Bobby Rainey to be put back on active roster

If this is true then I assume Harbs is preparing for the possibility of increasing the ground assault as a way to keep the defense off the field as much as possible by controlling the ball and clock as opposed to trying the quick score approach which puts the defense on the field often. This could be a smart move.

It would appear that losing the field general and the best CB calls for preparation for a possible change in team strategy. Losing those two and not having Suggs back and up to speed is a team problem not just a defensive one.

I agree with this. It seems as if the FO and coaching staff has really embraced what position the team is in now. We have to win with offense and hope our defense will be good enough to get key stops. If bringing in Rainey gives our offense 1 more weapon I am all for it.

The Texans defense has only 2 weaknesses, their aggresiveness and their secondary. Mabye we are preparing to use a lot of screen passes this game, hopefully that is one of the reasons Rainey is being brought up, to take advantage of those charging Texans.

If this is their approach to the problem I agree with it too. The FO must feel that they do not have access to the quality of defensive player/s that will be a big difference maker so why not add to the offense.

Remember Suggs is coming back from PUP, so I think he will take one of our IR players. As for Bobby Rainey, I thnk he will be promoted because of him being very talent compared to the other practice squad players.

Rainey was likely promoted to the active roster to take Webb's punt returning duties. I wonder what this means for Anthony Allen though.

The theories regarding Ayanbadejo do make sense, even if I will have a hard time forgetting, that he almost lost us the game against Dallas. And it was such an easy play he had to come up with also. Rainey certain looks more sure-handed.

I still want to see Hamilton getting a chance. I read a ton of great things about him from the Cowboys training camp and Harbaugh seemed impressed with him as well.

Oh well, whatever it takes to ease the burden Flacco and Rice have to carry in this season I guess.

This news gave me the crooked neck too.
I am quite a fan of Rainey, but it surprises me to loose two stellar defense players and bump up a rookie offense player.

I think to free up some players on special teams is about the best reason I can think of.

Its going to beintresting to see who gets cut for Suggs, and what if any thing happens with David Reed. I know a lot of people are not a fan of his but he has made some great plays as well as colossal mess ups.

Possibly it's just a move to protect him from a team intending on poaching a running back With Webb out the roster spot is going to waste and they probably just want to protect him while they search for answers to replace our defensive captain and franchise corner.

Like ER_20 said, we might want to give Kindle one last chance. As for David Reed, he needs to go.

My suspicion is that he's learned to play special teams now and he'll replace one of the LBs we've had there as that person's ST responsibilities are reduced.

The answer might be (from our front page):

"Webb was the Ravens’ backup punt returner behind Jacoby Jones. Rainey returned eight punts for 54 yards (6.8 per return) during the preseason."
That would make both Allen and Rainey on ST. But I can't see Rainey at any other position than returner, which would be a backup. Or is it possible Pierce may be banged up and Rainey could jump into No. 2 running back spot behind Rice for this game?

I think Hamilton takes Ray's spot. Happy about Rainey.

Ray's spot will be filled by Suggs by end of this week. Hamilton stays on PS.

How can he be banged up if Cam refuses to give him more than 2 carries?

not necessarily, that could happen only if we want to move sizzle to the 53 men roster and play him... we can wait another 3 weeks ('till week 9 to do that)... so for the next coming games I believe Oz is still looking for a LB on the open market

Why would we take our [s]best[/s] only pass rusher and take him off of the line? It seems like a better idea to wait until Suggs is healthy and then give him his own spot back, and use one of Ray's backups to take Ray's spot. Anyway,

Pretty sure he meant roster spot only. Not physical position on the field...

Yeah your right . We must increase our time of possession on offense in a big way with the defense
in a shambles . We will have to get our ground game going to do this . Rainey is gonna get some
touches .

Exactly. Roster spot only. There is no question Suggs should be playing in HIS SPOT on the field. But as we learn today, Ravens activated Josh Bynes from practice squad to take Ray's spot for now. Little bit surprised by this move, thought Hamilton had better chance, but coaches must see something there. Anyway, it will be Ellerbe starting this week against the Texans.
