interesting piece about the current state of the ravens' d, in contrast with the past. he also brings up a point of current nfl defences embracing the ravens defence-first mentality in a very offensive-minded league.

Cannot disagree with anything he said. If they are not sloppy they certainly look sloppy. The bye should change a few things, though.

The comment that we are the most penalized team in the NFL indicates we are
A very undisciplined football team.

When Harbaugh first became coach I was happy because I thought Billick had undisciplined
teams. I'll never forget the Lions game in Detroit . Remember that fiasco ?

Well what has happened to Harbaugh instilling discipline in our team ? It seemed to be there
for years but not anymore.

I am not a huge John Harbaugh fan but I was heartened to see him chew out Chris Thompson on the sideline after a stupid penalty in the second half. As far as Coach Billick is concerned, leave him out of the discussion. He has more football knowledge in his little finger than John Harbaugh has in his head. Its time for some tough love coach. It is more important that your players respect you than love you. Just ask the reigning SB Coach Tom Coughlin. Oh yeh, Coach Billick has a Super Bowl ring too!

I am beginning to question if this coaching staff together knows what they're doing. How they have ruined the defense, a defense that many Ravens fan fell in love with me...saddens me.

One of the most talented running-backs in the league, now lucky to even touch the ball.

A quarterback well talented, but his constant up and down games makes you wonder if it's Joe, or the coaching.

Well I think the play calling in away games has to definitely involve more Leach and Rice . I think the lack of touches here
definitely contributes to Joe's poor play in away games . Nonetheless, its not all Cam's fault yet ill give a larger percentage of the blame to Cam then Joe .

I am a Flacco supporter, but I will reevaluate at the end of the year. If he doesn't have it totally down by then, it may be time for him to try and flourish somewhere else. Not saying he's no good, he just might be a better fit elsewhere.

Yeah I saw this on NFL.com

Been thinking on it for awhile, and there isn't any one thing that has caused our defense to take a step (or two or three) backwards.

Starting with; changing d-coordinators every year. Consistency is huge in year to year, scheme to scheme, and ripples from top to bottom in an organization. The FO drafts a player to fit a scheme for a coach. If a coach leaves and a new one is promoted, then oftentimes the positional coach can suffer too. I have said it before that even though Mattison wasn't really popular, we'd still have Pagano and Pees in their respective coaching positions.

Personnell is also a huge part of how a football unit performs. This is the obvious point, but can't be understated. Losing so many quality players to injury, free agency, retirement etc is going to have an effect. These players become indoctrinated to a system/scheme, and they all need to be on the same page.

I could be wrong but there was a team out there that wanted to interview pagano for a DC job, the ravens were quick to tell mattison to resign and promote pagano to keep him. But this is just a rumor i had read somewhere.
