Jimmy Smith is only in his second year i dont think no one should had expected him to be a shut down cornerback in his second year as a raven. Ladarius Webb didn't really step up his game until his third season in the nfl and the same thing can be said about Darrelle Revis. Jimmy Smith look good last year but you have to account for the fact that the pass rush was alot better last year,he had a more aggressive/ different defensive coordinator, and he's honestly getting more responsiblities now that he's step up to be the #2 cornerback .

I think all the mistakes Jimmy Smith is making now is something he can definately grow from and it sucks that he's making these mistakes but i expect him to get better

When he decides to throw out his mouth piece looking pacifier, it is the time for him to become a real man on the island....

And its confusing, because we have big physical corners who you think would thrive playing press. And we are getting burned playing back, so we might as well get burned for being physical, which we have both said, will also disrupt the timing of plays and help our pass rush. It should also wear the receivers out having that much contact play in and play out.

this is what i want to see from our CBs:

i've only been on these forums for about a year now but i'm sure you guys were saying the same exact thing about webby. technique doesn't come in one day especially when you're playing a style that doesn't suit you.

And Devin Mccourtney now is playing strong safety not sure if it because he suck at cornerback or not
No, he's not. McCourty is still at CB and has definitely bounced back this season, allowing just 17 receptions on 37 targets and a QB rating of 65.5.

Actually, this forum was in deep, passionate love with Webby his rookie year.
I can attest to this. Webb was probably the most favorable on these boards that year.

Please close this Thread, its a Joke.

How bout we talk about CB that really sucks, J.SMITH. He was supposed to be a shut down CB.

Don't want to hear how he is still new either. He is in his 2ND Yr and making mistakes that a LB that was converted to a CB would make. Its not like he hasn't been playing CB his whole college and N.F.L career.
So Williams gets a pick that Weeden threw god knows where that went right into Williams feet, and he's legit.

Save it man. Williams is terrible and 4 years older than Smith with less overall talent. They're both playing crappy right now but at least I can ride with Smith playing poorly because he's 23, Cary is as good as he's going to get now. That's scary.

Almost every series in the third quarter and some of the fourth.
The pats play call was run, run, pass to Cary. After I picked up on it, it was five times in a row.
Run, run, pass to Cary first down. Run Run pass to Cary first down.
100% correct. I would never guessed to say this but Cary Williams makes Chris Carr and Frank Walker looklike two Pro Bowlers! And I don't understand Dean Pees allowing this play over and over!? Come on! If we play the Squeelers same way we played the Browns, the game could be over at halftime! I hope nobody here expects Big Ben making mistakes like rookie Brandon Weeden. So I say, Fix It Now and if it means putting Chykie Brown or Corey Graham IN, so be it.

I'm actually surprised at how well Graham plays the ball and the receiver. He's always right on the guy he's covering and tackles them instantly.

Good call. In fact, my initial post was incorrect because he's already played 2 games at FS. I should've done the homework as I typically do. It's an interesting move, but it could make their secondary very formidable if Talib keeps his nose clean. Alfonzo Dennard has performed quite well as their starting CB in recent weeks. But it's a little surprising that they made the move before the trade. McCourty played very well at CB. Granted that Dennard gave them the flexibility. But Kyle Arrington is, well, Kyle Arrington.

Don't mind my previous post about the switch. I was mistaken. He has switched to FS in the last 2 weeks, though he did fare well at CB.

Jimmy has frustrated me too this year, but people are overreacting he is a young player ( and we don't have any QB pressure ).
Plenty of young corners go through their struggles, Patrick Peterson has been targeted some this year and I think he will develop into a stud, a couple years ago Mike Jenkins looked great as a Rookie and has seemingly regressed since, so has McKelvin of the bills. Jimmy is playing at similar level to many corners in their first 3 years. Devin Mccourtney great rookie year but 2nd year wasn't nearly as consistent in coverage.

Basically looking back at CBs drafted in the first round the last 3 years most of them have been inconsistent, with Joe Haden performing the best overall.
I get what you are saying but C.Williams is a good CB and to have people say J.Smith is better is a freaking joke.

2nd year players are fully developed all the time??? There's no such thing as a learning curve, and experience doesn't matter at al?!?!?! People who make that assumption are just plain wrong.

Webb gave up a lot of big plays his 2nd year, but became better for it his third year. Jimmy has to get the mental game down. He has to turn for the ball quicker, and don't bite so badly on the double moves, etc....

Do you honestly believe that those aspects of the game can't be coached up? Come on Perk, it's clear as day you're holding a grudge, and people are going to keep calling you out for it.
I guess im holding a grudge because people are saying J.SMith is better than C.Williams, it just makes me rage when anyone who watches the game can clearly see that C.Williams is a better CB.

Anyone who watches the game can clearly see Cary is giving up completions more often and in more ways than Smith.

They are both way to inconsistent. I say Cary is better than Jimmy because he doesn't bite on that double-move as much.

disagree.
Cary was targeted for more.
Granted Smith was far for good too. But in my opinion Cary was worse.
Yeah, but Smith can't tackle the grass. He constantly gets brushed off by receivers. It's almost too embarrassing to watch.
He gets owned on every play. :(

I dont have a grudge. Just being objective, and Cary has repeatedly given up completions at a greater clip than Jimmy. Part of that may be due to him playing opposite of Webb earlier and being the obvious target there, but to say Cary has been good and Jimmy is horrible is flat wrong.

Oh well i guess im wrong but when i went to espn.com i saw on the patriots depth chart where they had him listed at strong safety rather than cornerback

Cary Williams Has Been Awful , TEAMS GAMEPLAN TO GO AT Him , He Plays Too Far Off Despite Being A Big Corner , Hes Our Best Option Right Now Outside Of Jimmy Smith Who Is Reminding Me Of Chris Mcalister The Last 2 Games , As The Right Side Of The Defense Is Barely Targeted On Passing Plays , I Say We Give Corey Graham A Shot Or MAYBE Even Chykie Brown , Cary Isnt Cutting It Right Now .

Which brings the question.
If you are an opposing QB, to you play the odds and continue to throw at him or do you play it safe and throw at Smith ?

Jimmy's problem is that he plays too physical. He's been drawing quite a few penalties for his at times overly physical play. Also, he is quick to bite on receivers' moves, which gets him beat. The physicality is a good thing, but he just has to find a way to use it in a positive way.

Cary's problem is that he's insanely inconsistent. That, and he seems to enjoy giving WRs eight yard cushions. He's a big guy, so I just can't understand why he gives all WRs that he covers, even the small ones, so much cushion.

I have faith that Jimmy will continue to improve, as he does show some promise. He could develop into a good corner yet. Cary, on the other hand, will likely be inconsistent the rest of his career.

I still say give him the rest if this year and into next year, if Jimmy doesn't catch on then its time to look.elsewhere. Cary is becoming more of a ballhawk then a cover corner. So he might get burned some but he is on pace for about 8 or 9 picks do that does redeem his value.
Pretty crazy for a guy that hasn't recorded a pick in his career until this year.
