Will Webb return back to his pro bowl caliber self?

20 posts in this topic

I know that this second ACL tear is just terrible for Webb and the defense, but when Webb comes back next year will he be the same shutdown corner we're used to seeing or will he turn out like Foxworth?

He shouldn't be as bad as people expect. If you have played sports you know the effects of an ACL Tear but that doesn't mean your play just suddenly drops off. Look at Adrian Peterson...Webb is still young. Luckily it was his other knee. People sometime overplay the effects of injuries on skill but it shouldn't be completely written off. I could see him back to his pro-bowl form maybe halfway through the season.

Don't compare him to Foxworth. Foxworth had a couple good games before he was injured and people expected so much. Webb was the 2nd best corner in the league when he got injured. Plenty of guys show flashes and turn out to be busts; IE. Chris Carr. Even Fabian Washington looked good the first two weeks. Webb should comeback playing fine.

Other leg, and with the emergence of Jimmy, the return of Suggs, and a potentail aquesition at MLB, our D could be 50 times better next year. All I can say is
"All we need is just a little paitence"

As long as the surgery and rehab go well, he tore his ACl and not his football instincts. It could possibly shorten his career or he could be fine.

Honestly, it all depends on how hard he works to come back, like Mod2 says. Triple H of WWE fame tore his quadriceps muscle and came back in eight months because pretty much all he did was rehab and when he wasn't actively rehabbing he was thinking about how much he'd love to rehab right about then. Then he tore his other quad six years later and same thing.

Assuming Webby puts in the work after his surgery he should be just fine come next year.

Yes.
Incase you didnt catch that...
YES.

The three fortunates are 1) Its his OTHER knee. 2) It happened early this season so he has more recop and rehab time. 3) he has been through this before and he knows what to do and what to expect.

No worries. He will be a beast in 2013

I blame alot of this on our Personnel.

We have to be the most injured prone secondary in NFL. Isnt there a way, technique(s), a precaution to keep disaster like this so frequently?

The human knee is one of the most delicate joints there is
The human knee joint wins first prize for bad design. It plays piggy in the middle between the foot and the hip, and suffers when they do.

Imagine a rather wobbly hinge comprising two knobbles on the femur or thigh-bone and a flat surface on the tibia or shin bone, all held together with rather flimsy ligaments. To improve grip, the flat surface (tibia) has two dish-shaped hollows formed by two semi-circles of cartilage tacked down by ligaments. This would have been an asset had not the medial cartilage - i.e. that on the side of the joint facing the other knee - been attached to a broad expanse of ligament on this same side of the joint. Thus every twist of the knee - a common occurrence in a game of football - runs the risk of straining this ligament and yanking the medial cartilage (or meniscus) off the tibia. Any cartilage tear acts like a pencil stuffed into a door hinge - you can hear it scrunching. Once injured, the coup de grace comes from the quadriceps muscle. The whole edifice owes its tenuous stability to the muscle at the front of the thigh (or quadriceps femoris) - in particular the medial part.

At any hint of injury, the quads throw in the towel, go into a wasting decline and render the poor old knee even more unstable - and prone to further damage. As if this weren't bad enough, limping causes the arch muscles in the foot to waste. When the arch begins to collapse, it rotates the tibia medially, putting the damaged knee under still more stress. Swelling is probably one of the few redeeming features of the joint's response to injury - it keeps the warring structures apart and cushions some of the damage. But it doesn't seem to know that too much of a good thing can be harmful
That about covers it.

Also why there are so many knee injuries, its joint makes it vulnerable.

Webb's injury really upsets me. He was a special player and a special guy, I don't want him to go through such hardship.

Webb will be fine. He has a ton of talent and a team behind him to support him. He was upset about going out so early, he will fight to comeback. I know he'll put in the work and I have complete faith he will come back strong. I never lost faith the last time when many questioned how good he would be when he returned. I think he's earned our trust and we need to support him and give it to him.
