Update: Brian Cushing tears ACL, Out for Season

20 posts in this topic

Still unconfirmed at this time, but many sources are reporting this news, including these beat writers for the Houston Chronicle:

Brian Cushing appears to be done for season with a torn ACL. Tim Dobbins replaced him. What a loss for the Texans' defense.

It does appear to be a torn ACL for Brian Cushing, but he is having an MRI tomorrow in Houston and [s]#[/s]Texans won't know for sure until then.

Would be a huge blow to their D if true. In any case I wish injury on nobody, so I wish him a good recovery.
That cat picked off Joe in the Eagles game. Ryans gets around.

In all seriousness though, this is a huge blow to their run defense. They still have Reed and Watt but they're better suited for rushing the passer, not run stopping.

Cushing's athleticism and range gave that defense the versatility to effectively play more like a 5-2 with one gap shaded techniques. Also don't let the 3-4 alignment fool you, JJ Watt might be dominant but he's no two gapper. It's a huge blow to the team if he's done for the season.

Well, on the one hand I feel terrible for them. I really like how they have turned that franchise around.

On the other hand, we have to play them without Suggs, so now if we were to lose this game, we cant say it was because we weren't at full strength

I never want to see players get hurt and feel sorry for them when they inevitably are, but that ends with the individual player.

Teams have to deal with this year in and year out. Next man up.

Hate to see players get injured, especially impact guys, but I was not sad to see the Texans come down to earth last night. They didn't seem to miss Cushing too much last night other than some of the run plays they gave up, but this makes me feel a lot better about Pitta's ability to get open in a couple of weeks.

P.E.D bodys have a history of breaking down after they come off the drugs. Shawne Merriman rings a bell here.
only Cushings body didn't break down. someone fell on him. That's a ligament tear for any player in the league more than likely

Update: Cushing indeed has a Torn ACL.
A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that Cushing’s ACL is indeed torn. It means that he’ll need season-ending surgery to repair it, and that he’ll miss the rest of the season.
