And just like that, CB has jumped all the way up in terms of draft priority.

I think there are bigger needs on our defense than CB.

Definitely. Assuming that Webb comes back at least mostly healthy, it shouldn't be at the top of the list. Not as if it could help us now.

well we still have no pass rush, and now have no secondary! uhhh this is not good. hopefully suggs will return to full form when he comes back. we are going to really need him..

Yep, Jimmy preformed at an elite level if you don't count his penalties. Jimmy, Asa, and Brown all are promising. Next year our secondary will be tough to mess with.

Could be losing Cary also and is graham a 1 year salary?

I'm not exactly high on Cary Williams as it is, but I realize that he's still our starter. That being said, it still wouldn't be enormous enough of a loss to catapult the CB position to the top of our Draft needs. And rmw10 just beat me to it, but Graham will still have another year left. I'm not suggesting that we don't upgrade the position, either via the Draft or FA, but I just wouldn't make it our absolute top priority.

Why couldn't Cary get hurt and Webb stay healthy .......

Why couldn't Cam be stuck by lightning...... if only it were that easy

Looks like it's just been confirmed by Aaron Wilson.

"Torn ACL for Lardarius Webb, according to source with knowledge of the situation, MRI confirms."

unfortunately, in this game our stars and starters may go down. that being the case....Cary, Jimmy and Chykie (Corey Graham or Asa Jackson as well) will step up in the absence of Webb! McClain and Ellerbe will step up in the absence of Ray! Suggs comes back soon and will be the emotional anchor of the defense w/Ed Reed. i predict that we will be fine!

in my Deion Sanders voice...."I STILL believe in the Ravens!"

The only problematic loss for me is Webb. I don't see Ngata missing any games, because his injury wasn't even big enough for him stay off the field during the game he got injured on. We did manage to play good defense without Lewis on the field last year and we all know, that he can provide his leadership off the field still.
I hope Williams and Smith can step up their game though.
Let's hope the return of Suggs atleast manages to ignite some defensive spark or something. That defense practically sleepwalked over that field against the Cowboys.

Once a saw Adam Schefter reported it, reality really set in, really sucks for Webb having already suffered the injury in the opposite knee, I wish him a speedy recovery and hopefully he can pick up where he left off this season, he was on his way to CB super-stardom

It's official, Webb is done for the season according to PFT.

Even if it's not the ACL, it will slow Webb down for a majority of the season. We really don't have anyone capable to replace him. That's why the Cowboys almost pulled out a win. Every win is important this year. Too bad the pass interference call cost us the game with the Eagles. Anyway, a loss to the Texans isn't the end of the season. We still have some tough Steelers games coming up.

Well, we will play with the next man up. Who might that be? Jimmy Smith and Williams seem to be the logical starters. Chyke off the bench. Is there anyone worth noting on the practice squad?

It's Jimmy's time to shine! I'm pretty confident he will make up for the loss in a big way. Also heard Asa Jackson was quite the playmaker in college?

It remains to be seen how close to 100% Suggs will be when he gets back.

Having said that, if he is back to his old self by late in the season I have to believe that our defense will be better with Sugg and not Lewis/Webb than the other way around. Suggs will help stopping the run and help all of our corners improve with his pass rush.

A Suggs at 50 percent is better then anything we have right now at Linebacker .

Losing Webb really, REALLY hurts our pass D. Especially on third downs. The Ravens would shift Webb inside on third downs to the smaller shiftier receivers. Basically because Smith and Williams and best suited on bigger guys and cant keep up with those type of receivers.

There is such a huge drop off from Webb to Brown or Jackson. We are going to have trouble when we face teams that have those small receivers that are productive. Antonio Brown twice, Victor Cruz, Hawkins again. Those are the types of guys that Webb would usually go inside and take on third downs.

Thank you, Mili, for being the voice of reason around here.

Just read where Ed Reed said Webb's loss "is going to kill us". Well, maybe not if Ed just steps up and make a few tackles - he looked horrible on several plays yesterday.
Meanwhile, I thought Jimmy Smith is showing serious improvement, Chykie looked great, and even Cary Williams is stepping it game by game after a pretty bad start.

Still, heartbreaking loss - for Webb, the team, and us. But what I love most about this team is it's built on character - and nobody's going to stop fighting because of a little adversity.

I think we should resign Cary now. Not as much as we sent him earlier, but we have to do something.
[/quote]

What for? It's not like his contract is up in the middle of the year. He'd also have more leverage at this point because it would be out of desperation, and we'd be on the hook for probably around $6 million per year from here on in. I honestly do not see any team matching the offer in either case, should he see the open market. I'd much rather us evaluate our options at the end of the season, see who's there in the FA pool and in the Draft, and then make the best possible move.

Because right now he is arguably our best CB. As sad as it sounds we don't know how Webb will recover after this. I believe he'll bounce back and be his old self, but when will that be? Fortuantly we got good depth at CB, but we have so many offseason needs regarding our OL and defensive front 7, I don't want to go into next year with us just relying on Webb and Jimmy. Cary will be best option for us. Knows defense, has expierence, not that costly (We think). Cary hasn't been lighting it up this season, and if he still won't take a 3 year 15 he's out of his mind. I wouldn't want us giving that to him neither.
