Why not use Leach as a third down back in the backfield for passing situations, I mean we have to use him somehow and instead of run blocking he`s pass blocking. It`s a possibility isn't it? Plus he stays on the field so we can also run too, and it won`t be as obvious.

Seriously?!! Ray and Vonta, "a total of 14 touches each" in the Houston game? I'm really starting to wonder if the Ravens are serious about winning games this season!! I've never been one to be a pessimist with the Ravens and the way they play, but this is insane!!! This needs to be addressed immediately if the plan is to WIN!!!!

Totally agree here. Get back to that smash-mouth run game and get these guys their touches. After the run game is established (well-established), then air it out/no-huddle. It's how this team is built. And, we better start doing it (every game). Go Ravens!!! :)

Tire the defence with the run. Leach is made to lay people out. Why not let him do it?

I'm no football coach, but holy cow, that seems pretty simple.

There's no question that Leach can block. The question is can the OL block. Rice is great. Leach is great. Our OL is far from great. They are undependable and very inconsistent. It is extremely hard to establish the run with an OL like ours. We can only hope that they can find a way to perform better and with more consistency.

From Ravensanalyst

Absolutely! Flacco is getting sacked four times a game and Ray, God bless him, is not quite big enough to pass block everybody who gets through our Swiss cheese OL. He gets run over a lot. So bring Vonta in for play action and let both him and Ray pass block.

Between Cameron and Flacco, we are unfortunately getting away from what has been successful for us in the past, a good balance of the run with short and intermediate passing. For whatever reason, we have become an ineffective (on the road) no-huddle team which cannot convert regularly on 3rd downs, which in turn gets us off the field very quickly... this isn't going to cut it, as we move into November and December. So get off your horses, and start running the ball - dang it!

Sure Ray should run more. Is Biscotti calling the plays? But it all starts with both lines and the d backs. They went out and improved the receiving corps and the special teams. Now find a qb who can play w/o blockers up front? There are none. Not Brees. Not Rogers. I don't think Flacco was ever the right guy for this team unless u wanted Trent Dilfer to stay in the pocket and pass to Ray after glancing down field. But if I were to make as much as Ray and TS and Joe I wouldn't give a darn either.
In the end it comes down to the front office and the ownership. They make the calls. It's their team.

Leach can run the ball. In case you don't remember, Cam, Franco Harris ran the ball. Jerome Bettis ran the ball. No, you probably don't remember. For you, that's the foggy past.

this article makes me sick. Its a shame EVERYONE but the ravens coaches can see we have one of the best tandems with leach and rice in the backfield and they are extremely under utilized, especially on the road. Who cares if the league is becoming a pass-happy one? With the qb plus the running game we shouldn't be discussing issues like this. There has to be a happy medium here. Of course flacco wants to throw more, he's a friggin qb. The point is ray rice needs his carries and that's the bottom line. We have an explosive offense when we aren't one dimensional. I am sick of hearing about this because this is an obvious fix. Please give him his touches and everything will be fine in raven nation.

how about: torrey and jacoby on the outside, boldin on the inside, leach and rice left and right of flacco in the shotgun, any problems here?

We have solid reveivers, maybe even pro-bowl caliber (Torrey Smith). We have a good QB who can make all the throws and read defenses and has a chance to be elite. Thats all well and good, but we have a first team All-Pro RB and FB.
Somebody that didnt know the Ravens but knew the players would easily say we are a running team that can take shots downfield while pounding it down their throat. Its obvious thats what our offense is built for, so maybe we should move a little closer to it.

Cam is blaming Joe for changing to pass plays, point is Cam is full of it because Leach isn't on the field in the first place for there to be a run play!! Leach is the best fullback in the league and Rice is probably the best Running back in the league this team needs to start using both of them!! Cam dosen't understand how to use play action at all!! There is a reason his Dolphins went 1-15 when he was head coach!! Harbs we the fans have been telling you Cam needs to go for years now!! Please start to listen and find us a someone who has some kind of offensive IQ to be the OC!!

The Ravens have had lots of success in the ground game, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Everyone on this board is right - let's balance this thing more, and let Leach, monster that he is, go out there, block, run and catch. He is a monster, and Rice learned this last season. This tandem, along with Flacco, Boldin and T Smith got us into the AFC champ game, and almost into the SB. Should we try doing what works?

Harbs you need to take some advice from your brother because he has the perfect mindset!! We are built just like the 49ers except we have a better QB!! You can still run the ball in this league!! look at New England this year they are also a perfect example!! Cam has to get that passing league crap out of his head because it's tearing our team apart, the offensive and defensive side is suffering!! We are truly lucky to be 5-2!!

No one would dispute that the Ravens are better with Vonta on the field. The problem is with who devises the personnel packages, play calls, and game strategy...ya know THAT guy!

Just because the NFL has become a pass-friendly league, doesn't mean the Ravens have to be always a pass-first team. I still say the Ray Rice is the most important player on offense besides Joe.... and of course, Cam.

So use Ray..... and with Ray comes, as he frequently states, with the reason for his success, Vonta. Cam just can't get out of his own way in trying to turn Joe into a Manning.

Yes, the Ravens are better with Vonta, on the field and he can block or chip anybody getting pressure on Joe, swing out and catch a pass! All this Snivelling and the Ravens Havent even reached their "PEAK" Yet on Offense and Defense! They lost one game because they were Robbed in philly in my book and now the "Hater's" emerge! Joe Flacco, Ray Rice, Vonta Leach, Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith are about to "Murder" some defense's! Too early in the season to let everything out the bag, dont you think?! And, the Defense was trying to Gel and then Ray and Webby went down! Smh on that one but, I know for a Fact that they are gonna respond to that and "Do Work"! Especially with "Sizzle" Back in the Building! Im glad its a 1pm game! I dont think I can wait another MINUTE!

"After Norv Turner gets fired this year we should replace Cam Cameron! Boop, problem solved. Or let one of the fans that are constantly posting on these do it! They seem to know what to do with play calling! They've totally worked in the NFL before! Common Ravens! We're right and you're wrong!" what my dad is screaming after reading all of the comments below. I think he's being sarcastic. Look, I've also read all of these and Flacco could be changing the plays but obviously if Leach isn't even on the field then it's Cam Cameron right? My dad says that the Ravens coaches are the luckiest in the league and have been for four years. He said it's been easy for them because Ray Lewis and the defense just do what they do and then the few things that Flacco can control go right but he doesn't have the balls to bring people on the field. Now that our player personel is deteriorating with free agency and injuries, our coaches are starting to realize that they're no good. My dad likes Dean Pees, though, says that he's an upfront guy and seems to at least be stating the REAL problems on his defense and seems to be trying.

Regardless of how pass happy the league may be now, as a team we know our strengths. And it is up to the team, mainly the OC, to make sure those stregths are utilized in an efficient manner while being catered to the opponent. That all boils down to Vonta and Ray Rice being on the field. I'm not going to say we should pass more or run more, but we need to gain yards and score touchdowns. And I don't see that happening without Rice and Leach on the field.

Cam Cameron is still saying the same thing after what happened in Seattle and Jacksonville last year. Has he learned nothing? Gah....

No, they're not serious about winning; they're trying to lose games on purpose...

Dude, I said it earlier this week, what's wrong with giving Ray Rice 17-20 carries a game and splitting some more with Leach? He's big enough to give other defenses something to worry about.

Best blocking FB in the AFC. he can catch and run with the football because dudes hesitate to tackle the big man. They hesitate and get run over. give ray rice the ball.... And if not run it with pierce. Our offense is built to run. When you have the best FB and a top 5 back!

I'm not sure the belief that solving the problem with Cam Camerson would be to replace him with Norv Turner? Should he even get fired... Where the heck have the Chargers been??? Not in the playoffs the past few years... even with him as their HC. And this year they're not winning many games either... and where exactly do you think Cam came from? San Diego.

I love Leach... When Rice is patient and follows Leach, he picks up at the very least a couple of yards every play they're in there together. Rice has the better opportunity to break one free with Leach in there... He's a beast...

I love all of our ex-Texans.... They have all performed up to my expectations at least.

It's so clear... Our passing game works best... when the running game is working . Period.
Our O-Line is the key to the running game... and we haven't sorted out the O-Line.
Who is to blame for that ? -- We have to get the O-Line corrected enough to run the ball and let the pass game develop off of that. Patriots game !!!

If Leach is blowin' up LB's... Rice is chewing up yards! Running Rice helps WR's and TE's in play-action. Plus it keeps Flacco clean. I love when the "Road Grater" is on the field... I'm sure I'm not alone!

Are you kidding "we are better when Leach is on the field". Who would have thought. The guys a beast. When Rice follows behind him he needs to step over the casualties that Leach has rolled over. Game 8 tomorrow and they just realize it ? Next thing you know they will be saying How much better we are on defense when Suggs is in. Glad we have such observant critiques. LOL

Seriously though, Leach is a killer and a true fullback who knows his job and is the best in the league at it. Rice could almost hide behind him and no one would see him till he gets to the 2nd level of the defense. Still thinking about Watt saying how small he is. Cannot wait to see us get back to the ground and pound tomorrow. Cleveland's D is gonna have a long long day while their offense is sitting on the sideline. They might as well buy tickets as we are keeping that ball most of the game.

I would like to see Leach as a ball carrier and receiver more if they are talking about using everybody on offense!

Everyone is right about running behind Leach, and Rice needs more carries. Fine in a perfect world. But in Raven world, we have the third and three where Flacco chucks the ball 30 yards downfield without even looking for the underneath first down. Until we can convert on third downs, we will find ourselves playing catch-up, and having to throw. Play calling is based on down and distance and execution. If we start running on third and three, or four, and get stopped, everyone will be crying about throwing the ball in those situations. Every time I see Flacco throw long on third down, then punt, it shows no effort to sustain drives. A simple slant, or roll out with an option needs to be part of our arsenal. Holding the ball, hoping a defender falls down, is no plan. Joe has to be more decisive, sense pressure, and get the ball to a receiver. Throwing receivers open is part of what good QB's do, and rolling away from pressure and extending plays is something he should have learned by now. Vonta and Rice can only do so much, and at some point the quarterback will have to make some plays.

We better get back to our roots as a running team. Then burn them deep with Torrey and Jacoby. Q, Pitta, and Dickson are there to move the chains. Lets start playing like the talent level we have on offense. We should dominate teams and wear defenses out. Consistency on offense is key. Know who you are. And lets play so real Raven Football!

I hate how they call this "not a simple task". To have the top blocking fullback, a top 5 qb, a decent receiving core, and a darn good quarterback...Any other offensive coordinator would go nuts. Ravens have one of the top balance of running back, qb, te, and wr in the entire NFL.

For some reason this is o such a tough task for Cam. Maybe you think he just isn't the guy?

HOW Many Times Must We Say It GET RID OF CAMRON!!!! It`s a proven fact just ask MIAMI and the Chargers. It`s easy Run the ball play action and utilize your tightends. Take a couple shots downfield and move the chains. When did football change same game all of the sudden it`s a passing leauge that`s bogus. If you can run do so it controls game not saying run every down but run. 10 yards 4 plays same game this fool wants to throw 50 times a game what a idiot. Best fullback in the leauge Top 5 Running Back what`s so hard. Had some good offensive cordinators on market last year and opted to stay with Camron. He`s not a bad cordnator but never plays to his stengths. Football is complex but simple move ball 10 yards at a time and move down field for touchdown.
