1 winning drive and the replacement refs.

Two things that I noticed in the one winning drives about the replacement officials:

The first was a Ray Lewis rant about the replacement official not standing over the ball and allowing the defense to get lined up, affecting their pass rush and blitz schemes.

The second is Jimmy Smith talking to Cary Williams and Teryl Austin saying "If they push off just hold them."

Cary was visibly upset.

Just thought it was interesting.
His name is Teryl Austin but that's not that big of a deal. And I came to the same conclusions that you did. The defense had to adjust to the referees and had to fight fire with fire. Cary's frustration was evident and a big part of it had to do with him trying to play a clean game and getting burnt as a result of it. The solution? Hold because they aren't calling it. I just think that speaks volumes to how difficult it is for the offenses to run their plays when defenses are getting away with what is essentially murder. You know it's bad when a player resorts to having to play "dirty" just to stay competitive.

I think that's what happened with Philly, they couldn't play man.

I don't mind them going to a more physical style of play outside the numbers, I just wish it were consistent.
Not playing man is in the defensive game plan. If you watch 1 Winning Drive: Highlights of 2nd Half (3:81 mark), you can see Jimmy ask Teryl if it's okay to "press them" now and he gives them the go ahead since they needed to be more aggressive and get a stop. It's still early but the defense might be adopting a bend and not break style of defense against these elite quarterbacks so they don't get beat for the home run pass. When you exclude the Welker pass, the strategy worked pretty well. Brady nickle and dimed the defense for all those yards.

I for one hate seeing our 6 foot 2 corners playing off their men because that is obviously not their style of play and hope that they let them loose in the coming weeks. We need to get some teeth back in our secondary. When we finally started to press their receivers at the line Brady started to throw many more incompletions and Webb got what should have been a game deciding interception. LET THEM PLAY THEIR GAME.

Wouldn't have been an int in any case. It was PI in my opinion, he was holding on to Welkers jersey as the ball was coming. Don't be a homer

I agree. Jimmy needs to improve his zone coverage. I still feel like he's going to turn into a very good player for us.
The contact was within 5 yards of the LOS. Even the Ravens haters on NBC thought so. It was a clean play that shouldn't have been flagged.

Wasn't talking about Int, just in general I was talking about Pushing off, contact, holding. The officiating effect on the game. They could have thrown a flag on every play if you want to.

I dont get what Ray was talking about. Explain?
Basically the referee is supposed to stand over the ball and allow the defensive lineman to line up. They didn't do that. And aparent the D had to adjust on the fly.

You are 100% correct. We are currently a bend but don't break defense and the guys are struggling because it's just not our game. Each of the first 3 games the defense struggled with quick screen type passes. The only team that able get the ball down field was the Eagles, but mainly because the option Vick presents to run. We got caught out of position in the Eagle game more then anything.

This game Brady just did a great job of taking advantage of the fact the D wasn't getting set, plus that bend but don't break style is exactly what Brady feeds on, because he's able to stay clean and scan the field.

Imo there wasn't much surprise that once our D was allowed to play aggressive like usual, Brady looked like his normal self against the Ravens. Even though the Webb call was correct, it still was a poor decision made by Brady to even attempt that throw. The Ravens confused Brady in the 4th quarter, just like we confused Dalton late in game 1 and the only reason Vick had his 4thn quarter success was because of that prevent style we played on the final drive.

Right now it's smart for the Ravens to play that bend but don't break style, because of the overall youth of the Defense. These young guys up front are starting to play better, and that will allow the backend to play their aggressive style they like..

I would be surprised if the defense didn't come out in attack mode against the Browns and have a game similar to the SF game last year. Why? Because there's not much to respect on the Browns offense. It's basically stop the run and make Weeden beat u

What do you guys think were the 3 worst calls against the Ravens? I'm just cureous. I think the 3 worst calls against the Pats were the Mayo PI call, the Spikes Holding and the McCourty Holding.

yeah players are definitely taking advantage of the refs, holding the receivers and stuff. look at the phily game. they held our receivers for almost 20 yards!

The 15 yards on Harbaugh, the Ed Reed flag and the holding they missed on Moore last year when he grabbed Pitta.

I honestly don't remember the bad call and am happy we got the W. No reason to worry with a division that has a team that has to choose between Sanchez or Tebow at qb and another with a wide... Rookie qb commanding the huddle.

The Reed hit wasn't dirty, those things just kind of happen sometimes, that being said those get called all the time with the regular refs, that's just the way it is in the NFL now. Blame Polian.
