Merged: Comments on Cam and the Offense-Week 11

97 posts in this topic

Against the weaker defenses it seems the ravens wanna pull out all the gadget plays, but when a defense challenges the offense they usually get shut down. Some say its Cam, some say its Joe, but one thing is for certain they don't get the job done against good defenses. Also I'm sorry to say but Joe is boring to watch. He does some good things, but he rarely if ever makes plays with his feet. Everything is usually in the pocket with Joe and if the pocket breaks down he will never make a play.

Well, what to say?
Cam really did try to lose this game for us tonight.
3rd and 2 - twice - pass the ball.

Now, I love Rice but he is NOT a power back. At least not this season. So why on earth when we do run short yardage do we ALWAYS go to Rice? Do we not have bigger, bulkier RBs? I know we have Leach. What about him?

Oh and Cam, I know we fans have brought this up like a gazillion times in the last five years, but apparently you've forgotten....run, run, third and long pass.....is NOT how you win games.

Oh and there is this little thing called the middle of the field. You might try using it a bit more. Really.

We got lucky tonight. Very very very lucky. I don't think Joe was allowed to audible tonight. I did not see any evidence he did so at all.

Neither Joe nor Harbaugh looked happy after this win. Anyone else notice that?

I just do not have a single clue why Cam is still here.

Texans are the front runners. We have a chance if Joe steps up

The Pats are in the mix.

don't be a dead horse. :deadhorse: ANY win on the road is great! now, it may not always "look" great....like tonight didn't! but we'll take it! Joe and Coach are happy about the "W" but maybe not the way it came about because the offense was non-existent on the road...AGAIN! special teams and the defense showed up but the offense didn't get off the bus which is typical when they travel.

It just struck me how miserable they both looked after time expired because they are usually both very upbeat about our wins, no matter how ugly they may be.

Understood, but they have a much easier schedule to finish out the season.

I have to admit that I cursed Cam up one side and down the other during the game, especially on the run, run, run, punt sequence, but I'll take the win. Tonight was a good night to go conservative, especially after Pitta got knocked out early.
Not sure if we were really going conservative at all. There were plenty of of deep routes, verticle routes that were open. Flacco completions that were successful were only short passes, which made it look conservative.

The 2 bombs flacco threw to a double covered secondaries had other open routes open. NBC made the viewers watch who were open and who were not( if tou havent watched the replays after the plays), amd on those plays there were open receivers, flacco just happen to threw it to the first receiver he saw.

3rd and long we throw underneath on crossing patterns and slants. 3rd and short run deep patterns and throw long. It's like cam thinks he's outsmarting the defense. "I'm going to do the opposite of what most people would do and catch them off gaurd!"

Cam - the reason most call it that way is bc it WORKS.

Joe deserves some blame for being off the mark tonight, but I'd be off my game if I had to play for Cam. It's hard enough to beat an NFL defense, but even harder when you've got to beat your own OC.

We don't use the middle of the field even though its wide open. They roll a safety to play Torrey underneath so we don't take advantage. We pound it with Rice, and even when it wasnt working not once do we try any sweeps or designed run to get outside the tackles.

I'm done and I don't even know what to do about it. I see an eternity of offensive mediocrity and inconsistency with Cam Cameron at the healm. If Ozzie, Bisciotti and Harbs don't see it then they are way too loyal. Time for Caldwell to take over.

the only thing I can remotely even think of in Cams defense, is maybe since we play them again in two weeks he didnt want to pull all the tricks out of the bag? I still want him fired tho!

No way. That was as creative as he gets.

It's a problem that everybody watching knows when we are going to run.

It's a problem that we run 5 yard routes when we need 8, etc etc

It's a problem that we call a pass on 3rd and 2 with 2 minutes left and the Steelers have no time outs.

Cam completely ignores the strengths of our players. It's horrible. Dude is such a bum. It escapes me how he is still the OC.

Harbaugh/Cam will eventually go down together because Harbaugh will never dump Cam.

However, we're 8-2 and are still successful despite Cam so unfortunately Cam is here to stay.

I can't wait for the "Behind the Bench" segments tomorrow night to see if they will shed some light on what happened tonight. I don't know if anyone else noticed it...but it seemed like Flacco was visablly miffed most of the night. But then again, I would be if I had to deal with Cam.

But tonight had a strange feel to it...very strange. Flacco almost for a second looked disappointed in Jacoby's return for a TD. (I know he wasn't 'cause he is a team player, but he looked like he would have rather been given the opportunity to lead the offense to do it, like he was being handicapped by Cam) I agree with Ravensfan...I didn't see much audibling either. What makes tonight's play calling worse is comparing it to what we did last week against the Raiders...Curious, just strange and curious!!! lol bmore187 you might be on to something, lol.

Since Cam is ultimately responsible I'm piling on and throwing this one out there. This is the first time I've noticed it this season, but Torrey Smith was a terrible route runner. It looked like he was phoning it in when they focused on him being covered exclusively by Clark. BUT! I know he was not dogging it, that is just not how this kid acts. It really makes me wonder about the coaching. Yes you Teryl Austin!

He wasn't 'phoning it in', he was being made the number two, 'Watch out for this guy,' target behind Ray Rice. They focused on him and were making sure he wasn't gonna make plays. It happens. Why are you mad at Teryl Austin, I thought the DBs played well last night?

There is little doubt that a lot of our offense struggles were due to the Pittsburgh defense playing a good game.

Cam's terrible....3rd and long and he calls draws, screens, and 5 yard button hooks, then on third and 2 calls a PA bomb....hopeless.
How did we get through the game without an end-around call?

i noticed that to!

Flacco was unable to move the offense into scoring position to put up TDs. and when Jacoby got that punt return he did look pissed! but, like you said, i believe that it was due to the fact that he couldn't get back on the field right away in order to "try" and redeem his game play. that game was ALL special teams and defense....no offense (as far as points)!

All I can say is that other teams made a change - the 49ers hired Jim, the Falcons hired Koetter, the Redskins got Shannahan - and all of their offenses look much better than in years past. I keep pointing this out, but Cam has never coached a 4000 yard passer, a 30 TD thrower. He has tutored exactly 1, 1 quarterback that has made the pro bowl, Drew Brees in 2004, and that was with Marty at the helm, who is an offensive guru with a pedigree. Cam does old school stuff that never seems to play to the strengths of his players, ever. I honestly don't know if Flacco will ever become an elite quarterback, but the thing I do believe is that this offense will never carry this team to a Superbowl with Cam calling the shots.
