Ravens now ranked #27

IN DEFENSE. Its time to step up.

We gave up +401.3 yards in avg per game. Never once has our defense gave up that much yards in Ravens history.

This is getting ridiculous.

First thing in the list: Blow out and shut down the Browns.

Next is Cowgirls where we really show our colors. Lets get our defense back on track

D-E-F-E-N-S-E!

Pees is the problem. Mattison 2.0
Our defensive line is the problem. Can't pass rush and stop the run when Ngatas being doubled, tripled teamed.

Cary has also done horrible.

Find us at the end of the year. Even if you don't like Pees, trust in Ray. No way a guy like that lets the O take all the credit. I've got total faith in our guys.

Yes, even Cary Williams.

Yup, Mattison had some poorly ranked defenses, didnt he? Oh wait.... (and with less of a personnel)

Pees is not the problem. The problem is we are missing our best player and have played 3 pretty good offenses.

I think as Baltimore fans we love seeing pressure and seeing our guys get after opposing quarterbacks, were so used to it, its the way we play football... and with Pee's it's all zone, and straight up defensive schemes. I wanna see some more organized chaos!!

I don't think you can blame a ton on Cary because if the QB is given loads of time to throw, he's going to make a good throw. The D starts with the pash rush and ends with the DBs.
Yea but Cary is always giving the underneath throw, he's like terrified of getting beat deep, and Brady abused him alot more than he did Jimmy.

Our DL stinks so.......lets rush 3 guys? Luckily he made adjustments vs the Pats or we would have lost.

Yeah this is pretty accurate. The thing with Cary is he almost always has good position, but he gets picked on with back shoulder throws a lot because he doesnt turn and locate the ball. He always plays the receiver and never turns to find the ball. The Pats also got away with a couple of push-offs on him. One was blatant and didnt get a call. Most of the big plays against our D came on blown coverage or lack of pass-rush allowing WRs to find soft spots in zones.

I think that was part of the plan. Play vanilla at first and ratchet up the pressure in the 4th quarter when needed.

I really believed McPhee would break out this year, but as of now he's nothing but situational pass rusher. I really miss Redding, but in a year or two he'll probably be done. Maybe even this year.
It's actually pretty disappointing because i was so high on him last year. I am just surprised at his play these first 3 games..hopefully he turns it around. But i'm going to go and give him a pass for the pats game because as you noted he doesn't play the ball so Brady was able to fit it into some tight spots.

This took the words out of my mouth.

No one is happy but we got some quality wins. Time to take it on the road. That will be our test.

We have a very difficult schedule and I always think the Ravens have a chance to win every game but it just isn't gonna happen. Make the playoffs is all that matters

Ive always said this as well, but I guess its cause a pick 6 or kick return would play a role in determining the rankings when they shouldnt. I do agree, however!

Pees needs to stop blitzing Webb all the time and let him lock down their #1 on the outside. Jimmy should be in the slot. And bring back McClain as the starting ILB because Ellerbe can't cover. Teams are getting all their yards over the middle of the field and on the edge against Cary. Use him in press more or have Jimmy start over him.

Hell no! Dude is lethal and causes more FF's than any other CB out there. Love him on the line!

I'm not gonna sit here and debate which aspect of Webb's game is more awesome. But I think he's blitzing too much. There's a point when it becomes too obvious. Pagano knew his secondary guys better and used them better. Pees seems out of touch with them.

i'm confident every one of our draft picks next year will be on defense. our offensive line has played lights out, we already have an elite RB, our WR core with Jones is complete, solid TE's, and a franchise QB. the only thing i can see is a C or tackle depth in the late rounds. other than that, it will all be about replacements for ray and ed, a complement to sizzle (if courtney doesn't work), a 3rd corner, and stronger Dlinemen to take pressure off Ngata. thats what it comes down to in my opinion....and a better coordinator. can we draft one? (sarc)

Yeah, not looking for a debate either. Too tired and I've become soft over the years on this board.

I'd want Webb or Pollard at the line at all times. Love when we have a DB in the box!

Meh... if anything, the most important (hard) stat about the Ravens defense is that they're ranked 15th in points allowed. The only drawback in total yards given-up is fatigue. Besides that, it is a stat people look way too much into.

Plus, this whole Dean Pees "thing": If you thought the Ravens were going to be implementing the same type of defense with Pees (as Chuck Pagano had), I'm sorry, because Pees and Pagano have two different mindsets. Just look at what he did in New England, with a very seasoned defense with lots of leadership and experience. It was a conservative-style defense, unlike the aggressive-style Pagano worked perfectly, last year.

That said, wait unit the mid-point of the season to see where Baltimore's defense stands. Plus, once the Ravens get back Terrell Suggs (and can take it easy with Lardarius Webb blitzing that often), it WILL be a different story...

Watched the replay tonight and Brady knew exactly when Webb was coming. I love it when it works, but I has the potential to go horribly wrong if it's not disguised well enough.

I was just about to ask that! I don't give two craps about yardage! You don't win ball games 450 yards to 350 yards. Yards don't win games, points do. So why do people worry about yardage?

I like them, but Pees has overdone it. Belichick and Brady were abusing our DB blitzes all game long.
