Cam has finially realised the issue on offense

65 posts in this topic

You see other OCs making efforts to get the ball into the hands of their outside play-makers all the time. Special talents like Julio Jones, Demaryius Thomas and Percy Harvin aren't counted to simply beat their opponents and catch the ball. Their coaches make sure they get theirs, even with defenses keying on them. I rarely get that feeling watching Cam's offense.

We'll see how the O fairs against the Cowboys but I'd hate to see the WRs, specifically Torrey, go multiple drives without so much as a target for a consecutive week.

I didn't intend this to be a bashing thread, more an optimistic thread
It's funny. I could tell you started this thread just from the title. Only somebody from the British Isles would spell realized with an 's' lol

Check out this video, lol. Thank you Wade Harmon for the four minute, and to the staffers who talked Cam out of doing something cute or that would have been a very different outcome!
haven't watched the video but I'm assuming this is cam wanting to do a playaction rollout?

That's exactly what I wanted aswell and it would have worked, it will work everytime the way defenses stuff the box and key in on rice

I'm glad some are not buying into Cam saying anything or doing anything to keep his job. The problem is it always comes much too late and rarely during the heat of battle. We hear often about players executing, the players do their job in spite of Cameron not because of him.

I'm a believer in what Winston Churchill once said--- "The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see."

This is good for two reasons. Now our corners will practice press and our receivers will get use to playing against it. About damn time.
Yup, we need as much practice as possible on both sides of the ball. I still can't figure out why our big corners are playing 10 yards away from the receiver, especially with our pass rush as poor as it has been. Jam these guys, throw off the timing, and maybe we get more game changing plays or at least coverage sacks.

As for the receivers, its about time, we worked on this. How it took this long to see that we struggle in this way is beyond me, but I don't think adaptability is in Cam's nature. It was pretty apparent in week two that the more aggressive the corners played, the worse our offense fared.

I think like others here that being very predictable as we are. In almost every game we have went deep on the first play and every series after that we run run pass punt. I would love to give Flacco control for an entire game and then i think you will see Joe at his best. I know cam thinks he is doing the best for the team but no one has a better feel for the game and the coverage than Joe does. Let him run it for a game and i bet an improvement will be noticed.

Saw this fact on a Matthew Berry fantasy article published yesterday:
[Flacco's] the only NFL quarterback whose average pass is travelling more than 10 yards downfield.
The positive is obviously that it leads to big chunks of yards but the plays can be inefficient, and they work even less against CBs adept in man coverage.

Cam has realized the problem? Well when he gets rid of the ego and admits he is the problem, then he will have figured out the problem on offense.
not surprising, we are a deep play offense, yet anytime we try slants, quick screens, hitches, comebacks etc etc they always work.

I wish Cam would throw more slants, screens, and swings. Joe and Rice made a really nice play on a swing route last week and it was beautiful. I want to see that play more.

Anyone remembers 2 crucial plays against KC that won game for us? Flacco facing 3rd down & 15, took the ball an RAN for 1st down. And later Rice facing 3rd & 1, again RAN for 1st down. So with that in mind, our passing game however fancy it may be, it is neccesary for us to convert 3rd downs and keep the drive going. Someone needs to tell Cam, when we are ahead on the scoreboard, we don't have to keep passing, it would be wise to run the ball and control the clock. Last game vs. KC in fist half, Chiefs held the ball for almost 20 mins to Ravens only 10 min ! Somehow we found the way to win, thanks to their 4 turnovers. Also in the game vs. Browns, the worst team in NFL in stopping the run, Cam decided to put on 'Air Show' with Flacco throwing 47 times?, IN THE RAIN, while leading most of the game. So, why not run the ball? Flacco took a lot of hard hits in last 2 games, un-neccesary hits, its not wise when Ravens have no reliable backup QB and it's a long season.
What we missing is converting 3rd downs, especially in short distance, and we need to run the ball EFFECTIVELY. Our running game is somewhat predictable? When we have Rice line up in the backfield, every defense knows whats coming. What is needed is a change-up the ball carrier sometimes, use Leach more and Pierce in short situations. It is called JUMBO PACKAGE and it has been missing since departure of Le'Ron McClain.

Four minute offense is different because you want to run clock. For most of the game that kind of conservative play-calling is what infuriated many of us last season and in years past. We have the talent to be an explosive offense, and while balance is still important, I like the emphasis we are putting on passing this year.

I have watched some plays more than once, but I'm yet to go back and check out the personnel on sack and throw-away plays.

I like the idea of keeping someone extra - preferably a lineman yet it could also be Leach, Bajema, Pierce, Dickson, or Pitta - back to block, having Ray Rice (sometimes chip and) run out for a dump-off, and letting our 3 wide receivers beat THEIR corners. With time to throw, someone should be able to get open for Flacco.

I also like the idea of having reverse fakes and hand-off fakes to Torrey Smith to get him something like a free release.

I might be biased here (as a fan of Deonte Thompson), but I only want to see 2 receiving TE's with a big lead or when they're in the red zone. Likewise, I'd prefer to mostly only see Tandon Doss in the red zone.

The most damaging no-huddle the Ravens can assault with - in situations where the pass rush isn't getting to Flacco - is Rice-Boldin-Smith-Pitta-Jones/Thompson.

A great way to counter teams switching to a 3DL-2LB-7DB set is to have Boldin or Rice in the backfield, and actually hand the ball to them enough to make that play-action work.

I'd be VERY interested to see Boldin, Smith, Jones, Thompson and Pitta on the field at the same time.

I've always felt like the short game should be easy for a team with physical receivers like the Ravens.

Wasn't ray rice averaging under 3 yards a carry?

All I want Cam is to work with Joe closedly on how to adjust in game based on the given defense. If our WRs struggle to get separation, draw them short slants, quick passes, and use more TEs in the middle: attacking their soft spots...Most important thing is mismatch.

As much as I want to blame Cam, our recievers need to hold on the ball better, our O-Line need to protect Joe, and Joe needs to read the defense better like more studying before the game and during the game.

Since we are stuck with Cam, our criticism is for the better of Cam anyway...

The tip for Cam is to get some advice from Caldwell who has tremendous experiences about how to attack the defense in many different ways....

The thing that everyone was excited about this offseason was how Flacco said that we are going to stop being conservative, and continue to attack the entire game, whether we have a lead or not, and it has gotten us to a 4-1 start and offensive production that we have NEVER seen in Baltimore before. Now some people want us to stop throwing so much? Lol....
We dont have to give Rice a certain amount of carries each week. We need to do whatever it takes to put points up. If that means Rice gets 5 carries or 30 doesnt really matter to me, just attack the defenses weaknesses.

I agree with Doing Whatever Works To Get A Win. But I also like to point out, we are 4-1, but we were very close to be 1-4, our last 3 games came to be decided in last minutes. I understand people are excited about our passing attack, but I'm concerned about some maycalling

While I will be at M&T Bank Stadium Sunday watching the game, I'm hoping to see improvement in offensive playcalling. Quite frankly, Ravens cannot use the same strategy they used in last 2 games, when facing Cowboys, and expect to win. It seems Cam Cameron gets sometimes 'carried away' into passing the ball on almost every down, even when having comfortable lead on the scoreboard. We need to convert 3 downs, which has been an issue lately. Everyone will tell you the Superbowl Contender teams have balanced attack, run and pass. I like our new passing attack a lot, but let's not forget there will be time when the effective running game will decide the outcome of some games and this could be the one against the Cowboys. I surely prefer not to have Cowboys having possesion of the ball in last 2 minutes with the game on the line, Romo is better than Weeden, Cassel & Quinn, so let's make sure to have the ball or the game in our control like we did couple of years ago when we Opened New Cowboys Stadium with A Bang of Whooping Them in their own house.

Most of you guys have got it down... Cam just doesn't adapt quickly enough, among other things.

Coaching does matter - I think Caldwell is doing pretty well so far.
We could use some strong O line help and remember the first Bengals game?
We looked so strong and really mixed it up!
Can we please figure out a good game plan where we actually surprise the opposing defense?

I remember last time we played Cowboys in Texas, in their new sold out stadium, all new glamour and shiny with their new big monster TV and high expectations. Ravens came in and opened a Can Of Whoop-[profanity deleted], taking a lead. All commentators at half time were debating about how Cowboys were great team and they will be making a comeback in second half, no words about the Ravens. We came out in 3rd quarter guns blazing, running all over the field, scoring points and totally demolishing their chances of making it a close game. They have shown people leaving their seats at the start of 4th quarter, I guess they have had enough, lol. The look on owner Jerry Jones face was PRICELESS ! I hope we can do it again soon.

Anyway, Cam isn't a bad cordinator, he is a good one. But he is too pass heavy. Flacco is emerging this year. Our offense has the chance to take us to the SB
(we will be favorites if our D steps it up).
The line just isn't getting it done. Thats why we are failing.

One of the things we have to work on as well is 3rd downs in the red zone. It seems like they always end up in a sack. We're not using our best red zone target Ed Dickson enough. I want to see 2 TE sets to give us the ability to either block for longer or to provide more big targets.
