We got the ball at like the 35, 40 yard line of CLE, drove 25-30 yards and threw a pick. We didn't get zero yards and throw a pick immediately. There's a difference there. Plus there were a lot of drives where we got things going but stumbled, NOT a lot of three and outs. More like a first down or two and three, and THEN punt. There's a difference there.

If you think points is all the matters, do you think our defense shut down the Chiefs last week? 6 points. And we scored 23 points against the Eagles, which is a decent amount, yet you say we got shut down there. Are you using the same criteria for determining our success level for each game, or not?
Lol you are nit picking. Ok they got some first downs, stumbled and some actual 3 & outs. What is the end result for either? Punting the ball back to the other team. I don't see how you can the Browns didn't stop our offense? And I never said they got shut down? Being stopped is not the same is being completely unable to do anything. I get that points don't always paint the picture of how the games played but it is the objective of the game.

The common thing between those 3 games is that our offense stalled for long stretches in the game and didn't put up the points to help separate the team from their opponent. That is my criteria of being stopped. It put the defense in a difficult position where they had to hold on to a small lead while continuing to have to come back on the field. Can you disagree with that?

I would say our offense was "bad" against the Eagles and Chiefs, but not against the Browns. That's my judgement. There were also long stretches against CLE that Flacco was moving the ball and making great throws. And oh yes, a few first downs does make a difference in field position.

You can have that judgement. You questioned my post and I gave you my reasoning. I think Joe played great in that game.. just had legitimate parts of the game where it wasn't translating (not his fault) into what makes an offense successful.. scoring drives. And okay lol

Any trade that would create improvement or relief would only result in weakening some other area. Don't think we'll see a trade.

I'm sure Oz is beating the bushes looking at all 31 practice squads for possibilities. I think the most likely scenario is we deal with the adversity, look for some folks to step up, and just plan to out score and out last opponents. Hopefully time will heal the injured and we can keep it together for a late season, and post season run.

And also look for full day of tackling drills!

Let me rephrase that. There were long stretches in that game where Joe made great throws and completed passes. By the way, all of Dawsons kicks in that one were 50, 51 and 52 yarders, but Tucker missed a 47 yarder. More points we arguably should've had.

What about their TD drive the second quarter? Our offense moved the ball enough to pin them inside their 10, but the defense gave up 90+ yards. It's not like field position doesn't matter, it clearly does.

Promote Hamilton to a situational pass rusher and move McClellan to ILB.
They may activate Kindle instead of Hamilton, but McClellan is definitely moving to ILB. They may activate DeAngelo Tyson too. He's supposed to be a 34 run stopping DE.

Losing McBean hurt, I really think he was supposed to come in and take Redding's spot.

E.J. Henderson is the only FA I can think of that might be worth considering. We won't be able to fix our problems through FA at this point in time, and I don't think we have good stock to trade outside of draft picks.
Trade is out of the question and I doubt that we'd sign a FA and wait a couple weeks for him to learn the scheme. Promoting from within seems like the best bet. Any info on this guy Hamilton? A lot of people are throwing his name out
I really think Tyson is going to be a stud for a 7th round pick, but I'm not sure he sees time yet. We still have Bryan Hall who the team is very high on.

It's time to give some young guys a shot though. Maybe some fast, young players playing for their careers will help spark the defense. Maybe with Webb out and Jacoby as a KR, we promote Ajax to punt return duties.

Hamilton played against weaker competition in college but broke Robert Mathis' single-season sack record in the Southwestern Atlantic Conference with 20.5 sacks. He was let go by Dallas who had enough pass rushers and favored guys who they spent draft picks on.

I dont think any trades are necessary. I'd likd to see Bryan Hall active. He impressed me in the preseason. I also like the idea of moving McClellan inside and seeing what Hamilton or maybe Kindle can do in a larger role. The secondary I think will be fine. Finally getting Suggs back could be a huge lift. I think we will see him after the bye.

Trade for Josh Wilson.....again. He was a solid cb for us. He is the hell of a lot better than Cary. To fix the Ngata thing Brian Price isn't a bad pickup. What about a trade for Takeo Spkies. And if we can convince Albert that the qb is a pizza, and the rb is ice cream, then I would take him.
I stated this before but this again makes me want to reiterate that a trade is essentially out of the question given how OZ values his picks. I'm still bummed we didn't keep Josh after the year he had

Chykie looked like an impressive rookie to me.
Between him and Smith I think we will be okay.

Lewis missed three or four games last year and Ellerbe (? Who was that? I am having a little brain fart) filled in marvously.

I doubt Nagatas season is in jeopardy.

With Webb on IR it makes it easier to get Sugges back on the roster.
David Reed comes off of PUP this week too.
I know many of us are not fans of his, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Chykie isnt a rookie.

The Lewis injury I'm excited about, not because I don't believe he was still a stud on our defense, but because I'm looking to the future. For the last few years we've been looking for a potential replacement because we knew his day would eventually come. Now we finally get to see who can step up and replace.

When it was first announced about Lewis possibly tearing his triceps, I thought we should promote Hamilton, and slide McClellan back to ILB.

I am really happy we didn't let McClain walk during free agency or cut Ellerbe like I originally wanted. I was wrong to want them gone. Glad I didn't make that decision, lol. With that said, I think we need more depth at LB than CB. I really like Brown & Smith. It sucks that Gorrer is gone, but stuff happens.

Don't take it too much to heart. We fans are famous for that. That's why we're fans and not running the team. :-)

Cut Ellerbe? We'll need him & Brandon Ayanbadejo big time in Houston game. They showed that if they are hot they can be a shut down defenders. Ellerbe more of a sack artist and Brandon a great tackler. I havent seen much of that this year though...

I think you should go back and re-read what was stated. We obviously need Ellerbe going forward.

Any thoughts on picking up Greg Jones at Backer?
Greg Jones is more of a 4-3 guy. He can play MLB in the 3-4, but it's not ideal.

Promote Hamilton to a situational pass rusher and move McClellan to ILB.
I second that notion... McClennan has proven to be an able inside LB, and I would love to see what Hamilton can bring to the table!

One unlikely, but possible move, could be activating Ricky Brown for IR. For some reason, he was never released with an injury settlement. Maybe he is being held on to for these reasons?

Again, I doubt it would happen, but it's at least something to consider.

Like many have said, i don't see us trading for anyone. I believe Asa Jackson will finally be active for his first game sunday and help in the secondary. And we will bring someone up from the PS to help replace Ray. We won't need anyone to replace Ngata because he isn't going to miss any tme

Lol, I'm not. I just remember at the beginning of the offseason being fine with letting McClain go. Then, I was behind letting Ellerbe go after the roster cuts. With all things said, Ellerbe has looked pretty good as a thumper ILB. McClain and Ellerbe will be needed now more than ever. In many ways, perhaps losing Lewis will be a good thing in the end. It will show us what we really have here.

It's just so sad. I hope Lewis isn't done yet. I would be really saddened. Part of me thinks he is done, because that will be hard to come back from and he is already old as it is. Then again, this is Ray Lewis. He may not want to go out from an injury. Then again, I remember him saying when his body told him he was done he would be done.

I was in agreement with Lewis shedding weight, but was concerned if it would cause him to be easily injured. I don't know if there is ANY correlation with the triceps tear and the lost weight, but it is rather odd. Perhaps the combination of lost weight with old age just caught up with him. It's a shame, if this is indeed the end of his career. I wanted him to go out on his terms. I hope he comes back next year. I'd hate to see him lose his chance at another Lombardi.

We will finally need to address the ILB next draft, though. That may be the silver lining from this injury.

Lewis should come back next year, get back to 250 and just play on rush defense. Let the young kids run around the field chasing guys, have Lewis crash through the LOS at his normal weight and blow up HBs.

I fully expect us to find in house replacements for Ray and Webb, and Ngata if his injury is a lingering issue. The only roster change I could see happening is Adrian Hamilton being bumped up from the practice squad, as some of you have said.
