MERGED: After The Game Impressions, Opinions

I knew Ray Lewis was still good, but I finally thought the age was getting to him, maybe he wouldn't have been in the top 5 LB this year.

But hot dog! He looked like he's the best one out in the NFL last night! I'm glad my doubts were cast aside, losing that weight seemed to help a lot.

I feel for him, then his counterpart Pitta gets all the glory..

Have you guys ever noticed that 90% of Pitta's catches result in him just falling to the ground. It's kinda funny. That one pass when he did get some YAC he still looked like he was stumbling and wanting to fall. Maybe he sees what is happening to Dickson and says heck nah!
I think that is because 90% of his catches are jump balls, just like Heap's used to be. That's the way to use a big TE. YAC is not their forte.

I am a 56 yo man that lives and dies with my Black and Gold. I have posted hear last year with a little bit of an attitude, but always wanted to let the fans of the RAVENS to know how much I respect your organization and players. NICE GAME...WOW Hope younze have a down week when we meet...heheh lol just a thought, I like your team very much, but LOVE MY STILLERS. Hope we can make it through the next 16 weeks so we might have some healthy players to put up a good game against you. Anyway, just wanted to post how impressive your team looked on Monday Night...you deserve the "attitude" that is sooo rightly EARNED.
Thanks, I think we are looking forward to it. Hope we all stay healthy from here on out and give each other our best games and may the best team win. Thanks for the respect!

The biggest takeaway for me is: take this with a grain of salt.

We saw this same offensive success in the first game last year against an arguably better defense, and then proceeded to wet the bed the following week.

I am encouraged by the fact that Joe is calling audibles, and that we injected some youth into our OL. They should only get better as the season rolls on.
As good as I thought we looked week 1 last year, this was just better. The Defense set the tone for the Offense to follow in last year's season opener, the opposite happened in this game. We scored consistently throughout the entire game in every quarter, I don't recall that happening at all last year. We only punted twice. The Eagles have a ton of talent which makes them a threat, their D will present a tough challenge for us. I'm optimistic that the offense has arrived.

Did Jimmy Smith play in this game? I only saw the second half and I saw Cary Williams and Webb, I noticed Smith didn't log a tackle or anything

Is this the Caldwell or Cameron offensive scheme we are seeing?

Inquiring minds want to know.
A mixture. Why do you all immediately assume that this offense is all because of Caldwell? The coaches work together and come up with schemes together. They share ideas. Caldwell may have shared some ideas with Cam. I also think that Cam actually has tools to work with now. Its a mixture of Cam, Caldwell, and the other position coaches.

Season Opener last season was about Defensive Dominance over the Steelers, the defense forced 7 turnovers which gave the offense short fields to score on, although the total offensive yards may have piled up it was without a question pounding by a defense that led to such a convincing victory last season....

This year the offense took the lead from the opening play, while I was still at work I was surprised that when I looked at my phone the score was 3-0 , 10-0, then 17-3 so quickly.... After seeing the score I had to check the stats on my phone and I was wow the offense is just getting it done right now, and I was 100% sure the defense would hold up finish I tight a game, but I'm glad I was wrong about the tight game lol

The difference is that the team was carried by the defense on that day. I believe we had 9 turnovers in total that game. This was a game where the offense carried the team early, then the defense stepped up to put it away.

Yes, I saw him in on multiple plays and the annoucers actually made mention that he was in, he looked pretty bad when (I think it was AJ Green) did a double move on him and he was no where near the receiver.

The first "pancake" on Birk was actually a trip, his right foot clipped Harewoods leg and he fell over.

Ray cost Reed his redzone interception by knocking one of his hands off the ball.

I have noticed that as well. Although, if I remember correctly, he is often the recipient of a throw made on the run it seems. Tough catches usually lead to not gathering your feet. Maybe it's just me though.

I loved the game last night, Welcome Back Ravens. Just 2 things that bothered me.

1) Matt Birk spending most of the night on his back
2) The way Flacco seemed to be a bit off and never led the receiver so they could continue to run after the completion. Well not always but a lot of the night. Guys were having to get out of stride to catch the ball.

On a side note:
The Bengals Defense can tackle can't they. They would stop receivers in their tracks and made them either fall back or turn them sideways. They will be a team to watch for in another year or so which scares me.. LOL !!

Other then that WOW to the Ravens and we miss you Art. Hall of Fame class act. Lets vote him in this year and stop holding grudges when they vote this year to let him in.

Oh, did anyone else here Gruden call Carey Williams an "Elite" Corner ? just WOW !! I love listening to Gruden do a game and really loved him on the sideline. Such passion and drive to win. Sometime i wish Harbs had the same passion as his brother. That guy wants to win so bad it seems like he is actually in pain when things do not go his way.. LMAO !!

I think we won decisively without playing our best. That is a good thing.

On a random note; I love me some Dennis Pitta, but why can't he stay on his feet when he catches the ball? Just sayin'.
Haha yes, he definitely traded his balance to the football gods for his hands.

I would like us to use Torrey Smith on more screen plays and slant routes. Him in the open field with his speed would be huge yardage.

would have liked us to use halfback screens last night when they stacked the line with 6+ pass rushers but then again i loved the reverses with torrey and jones. gotta like they're mixing it up.

Flacco played a great game. He had a couple bad decisions that probably should have been picked, but other than that he was lights out. Ray Lewis was incredible with 14 tackles and a FF. Ed Reed's pick six was the game clincher. I still think they have a bit of work to do on the pass rush, but overall I think the team looks really good on all levels.

we should build on the way our d played in the 2nd half and dont get too discouraged about the rest. our front 7 currently is young and inexperienced (outside of ngata and Lewis) and will take a lot of time to get used to even after suggs returns. that said, the run d is more glaring than the pass rush right now.

He had some rough snaps but he played. He was credited with four tackles.

Birk was disappointing. I watched him get knocked on his [profanity deleted] at least twice.

Cary Williams was good. He wasn't spectacular, but he made tackles, deflected passes and didn't give up many yards.

Art Jones is a beast against the run.

Webb fielding a punt almost had me in tears.

I loved seeing Ed and Ray covering the same guy in the end zone.

Not having a legitimate second receiver really hurt the Bengals, but Hawkins had a ridiculously good game, and could have gotten the Bengals some more points if it weren't for that flag football Ray Lewis tackle.

We need to improve against the run. Law Firm did a lot with a little against us, and he should never have gotten that touchdown.
