just going to be throwing deep on us now against Cary and possibly Smith coming off an injury. (dont know, even if he does play he wont be 100 and he got lit up vs them last year)

Chargers need this win. They're at home, HC on hot seat, it's novemeber.... It's going to be hard. We had Reed last year and still got destroyed so idk.

Don't forget that we suck offensively on the road too!

I think this is ridiculous to be suspended.

Hey we're 3-2 on the road, could easily be 4-2 in that Eagles game. But we easily could of lost a bunch of others.

I don't think it will be that loud, I'm expecting a good game from the offense if we can block

I actually agree. Hits above the shoulder are a clear violation.
Ed is really high-maintenance, and it's getting on my nerves. Now watch him open his mouth.
