I just don't see where all the optimism has gone. Not many seasons ago, this board was mostly positive as I remember. This is a FAN board, not a criticism board.

well we were a top ranked defense before, now our offense is sketchy, and our d (which we could always rely on) is horrible. except our record not a whole lot to look forward to. and there is no guarantee our record will look good at the end

I'm bumping this thread for those of us who were called pessimistic for being honest about where this team is defensively and offensively, instead of sticking our heads in the sand and wrapping ourselves in our 5 - 1 record. We only played well the first game of the season. The other 5 games prior to the Texans we played like doodoo. Our loss against the Eagles could of just as easily been a win; however, the other four victories could just as easily been losses. 6 - 0, 5 - 1, and 1 - 5; any one of which could have been our record.

Today against the Texans, every hole in our defense and every hole in our offense was exposed for the rest of the league. Not only do we need some Biblical style healing during the BYE week, we need a Biblical style miracle for our defense and a new Offensive Coordinator.

I'm not a pessimist. I'm just living in Realville.

It sucks here in Realville. Any of the "don't worry be happy" crowd around? Tell us why we should be happy now.

All is not lost, we are 5-2, and a few losses by the Texans means we are back in the hunt for the # 1 Seed. The way we have been playing, I'll take 5-2 any day.

Being 5-2 is not the issue. I've said it before,if we were 5-2 but lost respectably, I wouldn't be worrying.

Tell me what was respectable about how we played today?

Where are the people that said we would take care of Watt? Where? Coming up with an excuse?

It really was a pretty good bet given how well our OL handled the Cowboys' DL. Texans DL was VERY impressive today though.

As far as our record, you have to be happy with 5-2 going into the bye. Idk how much is going to change, but anytime you can get some well-deserved rest and spend more time with adjustments, it's a good thing.

Respectably or not, 5-2 = 5-2

We are going to get farther than the Texans. When we
Fire Pees
Fire Cam
And when Ray comes back.
I still think signing EJ Henderson is a good move, good MLB. Jimmy will improve. We have a top ten defense if not for Pees. Intern time, I think that pees is gone by tomorrow morning based on what happened withCastillo

Because it was one game against arguably the best team in the NFL?

Because Suggs came back, and looked pretty good under the circumstances?

Because we are going into the bye 5-2?

Because being excessively negative all the time, and trying to bring everyone else around you down to your crappy, life is terrible level just plain sucks and is a waste of time? Why not try some deep breathing or something, instead of reminding everyone how terrible everything is with every single post?

Todays game should have been closer than the score showed. Before the flames come on. I'll say we got jobbed alot by the refs. They really blew it at the most crucial times by not calling PI and calling phantoms against us. The Texan lover commentators were even saying how they were jobbing us.

Should have been 30-20 Texans

Meh.

Today anything that could go wrong, went wrong.

Our tipped passes were picked off/taken back for TD's.

Texas tipped passes were caught.

Several iffy calls; the most aggravating one for me was the 15 yarder on Pollard where he had his grill grabbed equally as flagrantly.

Punt that led to game changing safety was almost a touch back by inches.

Cam got away from the run way too early.

About all that went right was Justin Tucker.

It happens. Best to get it all out in one game against a good team on the road.

Also, what team has looked amazing every game?

Even the Falcons, 6-0, have looked awful their last 3.

Texans had looked very beatable two in a row coming into this one.

We're 5-2, nobody else in the division has more than 3 wins. I'll take that heading into the bye. With our next two games vs Cleveland and Oakland we could easily be 7-2 before hitting the PIT/SD/PIT stretch.

looking at our schedule 5-2 heading into the bye is a good thing.

i don´t care if we had some luck in those close wins. when you win you win. when you lose you lose. even if it´s a blowout like yesterday it is still only -1!

time to rest and making some adjustments. getting healthy and burn the browns after that...

Cmon man...yeah, they missed a few calls, but that does not detract in any way, shape or form that we got our asses handed to us. Simple as that, they threw us a beat down.

I hope they enjoyed it, though. Next time we meet, we may not be fielding our defensive practice squad against them.

Eh, I'm not even upset about the team. We got whupped, and I'm not too happy with what the guys were saying after the game but whaddya gonna do? Nothing has really changed, and I'm happy the Texans got their little tantrum from getting drummed at home last week (and six previous times by the Ravens) out of their system so that when we see them in the playoffs we can give them a dose of their own medicine when it actually counts for something and prove that they only get one free shot on a super injured team and yesterday was it. I actually feel better about the team as a whole now than I did last week too. Sizzle's back, Ngata's a warrior, Jimmy looked pretty good, Cary is still Cary but at least not any worse and the whole team probably got screamed at the entire flight home. John looked pretty tight around the eyes after the game.

We'll either take this horrible loss and run with it by turning it into a positive, or we limp our way into the playoffs and have to hope luck will be on our side.

Because it was one game against arguably the best team in the NFL?

It isnt one game, its six games in a row that we have played like crap.

Because Suggs came back, and looked pretty good under the circumstances?

That is one bright spot. That and Tucker is still amazing. So we have two guys doing thier jobs. Two guys do not make a team.

Because we are going into the bye 5-2?

That is meaningless since it is past history. Last week it was all "we are 5-1" all is rosey. In three weeks it could just as easily be "we are 5-3 and all is rosey", and it will be if something is not done.

Because being excessively negative all the time, and trying to bring everyone else around you down to your crappy, life is terrible level just plain sucks and is a waste of time? Why not try some deep breathing or something, instead of reminding everyone how terrible everything is with every single post?

You dont know me, so you cannot make even an ignorant assumption as to my "all the time" much less an informed one. Don't bother trying. I am not trying to bring anyone down, I am trying to inject some reality into an otherwise airheaded conversation. This is a forum where people come to exchange and discuss opinions. You don't like them don't read them. And by the way, reading a forum is a waste of time as well. Its my time, I will waste it the way I want to. Thank you.

The game was horrible, I am venting. It is not that we lost, I had a suspicion we might, it is that we were beaten like a cheap rug. It is disheartening. You want some positives, I am completely certain we will win the division and make the playoffs. I have no doubt. We may even sweep again, depending on how weary the team is with that weird Steelers/Chargers/Steelers thing. Still, we are playing like the Browns. How far we go in the playoffs, depends on whether or not something can be done to right the ugly direction the team is going.

You're right. I don't know you personally. But you've given a pretty good indication of what it would be like to be around you.

You said it sucks in realville ( or excessivelynegativetown. But I digress...). You asked where the positive people were. And then you asked why you should be happy.

I gave you a number of reasons. You shot them down with even more negativity.

It seems you are happy being overly negative. I will stop trying to cheer you up. Enjoy your rain cloud! Life sucks! Ravens could suck in 3 weeks, so lets be angry now! Is that more to your liking?

You are such an insightful and enlightened being, if you can make so sweeping a judgement about a person from a single (very short) post. What a delight you must be at parties!

Berating a meaningless post is your method of "cheering someone up"? Maybe you should quit the sugarplum fairy gig and go into another line of work? I do not remember asking to be cheered up. I was hoping to enjoy my brief stay in misery ( which does love company) with another realist, not one of the lollipop/butterfly crowd.

And yes, on the odd rare occasion reality sucks. It is why we humans have various escapism like...oh I don't know...FOOTBALL. And FORUMS.

At least be honest. You are just POed that someone (well, nearly everyone) is down talking the Ravens. You do know that one can be a fan and not believe that the team will win. Its okay to be a rational fan. You must have had the idea that the Ravens would lose at least one game this year. Go ahead admit it. I won't tell.

Oh, by the way, you have successfully ruined my grief for me with all your sunshine and hope. I trust you are happy.

And just so you know, I made a post on the positive forum. (it was a positive post) So I am not a complete curmudgeon... yet.

How dare you be critical of the team! Its not like they just got spanked by a team we might see again in the post season... it seems around here like whenever you speak facts, especially about our beloved qb you're going to get criticism questioning your fan card or know anything abiuy football. There is also the you're too negative people. Fact, the team is lucky to have this record right now. Chiefs should've beat us and so should the cowboys. Got luck against the Pats and the Browns were real close to an upset at our house. That offense is still inconsistent and somehow though we're giving up yards at a record pace we're not the worst defense in th NFL, yet at least. Defense showed improvement last game regardless of what people think. Had the o not crapped the bed we could easily have had a lead going into the half. Something needs to change and it needs to change fast. Harbaugh needs to send a message to this team over the bye and especially to Cam and his supposed game planning. I wouldn't mind him brining in someone else like Belicheck did with his Oc incase we decide to axe Cam mid season. The offense has been too inconsistent for too long now to not hold him accountable.

i'm pissed to! i'm venting to! i agree that we were a top ranked defense and that we could always count on them to save the day (game). those days seem to be slowing disappearing from us and making superman (Ravens) appear to be a mere mortal (Clark Kent) like other defenses across the league. however, i believe that we still have a good team and have a lot to look forward to as Ravens fans. our team has been exposed, beaten, bruised, battered and embarrassed in yesterdays game and they need our support now more than ever. Good time for a bye. Bad game where every break went against the Ravens. After the begining of the 2nd half it didnt look like they were playing to win. Just trying to get out of the building. Reminds me a lot of the Chargers game last year. Take the bye to get Ngata's knee fully healed (hopefully), get Suggs back closer to full speed and make some adjustments. For the love of god I hope Cameron can come to the realization that when you don't run Rice bad things happen! Give the ball to Rice and let him set up the pass!!!!!!!!!!! The next two games are quite winnable. Cleveland tends to play us close but we are still the better team on both sides of the ball (beat up secondary should still do okay against a rookie qb) and then a home game against Oakland (glad its at home, the Ravens don't do well on West Coast trips). Not overlooking these two teams but when the chips are a bit down like they are now you would prefer to play a team that isn't doing so well. Then probably a big game in Pittsburgh against the Steelers. It looks like the Bengals are quickly dooming themselves to not competing for the division title again although I may be speaking too soon. We have problems of course but Pittsburgh has just as serious problems as we do, if not worse. Poor run game, mediocre defense (I think Suggs already has more sacks than Harrison this year ha) and their offensive line is a mess. First thing first the Ravens need to win the division. You win the division you get a home game. After that we can start worrying about seeding and maybe getting that precious bye. Things are still not that bad. Ravens were 5 and 2 this time last year.

at this point it isnt just coaching or bad playing, but a combination of both. so its safe to say that changes need to be made on both sides of the field (players/coaching) in order to see an improvement

I know we don't play the football a team with a 5-2 record second in the AFC should, the old style organized chaos defence we are so fond of and super hyped tempo air bomb offence we dream of. So, in my unlimited madness, I thought the best way to support my case, in showing the above mentioned fellow fans that giving up on a season would NOT make the next season look any better, would be to list our opponents for next year. Without any further ado, here's what I got:
- 6 games vs our division: 2 vs Squaks (Home and Away), 2 vs Bungals (H & A), 2 vs Brownies (H & A) => worst scenario 4-2 record (road games in the pitts and stripy field could be hard to win)
- 4 games vs AFC East: Patsies away (league will take care of that!), Bills at home (they don't really have a home anymore anyway), Fins away (league's new darlings), Jets at home (league might hate a team more than Ravens lol) => anyhow at least 2-2
- 4 games vs NFC North: Pack at home, Bears away, Vikings at home, Lions away => 2-2 here as well? pack at home could be our first home loss after so many games without
- my belief is we'll win AFC North this year, no fear about it, so we'll get to play first in AFC South - Texans (at home this time) and first in AFC West - Broncos (Manning awaaaaaaay) => record 1-1

My prediction would be a 9-7 season then. Big asterix - with the team playing like we are at the moment and no help from draft, so just a fairytale vision lol. Why would we be giving up on our team when we are in a very good position to go all the way this season and when we don't really know how next season will look anyway? Coach, Oz, players, coordinators et all others involved could still deliver a decent team that could improve with every game after the bye. Just chill and wait to draw lines at the end of the season. Regards...

It would be so easy to agree with your rudimentary assessment were it not for the recent example of the last Super Bowl. The last winner went 9-7 during the regular season and won the SB. I would agree that we have yet to demonstrate that we can dominate a good team. Our Vs have been against average teams. Against top teams, we haven't won yet and we must prove that we can win on the road to advance to the SB because Houston has now established itself as the team to beat in the AFC. We have plenty time to turn around our team but "the future is now" to borrow a phrase from Coach George Allen. It is ironic that some fair-weather fans are already writing this team's epithet so soon in the season at a time when arguably our record should be 6-1. The team that peaks at the right time will be the team to advance to the SB. We will see what kind of mettle our DBs are made of later this season when we have to play the Mannings, RG3, Big Ben twice, Palmer, Rivers et al. Life is a series of missed opportunities.
We must embrace the challenge and make the most of the opportunities we have. I am more concerned about inspiration for the team than anything else. This team has had to ride the crest of an emotional roller-coaster with the unfortunate and untimely death of Torrey's younger brother as well as the death of an NFL icon Mr. Modell. If that isn't enough inspiration, I don't know what is.

Tell me this, if you had to be ahead in any one stat, which would it be? The "W" of course. Are the players proud of the performance??? I would guess not, but we have way more positives then negatives going forward.
