Don't read into a lot of the hype. Is a storm coming to the East Coast? Yes. I'm not buying into the whole "Superstorm" thing though..
This hurricane will sustain winds almost as strong as a category 1 hurricane once it downgrades to a tropical storm after landfall. Then, it'll collide with a front from the west and cold air streams from Canada. Meteorologists say this is significant enough to create a Perfect Storm, which WILL bring damage.

So, yes, it's a superstorm. And yes, it's serious. It might not be serious in your area, but it's serious enough in other places nearby.

Stay safe everyone!

I've been hearing that we may be getting about 16 inches of snow out here in Frostburg. I'm gonna be in hibernation this week.

It's better to be safe than sorry.

The high winds will keep up for 2+ days and the trees are still pretty well covered with leaves. Massive power outages should be expected.

UMCP closed. I asked a professor about a homework assignment before it was announced school was closed and he ended his response with "Stay safe in the storm. I'm off now to build an ark." That's why I love British people(he's originally from the UK) I really doubt it will be that bad here in Glen Burnie, but I'm still playing it safe. I took a nice hot shower and enjoyed it since my power usually goes out in the smallest of storms. Stay safe everyone.

It's going to be rough out there. People are going to lose power and maybe even water. But the world is not ending. It's like going camping in a luxury tent. We all could have gone to work/school today, at least for the first half of the day. If we all use common sense we'll be safe and things will go back to normal next week at the latest. In the mean time, stay safe!

One thing I'm glad about is that it's late in the season, with leaves dying which may be somewhat in our favor. However with strong sustained winds the point may be moot. I'm stuck at work. Perks of the job you can say. I'll try to keep the lights on folks!

I was sort of hoping that Jim Cantore would come to Baltimore. I really want to meet him. :) I also just hope that since the worst part of the storm is still a ways from getting here (already been crazy!) that the power stays on. Knock on wood, here in Reisterstown (Ridge Rd. more specifically), the lights haven't even flickered yet. Supposedly Falls Rd. is closed? I randomly heard that. It doesn't seem that awful windy yet, just a soaking rain.

Who else works for a company that refuses to shut down despite the hurricane? It's maddening.

The Ravens. ;)

But in reality, the emergency places are always open, and there are always crazy people who think they can drive past their headlights and through standing water on roadways, so extra hospital staff are always called in in situations like this. I think if it's going to get worse, they need to have emergency vehicles only on the roads after dusk, because that's the worst time for cars to be on the road.

Winds really picking up in Reisterstown
A good portion of Falls Rd. is even closed I heard. I'm not leaving this house, so unless they make us evacuate, I'm buckling up here! As long as Ridge Rd. stays open and somewhat passable in case of emergency, this will be a waiting out process for my family and me!

It was snowing here last week.

I'm enjoying the fact that I wouldn't know what a real storm looks like if I had a tree uprooted and thrown at me.

They opened a shelter at Eastern Tech. I know where I'm going if I'm ordered to evacuate.

So far things are pretty mild here.

I'm pretty sure that the projected path last night was straight up the Chesapeake, but it looks like Jersey is going to get the direct hit now.

Funny, the federal government has completely shut down but you have places like Starbucks (which I went to lol) that are open like its a sunny day

Yup, sounds about right. My job at the time of Irene was open, but the Wendy's and Five Guys in our same shopping center were closed. I'm 99.999% sure that nowhere in any Red Cross recommendations on getting ready for a hurricane is "buy lots of shower gel." Easily some of the most boring three hours of my life. And I volunteered to come in because I desperately needed the hours. To this day I'm still amazed we weren't closed for that...
