Alot of people are saying it isnt the scheme here in Bmore......

My question, if Rex was our DC, would our D still be struggling??

Probably, but I doubt that would be struggling quite as much. Let's face it, when you're missing JJ, Redding, Suggs (for most of the season), Lewis and Webb, it's going to manifest itself. There is just no way that you can go without so many good and great players and not have the defense's performance suffer.

I do think that Ryan would do a better job of masking their weaknesses. Pees seems like a square-peg-round-hole kind of guy (which is what I typically say about Cameron). If something doesn't work (like rushing 3 constantly) he appears to want to continue to do it.

However, that is entirely speculation on my part. But then, the whole premise is hypothetical since Ryan is, of course, no longer here.

Ehhhh, I don't tend to look at Rex with purple shades, so when I see the phrase, 'square peg, round hole,' I think of him immediately. He was always under the impression that constant disguising of blitzes was all it took and out cutesied himself a LOT. I don't know if some remember, but our defense got torched routinely by the good QBs because Rex refused to dial it down a notch and call some less 'chaotic' plays. I think Rex would do things a little different with the pieces we have now, but I'm not ready to stand on a precipice and say those things would show a marketed improvement over what we've got going now. I'm not saying it wouldn't either. Maybe he'd bring pressure in a different way instead of blatantly showing his hand like Pees seems to like to do and we might get more hurries that way. On the other hand, he'd probably do what a lot of people keep saying to do, which is have our guys constantly press at the line....and I'd really only feel comfortable doing that if we had Reed '04 and Webby back there (I mean if we're talking about an 80/20 ratio).

Yes. Our secondary would be getting burned twice as bad.

I know it seems like we only rush three because of our inability to get pressure, but I can assure you that there aren't many three man rushes.

Defense looks bad because our offense is horrible
Our offense has been horrible for 2 games. Our defense has been horrible all season.

All the Dean Pees sceming and planning will not aid what is hurting this defense:we lack talent.Sure Sizzles' a beast,as is Ngata, when he has players around him.But outside of that,we have no real playmaking/game changers on the defensive side of the ball.Ed Reed, whos' ability to break on almost any ball in the air ,has now eroded. He can't get there like he used to.Ray who is a sure first ballot HOF,outside of play recognition,is now a liability. Our linebackers,Kruger,McClain,Ellerbe and McClellan, are all guys on their best day, will get the job done, but none of'em are likely to scare any of the OC's remaining on our schedule.Williams is who he is and JimmySmith is hardly playing like a first round draft choice.A good coordinator can play to strenghts and mask defiencies some times;but in crunch time players make plays. We're not as good as the talent we're facing.
I agree i guess saying the offense has been horrible was the wrong choice of words. I still believe that the offense has been average at best, even during the good games like Cincy.

I don't like teams making rash moves, but Pees seriously needs to go. We're in the bottom half of the league in EVERY defensive category and in the bottom third in all yardage categories. I realise we have a number of injuries and that Pees has a tough job, but he just doesn't seem to get the best out of the players we still have.

Pees has run this same bend-don't-break defense his entire career and isn't going to move away from it and it's irritating flaws. This is just a pet hate of mine, but I can't stand watching us play so much off-zone coverage. I hated having to play it and I hate having to watch other people play it. Get up to the line and jam the damn receiver.

It's not just what we've been giving up every week, but how we've been doing it.

Why do you say that? Pretty much every statistical measure would put our offense better than average, especially in the home games. Now on the road is another story entirely.
