Dudeman

What would it take to bring JJ back?

He was only really missed because Suggs was out. If Suggs was at one side and Kruger and upshaw rotating the other this thread wouldn't exist.

Redding is the one missed, I thought he was a fantastic signing. One of ozzies best free agent pick ups, I was disappointed we couldn't find a way to pay him. Damn franchise tag!

I'm so glad we have Suggs back for good cuz he will take every1 around him to the next level. Even a scrub like me will look good with Suggs on my side....

To be fair, you really shouldn't put a whole lot of stock into highlights. There are a ton of great players in the league that don't make highlights. JJ and Redding are two of them. Highlights don't tell the whole story of a player.

Highlights don't tell the whole story. What does tell the whole story is the general consensus that JJ has been a flop in San Diego. He's washed up.

Really all that needs to be said for this thread. The guy the entire defense misses most is Redding, his versatility and mean streak are sorely missed, he played with an edge the entire time and loved physical contact. DE in our base packages and DT in pass rush situations, we don't have a guy that can do that now with any kind of success. His position is a massive hole right now whereas JJ's spot has been filled nicely by Upshaw as a 7 game rookie while sharing snaps.

I agree! I was merely stating that highlights are not a reliable indicator of a player's talent or performance.

Really? As much as I love JJ and would have loved for him to stay, I know we can't and won't bring him back. So why even bring it up?

Well...you did say he's a great player.

in the defense of the original comment. I-95 was never a big splash player here either.
He was a complete work horse. Kept his mouth shut and did his job and did it well. Not a lot of flash and glam.

Kinda like the shocks on your car. Nothing fancy or spectacular, but you know they are there and you know they work.

Not every one on a football team is or should be or needs to be a super star. That does not make them ineffective.

No, but it does tend to make them overrated. People almost describe words like "splash" of "flash" as if they are irrelevant things that only draw hype, when that couldn't be more false. It is VERY important to have players who make splash plays. They are the ones who define how good a team is, not anyone else. Players are only glorifed for doing the little things because they can't do the big things.
