We need to rely on Rice less, especially early in the season. Keep him fresh in the playoffs, when it really counts.
I like how we put back ups in with 10 minutes left in the game!!! Keep em fresh!!

This is exactly correct. We'll need to adjust not only to who we play, but what evolves during the game to take what the opposing D is giving us. This will be the key offensive dominance.

As others have said, the decreased dependence on RR will not only serve to keep him fresh for when he is needed, but will also extend his career.

And I think our defense did a great job of adjusting last night after half time, I have faith that the offense will be able to as well. Good point about the longevity of his career as well.

Well, a little later than after halftime. That second half opening drive was scary, but the D brought it hard after that.

we're all acting like we play the same team every week though. Certain games rice will get 20+ touches when they have very poor run defences but exceptional secondaries *cough* the browns *cough* (with the exception of D'Qwell Jackson. Other teams like the Bengals have some pro bowlers on their D line, but a bunch of over the hill corners, an over rated former first round safety and some other guy I can't name. Rice will run a lot vs teams with poor run defences, and we'll pass a lot vs teams with poor secondaries. but obviously mix it up because this is the NFL and even the worst team would catch on eventually.

Ray Rice is still an amazing weapon. Even though we barely ran it, Cincy fell for the play-action everytime because they were 'scured' of Rice. Either that or they're just silly.

Ray is Joe's safety valve, whenever he is under pressure or his receiver don't get open, he fires a short pass to Ray, who gets him 5 yards or so, maybe even a first down. Rice became our top receiver, rivaling Boldin, this way.
He is the next step of RB evolution he rushes, receives, is a security blanket for the QB and protects him. Money well spend, regardless of the touches. He will have a huge year in this offensive look for sure.

Rice still played an intrical role in the game. His touches were very effective, but mostly his role in the play action. That got our receivers one on one more often and winning the match ups when they did. Awesome game by the offense, I don't really care how many touches one guy gets as long as we are effective. Ray will get plenty of touches, and as long as he makes them count when he does, we will continue to be effective.

It seems its been Marvin's philosophy for the last few seasons. To try and stop Rice, and let Flacco try and beat their defensive schemes. Flacco just whooped their defensive scheme's butt all night long.

If anyone gets a chance to see Rice's first touchdown again, watch Yanda get upfield and just pancake Rey Maualuga.

On the second Rice TD, Harewood and Oher chopped down their guys with cut blocks, then Yanda did a hop step to his left and combined with Leach to hammer whoever was still standing, with Rice following. Cut blocks followed by the two man lead blocking of Leach and Yanda is just a thing of beauty. It's like an artillery barrage followed by a heavy cavalry charge.

The Bengals were biting hard on play action all night, and laying off every time we actually did run Rice, giving him 6+ yards often. The playcalling and run blocking were working to perfection; it's great to see the run game can be effective if we do need to lean on it more in the future.

Leach taking Maualuga's legs out on the one run was hilarious, also. Rey's a good MLB, but we've put the pain to him the last two years.

Ray Rice is like Ed Reed.

Just being on the field, he makes a diferance.
Some one ALWAYS has to watch Ray Rice. Even if he sat down on the field and read a book, some one would have to watch him do that. He burns up their invintory.

[/quote]Lol that's brought a funny picture in my head.

I can picture Ray in the singleback set, ball is snapped and he whips out "Freakonomics" and just flips the page after page; meanwhile a D-lineman and a Linebacker are intensely spying him!
