[Opinion] Ray Lewis Won't Retire

50 posts in this topic

I just can't see Ray leaving through these circumstances. I think he is going to spend a solid couple of months off soon while also still bouncing in and out of the faclity and coming to games to support everyone. But I can picture this so vivid, Ray Looking at himself in the mirror for a solid 5 minutes with an angry look, and going into the weight room and just completely destroying it. I think ray will come back faster stronger and more elusive next year and make everyone eat there words by still playing at a high level.

Ray doesnt just give up like that. He is not just going to let a few naysayers who think his ship has sailed bring him down. Remember a couple of years ago when Ray tested the market and all those rumors arose that he would be paid millions and millions toplay for the Cowboys?? He thought about it and took a paycut in order to stay with the baltimore ravens, he didnt give up on us so we wont give up on him.

When Ray does retire in the not to distant future I would immediatley hire Ray as a linebackers coach if he ould be willing to do so. His inspiration is a trait..unlike playmaking ability...that never goes away. And he has something no other hall of famer or future hall of famer has. Hopefully a statue of him goes up at M&T Bank stadium so peopl will know the LEGEND that he is and how he went on to win A SECOND SUPERBOWL with HIS baltimore Ravens!!!!!!

Lewis is now on the Designated to Return IR list.

Make the playoffs, get to the bowl and he'll sling it up, win a SB and then ride off!!!!!

I said that yesterday.
That would be an amazing story and a perfect note to bow out on.

It has been said a gagillion times that the man does not want to coach (at least right away) in any capacity when he retires, but spend time with family, watch his kids and stew in his own legacy for a while.
Don't even bother. You can say this all you want but people are still going to lobby endlessly for him to be the DC.

I have no doubt that he would be a good defensive coordinator, but I'm not going to get my hopes up by thinking about it when I know he's not going to.

I don't need to hear it from Ray to know that this truth is evident. Ray won't go out like this, anyone who knows how Ray Lewis lives his life knows this isn't the end of the road.. not quite yet. Ray always talks about legacy, the question that is the epitome of his existence that you hear time and time again from him is "What will your legacy be when your gone?". Ray Lewis won't accept an injury as the final chapter of his Football Legacy.

The body is damageable, bones break, muscles tear, But nothing can deny the Heart of a Lion. We love you Ray, here's to a speedy recovery!

the man will be back, with great vengeance :minioiseau1:

I apologize to anyone if I've reiterated their` thoughts as I haven't read much of this thread. I heard something` on NFL Network that I think bears echoing: Ray has nothing left to prove. He's done everything in this game a linebacker can do and then some. Pro Bowl? Pfft, done multiple times. AP All Pro? Done multiple times. DPOY? Multiples. Super Bowl MVP, plus winning a Super Bowl? Done and done. Ray truly has done it all in this game and is an obvious first ballot HOFer. I understand that his passion for the game knows no bounds, but as far as I'm concerned, the guy could come out tomorrow and say he's done, and I'd do nothing more than tip my hat. I don't care if he went out` with a stupid injury, that's the game and he's still the man. I'd love for him to come in and play one last game this year or maybe play a game next year just so he feels better, but if he stopped right now, it wouldn't make a difference. Ray will always have a spot in my heart, and the heart of Ravens fans and Baltimore for all time.

I am with a few others on this thread. If the Ravens make it to the playoff and the Superbowl, Ray will reactivate and play, hurt or not. For a chance at a Superbowl, Ray will risk reinjuring himself, I am almost sure of it. If the Ravens win the Superbowl, I think Ray will retire and head back to Miami to watch his son play football in college. After his son moves on to the pros or whereever else life might lead him, then Ray may look at coaching or broadcasting.

If the Ravens dont reach the Superbowl, then who knows. Its been said that Ray wont go out like that but then again, time off may allow him to reprioritize his life and choose to go watch his son in Miami anyways. No matter what Ray chooses to do, his legacy will be intact. There is no shame going if he moves on after the injury. Many already believe Ray played longer then he should have. Not only that, he played better than most other LBs well into his twilight. Whatever Rays chooses for his future, he is still a HOFer, and the heart and soul of the Ravens team.

The entire football world is asking if it's time for Ray to step down-----yes, it is. His pre-game exhortations are embarrassing and do not motivate anyone. He's not just a step behind, he's an old man that looks out of place on the field. He can still deliver a blow, but only if the play comes to him.
He's arguably is the best linebacker that ever played the game but past performance doesn't cut it in this game. I don't want to witness another Brett Favre multi-year retirement blunder. Please Ray, let it go.

Don't know about that. I know when I'm at a game, he motivates the crowd. He sets the tone for one of the toughest places to play at.
