With Webb likely out for the season with a feared torn ACL, Jimmy Smith is now starting at cornerback.

How do you guys think he will fare in his new role, even though he gets a lot of playing time anyway?

I think he will do well. I have been impressed by him from the get go and he really needs to be out there. It's unfortunate that he is only getting to start due to Webb's injury, but I still think our secondary will do well.

You beat me to this (damn Im having an off day).
He did good against Miles, who is an elite reciver. When he played against Dez, he gave up two receptions. Two super talented WR. AJ is a different animal, but I think if Jimmy plays like he did today, then Webbs loss isn't as bad as we think it is.

Jimmy played against AJ in the playoffs last year so he's already experienced his level of play.

he gets his share of penalties, but that can be taught out of him. ( grammar ? )

He is fast and plays pretty well. I am not expecting him to be the next super star but I expect he will do well.

Jimmy, Chykie, and Ajax are all young CBs who can become starting-quality over time. I trust Jimmy to step up in Webb's absence. Graham shouldn't struggle too much as a nickel. The weak points of the pass defense haven't changed. They're still Cary on the outside and the zone over the middle.

I think Jimmy will be fine. I'm hoping this is a jumping off point for him and he takes his game to the next level. Jimmy definitely has the talent and ability.

Our secondary is still better off than the Frank Walker PI days.

This will be helpful in his growth. I wanted him starting but not like this. The corners should be alright cause of the depth and Cary seems to be somewhat improving. I still want to see Asa on the field.

Off topic I think we start to see Kindle more and McClellan moved from olb to mlb a lot.

I'd personally be more worried about Cary Williams , he got abused.

According to his post game interview, Jimmy is looking forward to trying to fill Webby's cleats. The door of opportunity is open to him. I hope he takes advantage of this once in a lifetime chance to prove why the Ravens drafted him in the first place.

Can't imagine why you'd be worried about Cary Williams. I think he did pretty well in coverage and he snagged a critical int for the second game in a row. Webb's probably gone for the year and we need all hands on deck now.

Jimmy has been quietly having a great year, and yes, he did play against aj, shut Welker down in the playoffs, and well. This guy is already a top 20 CB in the nfl. He is a pro bowler if he keeps it up. Webb played the Charles Woodson role, going against their slot guy. Jimmy lined up against their best, and still shut them down this season. It is Cary who has given up yards to their second best (it is Bryant who is their second best). Brown played good on Bryant when he came in. We are fine here, soooosoo much depth. If anything we should be worrying bout the run d

Kinda wish we still had Gorrer....

But Jimmy is going to be fine, and we need to be patient when he shows signs of growing pains. I think the biggest thing is getting his confidence up there. He has all the physical tools you could ask for, and it's not like Reed isn't letting him pick his brain.

That being said though I feel really awful for Webb. He said being on the sidelines from his previous ACL was the hardest thing he has ever had to do. I am sure this is even worse!
