I paint my cars all the time. Not expensive at all if you do it yourself...about $300 for 2 QTS of basecoat and 2 QTS of clear. Another $50 on sandpaper, compounds and polishes.

If you dont have a spray gun or air compressor, can rent one for Home Depot for I think $100 for a full day...

So you can have a quality paint job with great paint for under $500...

Anyone have any experience with plastidip?

Looking at doing my emblems etc not anything major

Thinking about practicing on my truck first before I do it to my car...

Awesome stuff. People are painting entire cars with it lol....most of what I saw looks like asss, but that stuff would be great if you are just doing emblems and whatnot

Anyone tackle refinishing alloy wheels before? And I mean a full refinish with sanding pitting and curb rash, then wet sanding smooth, polish etc.

If you guys want to see some nice cars join the Hunt Valley HP Meet site on facebook.

I went to the first show a couple months ago and then the one last week. The first one was amazing; 800+ cars! Lambos, Ferraris, Godzillas, Mclarens, Jags, Porsches...more cars than one could believe.

The one last week was pretty nice; about 300 cars. A really cool, laid back 2 hours.

Here is a link of the cars that came to the last 2 meets:

Yup! Sure have! what do you want to know? A fine rat tail file, a dremel, assortment of sandpaper, Jewelrs rouge , compound , sandable primer (self-etching works) . Also, a mother power ball with high speed drill makes things easier.

I wouldn't say it would be quality job. Might look good enough, but with limited experience you're not getting a great product. If someone wanted to start trying though... hit up crazy rays for some practice parts. BTW.. you also need reducer, hardener , DA pads, masking tape , scotch-brite pads, tack rags, Flex agent depending on the surface.... there's really a lot to it if you want to do it right. Not to mention, the environment needs to be sterile or close to it. Also... if you don't want to get high as a kite... a respirator or mask at a minimum. Edited by H8R

I'd assume most DIY's will already have most or all of those things...but it doesn't amount to much money if needed

Painting isn't rocket science; if you can read a paint can label, wash and tape off a car, adjust a spray gun and run a DA sander, you can paint a car with decent results (assuming you're not painting your car in your driveway), especially if you spray a single stage. First timers should just buy a little extra paint to correct flaws and lay down a couple extra coats, since I'd expect they will get familiar with color sanding real fast lol

Id like to see one of these paint jobs you're pulling off. lol. The point is there's a lot more to it.. Practice ! It can be done, but acting like very one can do a quality job is just wrong. Maybe you're born to do it...

Go back to page 35; the red 300zx was painted by me in my garage last year.

If you look close enough, you'll see a couple paint chips that have occured since then, but for $500 in materials and a weekend of labor and drinking beer, I think it's pretty solid for a backyard paint job.

I think that anyone who can follow instructions can do a half decent job their first time; granted they will probably be doing a lot of color sanding to fix orange peel and fish eyes that we probably all got our first time, but if they put the time into it, the end result should be way better than the crap Maaco does, for the same or less money, and using better paint

Nice JK man.

Thanks man. Still planning out the build. Thinking 4" BDS and some 37's (already has a 1.25" body lift). Then new bumpers and some rock guards. Can't stand the bulky plastic bumpers on this thing. Then of course axles/gears are gonna be a concern, even though I'm not really gonna wheel it, but I don't want it to be a complete dog.

I hear ya on the bumpers. A lot of guys are just chopping the stockers, but as cheap as a bumper is for a Jeep, I wouldn't. Go down to your local Walmart and build that thing. lol.

4" Zone lift, .75" spacer for the front, adjustable control arms (front and rear), hi-lift, 37" Grapplers and 17" matter black wheels ordered. Ugh!!!

She'll be a dog until I regear, but a pretty dog.

At least it's a manual, so that helps a bit. My truck was actually pretty good on 35's and the stock 3.36 gearing. I did 4.30s just because .

5.13s by 2014 would be my guess. We'll see how things go.

Haha. There's plenty of Jeepers that don't even think JKs are worth a snot. I've heard it a lot on the forums. I like them personally. The Jk/U are Definatly more popular as mall crawlers these days
