Should The Ravens Choose Experience Over Excitment For Rice On Sunday Vs Texans?

28 posts in this topic

Or should they stick with the hotter runner Ray Rice? Ray has averaged 7.5 yards per carry compared to Mcgahee's less than 3 in 3 of his past 4 games..

Here's what I think..
Rice seems to make more BIG plays yet hasen't seemed to make the endzone just yet, but ray can CATCH too..he's had 40 AND 21 yds & he's hard to bring down in the open feild. Rice seems to be the better receiver. In 8 games with us he's had 18 receptions second most on the team. He's caught nearly everything thrown @ him and has been a dependable receiver. The same can't be said for mcgahee..who recently short armed a pass in fear of being hit. and has NEVER had more than 30 receptions in his previous 3 seasons..Rice seems to be a better fit for the shotgun offsense. Rice ran seven times out of the shutgun for 127 yards and and average of 18.1 YARDS per carry!! that should keep defenses off balance and open up the passing game too. For the sake of argument.. mcgahee has a knack for the endzone.. he has scored 10 TD'S in 20 starts for baltimore. Rice has yet to do that.. Mcgahee is the bigger investment too, coaching choices should NEVER be becasue of money BUT it would be a pretty costly decision to start rice..we traded 3 draft picks to get him..Mcgahee has a PROVEN record.. Unlike Rice willis has gained at least 1,000 yards in three of his four seasons...Its a tough call.. In the end, I say use them both when the proper time calls for it.. No doubt in my mind RICE NEEDS TO BE STARTER one day..

I think we should start Rice. He will find the endzone and soon. I also like starting the three headed monster, providing McGahee is well enough to play. He's very injury prone. I said in an earlier post that we should cut McGahee to make room in the salary cap to keep Ray-Ray Suggs AND Bart Scott - hot sauce baby! GO RAVENS

The ravens would be taking an $8 million loss if we cut Mcgahee.. I just don't see it happening. But I dont see how Willis can run well with Rib,chest & Knee injurys.

If Willis is 100% i think he should start and Ray gets the majority of 3rd downs. And you cant forget McClain for the short stuff/running the clock.

I agree, "start" whoever, but mix it up, and let whoever turns up hot go until it stops working.

I don't really care as long as the play-calling in terms of personnel is correct. i.e. Using McClain as our short yardage back, not Ray Rice. If McGahee is 100% there's not doubt in my mind we start him.

Id rather go with Rice. Hes done pretty good at getting us out of 3rd down situations when he gets the ball. (Not as good as D.Mase but better then McGahee)
So Id like to see Rice get another shot to see if he can post us the most yards on rushing this week.

If McGahee isn't 100% (which seems all the time), I think the 3 headed monster is the way to go. All 3 of them are different runners, and bring something different to the game. If one of them gets in a groove, keep them in, otherwise, keep mixing it up to keep the defense on their toes.

i just say go with the mix and see who turns out good.. I mean mcgahee is our number 1 rb so we should start with him and then take if from their.. If he continues to struggle or look hurt then sit him and start rice and mix mcclain in with him...

Your right, Mcgahee is our first RB BUT if you'd look at the Stats you'd think that Rice was..

McGahee is a solid RB, a one cut bruiser.
Rice is great at making defenders miss, and has great hands. Did you know he's our second leading receiver?!
LeRon getting carries is smart too. If you don't get that dude low, you'll be backpeddling.

Like Subzero said, it sounds cliche, -but they each really do have unique strengths. Teams can only wish they have a running committee like we do!

If Willis is healthy I say give him a shot and if he doesn't get it done within the first quarter then bring in rice. I never thought I would ever say that we now have a lot of offensive options. It's beena long rough road for our offense but I think we have finally turned that corner.

Except maybe for that forgotten dude in your pic. He's one heckuva blocker!

Again, Le'Ron/Rice/McGahee are only successful because they complement each other so well. You start Willis because he is an all around NFL running back, and bring in Rice to burst through the hole against a tired defense.

I think Rice and McGahee can be successful on their own. Rice showed that in the Browns' game, and McGahee showed that all of last season. I just think that doing it like this, RB by committee keeps the legs fresh, keeps the opposing gameplan confused, and creates a change of pace.

Well on the Injury report, it says that all are probable, so I don't know who is injured enough, but I think after Rays performance last week, he should get the start.
