Cody is Not In Good Shape

61 posts in this topic

Every time I see this guy on the field I want to barf. He is literally disgusting. You would think that with this being his third year in the league, that he would be able to get into decent shape.
Does anyone notice how is chest pad sits in his breasts? I mean come on. His just isn't healthy.

I understand that some guys flat out, aren't as talented as others, but Cody is pure cream puff, jello, dough, fluf. I cant take it anymore.

I wouldn't be shocked if 75% of the team could out-squat him, out-bench him, out-deadlift him. Lets not even get started on pullups or any sort of cardio.

I know that he is supposed to be big and I dont care how fat a player is, but if you are gonna come in so doughy, you better have some power (Vince Wolfork pulls it off)

I've kinda accepted that he's probably not going to be a Wilfork or anything close. But part of the problem with our run defense is the too many times inability of this guy to get or create a push into the opponents backfield. Him and Keomatu's consistently getting blocked makes Ellerbe's and McClain's job that much harder. I wonder if his lower body strength is sufficient for a guy his size.

Spot on. He does not have adequate lower body strengh for a guy his size and he doesn't eat up blockers.

I lol'd.

But I get where OP is coming from, even if his/her words are kinda harsh. Cody doesn't exactly exude the essence of a defensive stalwart. But he's still young. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

I would give him the benefit of the doubt if it appeared that he were working harder to get into shape. I understand that some guys are less talented, but out of shape is inexcusable at this point in his career. Sometimes, rookies are out of shape and I understand that, but not in your third year. He has world class trainers, training facilities and doctors at his disposal. He needs to start taking this seriously.

He did also say that the new Nike jerseys make fat guys look like jelly blobs. I agree. Cody looks sloppy as hell.

My sister asked me once, "do these jeans make me look fat?"
My response: "No, your [profanity deleted] makes you look fat"

Cmon Cody, the jersey is not to blame here!

One would think with all the professional trainers and facilities at everyones disposal they would work on a players' weakness. If the man has no push work on lower body strengthening. Evertime I see teams like the NY Giants, Texans, Cowboys, etc., I think why don't the Ravens draft big TALL, STRONG, D-lineman? We go for the rotund, stumpy D-linemen. Guess Ozzie is trying to find the next Sam Adams, smh.

Bottom line, both Cody and Komeateau suck.

Really? who cares what he looks like? the problem should be with his play and his play only. He has long levers and doesn't always use ideal leverage, this coupled with his slow hands makes him easy to move. He was able to get away with it at Bama because he was 400lb playing against 280lb linemen.

Look like a slob and play well.. we can accept that. Look like a slob that never did a squat in your life, and play bad? no acceptable. LOL

I was listening to Torrey on 98Rock ( From Jimmys Seafood) he was clowing on Cody saying that TC ordered a stuffed lobster..and then asked for them to change the order to include BACON. I mean , I love Bacon.. but if my job was to be in reasonable shape, and Ive had weight problems my whole life... might not be the best idea.

Discipline discipline discipline....If Code is really care about his body rather his appetite, he shouldn't look as bad as his looks and his plays on the field.

Remember, you eat to live, not eat to enjoy......

Cody doesn't get it. A lot of young guys don't get it. He could have been our next superstar, he could have been a key cog to a superbowl win last year. He could have become one of our leaders this year. A lot of opportunities are sliding past him.

I'd hate for him to be on the outside looking in, because our young guy Tyson appears to be hungry for this opportunity.

The irony is Brandon McKinney was an absolute rock solid run defender when he was here, he picked up a lot as understudy to Jamal Williams and Buddy Lee.

Is it too soon to hope that we draft Jonathan Jenkins from Georgia?

His stock is going up, he's looking like a mid first. Fellow Bama alumni Jesse Williams would be a better bet late in the first.

I thought Cody was suppose to be in good shape or should i say in better shape than last year because I remember seeing reports about it last year about him working out to get stronger and etc. I dont understand whats wrong with Cody cause he was much better last year when the ravens defense was ranked # 3 in stop the run but maybe he's just playing with bad technique.

If the Ravens knew this was coming...such horrible dline play... They would have maybe tried to keep Redding... Art Jones was also supposed to be in great shape this year... Thats not true either. All of our lineman mostly look the same.. Nose tackels..

Cody is getting pushed around like 170bls DT. That's why the opposing RBs love to run straight up in the middle.

We need someone to step up and take over Cody's playing time. Cody should be on the bench until he's putting himself together cuz Ozzie is very disappointed with his compliment words about Cody in the preseason.

Watching the Steelers and Giants defense yesterday was depressing because i watched as their linebackers and linemen crashed their gaps and stopped the opposing offensive lines movement. One day we will do that consistently again.

Cody is and has always been soft.
We should have a deadlift/squat clause in his contract.
I'm willing to bet he can't squat or dead his own bodyweight...soft.

Our coaches need to put him on Nutrisystem, and have him hit the weight room HARD.

I'm starting to really get tired of him not living up to what he could/should be. There should be no reason he's getting [profanity deleted]ed around at the LOS.

I do not see why they felt like they could punish Mckinnie for showing up overweight but nothing is being done about TC ? The way our defense has struggled to stop the run and his being out of shape has a lot to do with it they would start fining him each day he shows up at the complex. He gets paid very good money and is on a team that relies on him to do his job. I say either fine him or stop fining and making Mckinnie suffer. At least Mckinnie can do a good job when he is on the field. All i see Cody doing is either being pushed backwards or on his back.

I dont really think that TC is that much over-weight for a dlineman per se.. He's just a sloppy 330 lbs.. if that makes sense. He's got small arms, small-ish legs and flabby all over. I give him credit for losing the amount of weight he has... but he was actually more effective at that point, when he had the weight advantage over the opponent. Now that he doesn't.. Strength alone isnt getting it done. This guy needs to really take this stuff seriously . You can tell hes FAR from a gym rat. He's not Casey Hampton where hes a giant dude, Cody is just a fat dude. Where as Hampton is strong as hell and happen to be a very large human naturally. I think TC's frame is probably suited for about 275 ish lbs.

either he is out of shape or he just does not have the strength to play in the NFL. LMAO, even Cody says the new uniform makes him look fat. We are so used to our guys usually as dedicated and strong. Cody just does not seem to want to work out and improve. He gets pushed backwards or onto his back a lot. He is hurting the team and it needs to be addressed right away and then it would take at least 2 months or so to start seeing improved strength.

If he could get in shape i could see a great tandem between him and Ngata and that running up the gut on us would stop and would leave Suggs and Upshaw in single coverage at best and we would be all over that backfield and our corners would have an easier job because the ball would have to com eout so much faster.

Right, it is ok to be heavy if you have the strength which cody doesn't so he is getting pushed around. Never gets any forward pressure and is constantly leaving gaps for the opponents running game.

I don't think he was eating Doritos and sun-bathing, I think he was working out. It's probably a lot harder for him to get into / stay in shape, I don't think his metabolism is the fastest. Weight and fitness will most likely always be an issue with Terrence Cody but he's made some progress.

I was kidding for the most part. I think he's mostly been focused on losing a lot of weight very quickly, so he hasn't been able to maintain his muscle mass. Couple that with some mild success last year and his ego may have got the better of him. Either he'll get it together next season or we bring in someone else, simple as that....such a waste of 2 second picks if he doesn't FIO.

This. I think he's been working too hard on shedding weight and he hasn't picked up any muscle mass. And it really shows in his play.

Ellerbe frustrates me. The rest of our board seems to like him so i try not to bash, but he really frustrates me. I don't look at our defense and see ferocious anymore... I would almost have taken Vontaze Burfict just to put some fear in people again... ya know?

I remember my cousin telling me that Cody is going to totally fail coming into the league and he got by in college with his size meaning being fat but that won't translate to the NFL where you need strength also with technique, not just your size.

I don't understand it either, I get that some people can gain strength without mass as well but that doesn't seem to be the case. Another thing that doesn't make sense is he was in the weightroom with the trainers over the entire offseason. Something doesn't add up.

Its not a secret, if you take care of your body, it will take care of you. Terrell Owens, Ray Lewis. These guys went well beyond the life expectancy of their positions because of their rigorous work out regimens.

Cody, McKinnie. Their performances speak for themselves. I wish I had their opportunities. You are a professional football player. Your pay check is not guaranteed forever. If all you have to do is stay in shape, it should be easy. When I was deployed and fighting in a war zone, I still found a way to keep in shape and work out at least 4 times a week. There is no excuse for anyone with a 6 or 7 figure salary to not be able to work out on a daily basis

Bet you put an ice cream behind the QB and Cody will fly past that D line
