Jimmy Smith benched? No, injured.

I didn't see him in on a single play on defense, not even when they got garbage time? What is going on with him? Can you already call him a bust?

Injured

He was on ST though, no? I recall a penalty against #22 in the last quarter.

Harbaugh addressed is in this post game presser. Smith tried to warm up before the game but could not get loose. He tried again at halftime and still couldn't go. They're going to get an assessment on the injury (groin) tomorrow.

Ah. I'll take his word for it. His replacements didn't fare too well, if I'm not mistaken.

Oh, that's Because HE Stinks and can't cover to save his life. Good, keep him benched. If he gets on the Field, let him play special teams.

DOn't know if its a coincidence but man , Didn't our Defense look soooo much better.

That score would have been alot closer had J.Smith been playing, im Positive. Palmer would just throw on J.Smith every single time and he would get burned just like the TEXANS Game.

Graham and Williams only gave up two touchdowns and zero after Reed left the field. I'd say they did pretty well.
[/quote]
Reed gave up one, and the other one was just a good play. Im scared of Wallace tho..... I still wish we had Webb.

Wow man, one year. And your already giving up? Wheres Fly, oh well I will fill in.
One bad game, and that game was alredy over. Cary is our weak link, Jimmy is better imho. Locked down Austin, and had a solid game last week. Our D may be back

Reed wasn't replacing Smith. Agreed with the second TD, though. There really wasn't anything they could really have done.

As for next week, I don't really know. We're doing very well against the run and short passes. Long passes are what kill us. if the Steelers stick with their dink and dunk offense we should keep their points down.

This is the guy who is in hopeless love with Cary Williams, who until recently was a complete bum this season. Irony at its finest!

Our secondary as a whole looked much better today.
Palmer is a very good QB. Aside from TD's his numbers were pretty decent today. (I know I just contradicted my self ) But they played well and made the stops they needed to.

Again, the real test is coming quick.

His replacement, Corey Graham, was picked on all game. Smith is the best corner on our team with Webb out.

HUH??? One bad game. Where have you been. He got tore up in the Chargers game.

Cary is not the Weak link. Its pretty dam obvious Cary in light yrs ahead of Jimmy Smith. Jimmy Smith was supposed to be this so called shut down CB. Well i havn't seen it yet.

I feel embarrassed for you with that statement.

What else does he have to do to prove that Smith is all hype. Man i wish i was wrong and would gladly eat my Words.
But i just don't see that happening.

Well, if we're arguing for one CB over another, that being Cary Williams and Jimmy Smith, respectively, I wouldn't use the Texans game as the example. As Cary didn't fare too well himself, giving up 7 receptions on 8 targets, for 74 yards, 1 TD and a QB rating of 144.8. Just a heads up. I'd probably use another game as an example.

If it makes anyone feel better he's probably about as good as Patrick Peterson...

Except Peterson gives you punt returns.

I wouldn't say that. Aside from the San Francisco contest, Peterson's been very solid in coverage. That game aside, he allowed 22 receptions on 46 targets, only 269 yards and a QB rating of 62.7 through the other 8 weeks. Not too shabby.

Smith hasnt been on the field quite as much, but Cary has given up far more yards and TDs. Just watch the tape. You must be one of those ppl who thinks a couple interceptions magically makes a CB an All Pro.

Past performances aside, Cary played pretty darn well Sunday.

The secondary did look better yesterday. But the front seven also batted down several passes. I'd say getting Suggs back and seeing Upshaw playing better is having an affect. Also, dare I day Ellerbe is a better cover linebacker than Ray Lewis?

I said it before, and I will say it again. The reason our secondary has looked suspect so far is due primarily to a lack of pass rush. Our DL was playing very poorly and so I wasn't surprised with the poor secondary. I expect it to improve with Suggs back and a hopefully healthy Ngata.

I think Smith will still be fine, and I personally haven't lost hope. I think he's pretty good. His biggest issue is the mental aspect, which can be fixed.

I'm embarrassed that you don't seem to know anything about Jimmy Smith or the way we've been criminally misusing him. All the "hype" about him was about his press skills, and we don't press him. He's not playing great because we're not playing him to his strengths, and that's not his fault. He's also obviously been struggling with this groin injury.

He hasn't lived up to his draft tag, but I think he'd been more then capable of it if we actually used him effectively. We should probably press Cary as well. In off-man he likes to give big cushions, and its a problem dating back to last year. Cary had the second fewest snaps in press coverage in the league, behind only the awful Asante Samuels, earlier this year.

Up until the past couple games Jimmy had been outperforming Cary (not that that means much).
