The Refs.....(Post Eagles Game)

222 posts in this topic

The people who think the refs don't impact football don't know how to count.

In baseball, your offense gets a minimum of 27 "possessions" unless you lead going into the bototm of the 9th at home.

In basketball, you get at least 93 possessions a game.

In the NFL, you get between 6 and 9 usually. You can't let officials screw up 2-3 possessions for one team, and help out the other team once on their offense. I...just can't take NFL or Goodell seriously (and for the latter, there are a lot more reasons).

I am the most passionate Ravens fan I know and I'm not even mad right now. The replacement officials have been so awful, it's illegitimized the outcome of these games.

I'm talking about Desean Jackson taunting, block in the back, hands to the face, HOLDING ONTO TORREY SMITH SO BAD YOU CAN SEE HIS PADS, taking back the Jacoby Jones touchdown. They can't get the numbers right, it takes them 4 minutes to spot the ball, and they had two two-minute warnings today.

What's really sad is, I've always thought the level of play was much higher on the NFL level than college. For the players, it still is, but I really have a hard time getting engaged in these NFL games because the officiating is SO HORRIBLE. I would seriously rather watch my Seminoles thump a team right now, than watch a Ravens game if the officiating is going to effect the outcome - positively or negatively - like it did today.

Jacoby scored a TD.. I'm sorry if you take one of the Eagles clean TD's away they would also lose. It was a close game and it came down to the refs, we got screwed but those the breaks. Winners make their own breaks but it is a shame someone had to came out on the bad side of a call to win.

I know its poor sportsmanship to blame the refs--but to blow the 2 min warning?? Essentially giving the Eagles a 4th time out. The mugging of the receivers? Having trouble spotting the ball more then once? Give me a break.

Ravens played bad on offense but the refss took the game from a sure lock win with the
Crappy call OPI.Eagles were acting like they just won the superbowl. The reffs won that game for them.

Someone start a petition or something.

I think they're trying their best, but it's hurting the game's integrity.

The offensive PI and intentional grounding really cost the team.

So what if they didn't play their best game out there, they still played good enough to beat the Eagles, which is all that should really matter.

The refs took it out of the player's hands, which is unforgivable, these guys just aren't competent enough to be officiating truly meaningful games.

I'm with you Prestige. If the real refs dont return soon whoever wins the superbowl this year wont be taken seariously by most fans. If the Ravens win it all I'll take it but you can be sure no rival will ever let us brag about it. We lost this game but man these refs are really awfull.

I agree, I think we did get screwed...I mean we obviously could've played better. But, the call on Jacoby and the non-call on Vick is what cost us the game. And poor play by Flacco on what should have been a game-winning drive.

The blatant non-call on the Torrey-mauling in the 1st half was ridiculous.
The call on Jacoby that took away the TD was ridiculous.
You don't think the fact that they got away with beating up on our receivers all day long had something to do with the inaccuracy of the passing game?
Anquan is one of the best in the league at drawing interference calls - those refs today didn't call s***.

The point is we played bad. We cannot control the refs but can control our play calling and game adjustments.

Exactly. I mean how many times had Harbaugh had to correct these clowns on field mangement and timing? Imagine their expertise on evaluating coverages

There were obviously some terrible calls. We played bad yes, but we also would've won if that Jacoby touchdown was good. Ravens need to get better next week so they don't put their self in the position to have a penalty screw us.

Cameron's play-calling was a complete joke.... How does a team go from what they did last week and look as terrible as they did this week. There was no hurry up or no huddle in that game what so ever. This game against the Eagles had Cameron crap all over it. You can see Flacco look over at the sideline several times with that "what the hell" look on his face. Todays game was a complete joke.

I do not even want to get into the refs.. I have never seen a more poorly called game in my entire life (and im 38). The no calls on both sides were piss poor. How does a guy get turned around when running down the field an not be a call. UNREAL..... If this is the way all the games are gonna b this year with the refs, the NFL just took a big step back.

The refs had a pretty horrible day. The game ran 40 minutes later than all other early games because of all the delays by the refs. With multiple ball spots, errors in penalties called or amount of yards to penalize from a penalty.

The refs clearly don't know, when they should call Illegal Contact or Pass Interference... The commentators even mention that a few plays on Asumgha were PI ( not Illegal contact ).

The bad fumble call on a clear incompletion, which was challenged and made into an incompletion ( But it should have been an Intentional grounding because Vick was not out of pocket nor did the ball go in the vicinity of a WR )

And the Offensive Interference on Jones cost us the game, and 3 replays show little contact by jones to warranty such a game changing call!!!

Overall long frustrating game to watch.

I'm done being mad. At least it l wasn't a conference game. On to NE next week. I will say though the holding on Torrey that wasn't called and the Jacoby td were game chargers.

Yeah I'm sure players fighting weren't a contributing factor in the game running over
And I'm sure injuries only sped up the game too

Forgive me if I'm wrong here, I'm still learning all the penalties and live ball/dead ball stuff, but I'm kinda confused here, and I was hoping someone could explain this to me.

My understanding of the tuck rule is that if the quarterback's arm is coming forward and the ball comes loose, even if it appears to be a strip sack at first, that is deemed an incomplete pass. It's not considered a fumble, right?

An incomplete pass that's nowhere near a receiver is deemed intentional grounding, right?

So when Ngata sacked Vick, and Vick's legs and arms came forward from the sheer momentum of him going backward, the balls comes out, lands nowhere near a receiver.

So by the rules, because his arm was coming forward, whether intentional or not, and because there wasn't a receiver there, shouldn't that have been intentional grounding and cost them some yardage? And since there wasn't a whistle, at least not one that I heard until after our guys dove on that ball, isn't that still a live ball and we have every right to take it? A few years ago, Redding picked a ball up off the ground and took it in for a touchdown. Why is this different?

Not the refs. Im tired of this blaming the ref talk, its pathetic really. Flacco could have won us the game but he didn't, thats that.
