3rd and short

Ok I haven't read through to see if there is another thread like this if so, i'm sure the mods will merge it. But here we go.

Ray Rice- 16 carries for 99 yds yesterday. HE WAS GASHING THEM...yet we don't put the ball in his hands on 3rd down at all!

I swear they Ran the same 3rd and 2 play 3 times in a row yesterday..for 3 incomplete passes.


I am sorry that my post isn't really flowing nicely, but I'm still having trouble wrapping my head around this one. I'm not even putting this loss on Joe. Sure, his second half was terrible. But he DID throw what should have been a TD that would have sealed the game in the 4th quarter..called back by the official idiots.

Where were all of the different looks that we kept giving the bengals last week? Where was the "up tempo" offense in the 2nd half? It looked like once again the Offense went into a shell once we were up by 10 against a quality opponent..on the road. We payed for it..yet again.

Even though the defense was giving up yards, they were forcing Vick into mistakes and getting turnovers.

We SHOULD have won that game by ATLEAST 10.

We let the eagles off the hook yesterday and I feel sick.

EVERY YEAR we have a 3rd and 2 at some critical point, and we can never convert.

What's funny is, we have had the exact opposite conversation before. I remember some people saying they want to pass it more on 3rd and short because we couldn't get it on the ground. Which is it? In my opinion, they are both good play calls. They just need to be executed. Yes, I would rather run it on 3rd and short. No doubt. But I have no problem with passing it. A slant, or a swing, or a pop pass to the tight end could all work. Here's another thing. One thing Cam gets criticized for is predictability! What if we ran it every time on 3rd and short. They'd crowd the line, put 8 in the box, and stop the run. Then, the same fans who wanted to run it on 3rd and short complain about Cam's predictability and beg for him to start passing more on 3rd down. Funny how that works, isn't it?

The fact is, either play call can work but the success of the play is directly related to the execution. If the players execute, Cam gets no credit. If they don't, Cam gets 99% of the blame. How does that make sense?

My issue with the calls was joe was clearly not right and you still force him to go out there and get that, safer call was rice, and if he's stuffed he's stuffed, but I didn't think we could make that passing the way we were playing

I agree, pretty bad call and we would have won despite playing pretty poor in certain areas

No way Rice and company don't convert at least 2 of those 3rd and short plays. The Eagles interior line isn't exactly nasty and Leach has shown he's more than capable of taking out Ryans. Asinine calls in my opinion, completely asinine.

Agree! Leach has blown up P Willis. Dude is an animal! We were 0 for 8 (all passing) on 3rd and 4th and 2 or less! Really???????

Under center with a Back in the backfield and a fake hand off will do a lot to draw in and freeze linebackers.
