Steeler Injuries bad luck or something else?

19 posts in this topic

I watched the Steelers gamed on Thursday and am going to the Ravens game in November there (from Wyoming its a heck of a trip but should be fun). I am glad the Steelers are having a rough time and we already have some distance between us and them for the AFC North title (first things first win the division then worry about playoff seeding) but I do feel bad about the injury issues the team is having. They were dropping like flies in the game against the Titans.
I was just fishing for opinions. Is it just plain bad luck or is there something else going on with the Steelers? I have heard comments that some of the players do not take conditioning time real serious. Or is it just the age of some of their players. They have been having horrible injury issues since the begining of last year. I am starting to think that it is not just bad luck.

It's probably hard on the player's bodies in those Thursday games. Off the top of my head, Torrey and Joe came away with minor injuries against the Browns - I consider us lucky for only that.

Honestly, before the season started, I predicted the Bengals were going to be our biggest threat in our division. Even when healthy, the Steelers havent been good this year

They have a lot of old players who can't stay healthy, but the O-line is probably just tough luck, at least for what I've heard.
You could also argue about it being the power of Thursday Night Games.

If I was a steeler fan I would be rightfully attempting some new gameday superstitions to hope the injuries might stop.

However as said there may be something underlying all this maybe their strength and conditioning programming is not focusing on flexibility and cardio as much as others. However I tend to lean bad luck and once you have one injury to any area everywhere around it and the preexisting injury have got to be somewhat more susceptible - so it could just be a vicious cycle at this point

They should probably look at replacing that medical/training staff. They've mad some questionable calls, for example putting Ben back in the game against Cleveland last year. After that game he wasn't the same for the rest of the season.

It's a combination of things IMO: age with Polamolu and Woodley, maybe some poor luck with their offensive linemen and running-backs (honestly I'm surprised running backs in general aren't out more often given the kind of pounding they take every week). And as mentioned, they seem to let players dictate their own game-time status more often than they should. I already believe Roethlisberger's days are numbered with the number of hits he takes and his style of play.

They have had more than their share this year. I don't wish injuries on anyone because that bad karma will come back on us. If we can continue to stay healthy and then get Suggs back toward the end of the season so that by the playoffs he can be in good football shape we should be able to roll to the playoffs. I just don't think that this is going to be the Steelers year, but we can't overlook them because they have our game circled on their calenders, due to the bad blood between us.

Not only is it age and injuries, but I think the poor drafting over the last couple years is catching up to them. Ok, they have had some solid picks but Maurkice Pouncey is the only draft pick that stands out to me over the past couple years. They just haven't drafted solid replacements for their older players, which is hurting them in combination of age catching up to players like Harrison and Troy.

This is a Steeler thread, so here you go:

Anyone remember all the fuss over Alameda Ta'amu during draft day?

Move this over to the Arrest Thread. Though I do find it amusing since it was a Steeler lol.
Yeah I didn't because it was the offseason thread, until you just changed it I assume. So much for defensive depth. Ta'amu was talked about like he was the biggest steal of the draft and would bolster the front of the Steeler D for the next 10 years. So far he hasn't been active and what happened to Holmes tells me the Steelers will come down hard on him for this.

True but come on, name someone other than Pouncey who has been a solid draft pick that hasn't been injured?
I Really can't Remember the time we have had a bad draft...JO. Really? We have had a couple of set backs with our draft of this year..However, our previous draft choices are showing up everyday to work, And working hard. A combination of age and how we play. The Steelers sell there bodies all over the field, That does grow old with time and age. Other than that. We was the oldest Defense in the league last yr and we led in all phases.
