Ravens at Eagles

So if we cannot use past performance as a measuring stick to gauge a team or players abilities, then how does this Iggle rate Cromartie and McCoy so highly. A guess?

My point is one game isn't a sample size to go off of. We don't know what to expect but I do know we are going into a stadium full of loud mouth buffoons who will yell, cuss and throw things at our players.

If cam thought our fans were loud when the offense was out there, he is in for a rude awakening.

(P.s. I hate when people yell and cheer when our Offense is huddling up. Only do if after plays or when D is out)

This doesn't happen regularly...

Listen,I`m getting way off the point and although I do still think the Eagles will win I would consider it one of their best wins of the year as the Ravens are a legit SB contender.
We`ll see come sunday
Bet you were predicting a blow out win versus the Browns too. Look, I'm not going to say that the Eagles don't have talent.. Probably as much as any team in the NFL.. But for whatever reason they do not get the job done. I'm not saying this game will be a complete blowout and the Ravens need to come to play for sure but I do not believe the Eagles are SB contenders in the slightest at this point. When I see their talent translating into sound offense and defense on a consistent basis.. Then maybe we will take being a potential contender. You are looking at straight talent... What you aren't looking at is coaching. John Harbaugh and Co. > Andy Reid and Co.

REALLY!...OK
No one every speaks of him.
Must be the best kept secret in the league.
Vick is going to discover that little secret on Sunday. I'll make an e-bet with you right now that Webb picks him off.
The fact that Webb isn't a household name yet speaks to the ignorance of the common fan, not to Webb's immense ability.

Anytime Nnamdi is back there, ya gotta be a little worried. I think it will be a close one.

Some of these posts about 34-13 Ravens , is just blind homerism. This is a quality football team we are playing, hence if we win, we will gain respect because they are an NFC favorite.
So when we beat the crap out of them once again, is that still blind homerism?

If we beat the crap out of them. Saying they are only gonna score 10 or 13 and that we will be in the 30s is a little ridiculous.

While I hope we do score that much and keep them out, I have watched too much football to ever underestimate a team. You guys can keep carrying on with the absurd predictions but we gotta go on the road and play a tough team.

I really want us to win this. Not only to prove that we have gotten over that "hangover effect" thing from last year, but also because I have a roommate who is an Eagles fan and he needs to be taken down a peg (as if the almost loss to the Browns wasn't enough) and because I love the Ravens. If both teams play like they did last week, this should be a walk in the park. But, the Eagles will be back at home and Vick could recover from whatever was going on last week. I certainly hope that isn't the case though.

Just curious, because I predicted we'd beat the Bengals 34 - 17, and everyone thought that was ridiculous too.

Maybe it's ridiculous to assume that every game against a good opponent will result in the score being very tight

Guys, the Eagles are a good team so I understand having faith in our boys coming out with the victory but to talk like this is a guaranteed victory is insane. When Vick is on, Eagles is a Top 5 team and their D has Top 10 potential and the fact that we are playing them at their house without Suggs at that....... makes for an interesting game. Major test for our young OLB's , major test.

Good point. I often predict close games just to cover my [profanity deleted] and not embarrass myself in case we lose. ^_^

The fact is that the eagles' d-line is one of the best (if not the best) we will face all season. This game is going to be a great test for our revamped o-line and for flacco as well since the stadium will be going nuts so we'll get to see how he handles the offense in such a hostile environment.

No team should be taken lightly in the NFL, not even the browns (which the eagles almost proved last week). So I have no doubt that this is going to be a tough game for us.

With that being said, I like the way our secondary matches up to their wrs and i like our d-line over their o-line. I think the key for both teams is the running game. Whoever is able to establish that will be able to take a lot of pressure off of their qb. The good thing with us is that ray rice is probably the freshest he's ever been after a game which will be huge for us.

There were people saying the same thing about the Bengals last week. Every team is not a tough/good/elite/quality team. You have to judge a team on its recent history, not its total historical record from decades ago. Nor on your "feelings" or fandom. A team that did not even sniff the playoffs last year and had a less than winning record (and recently nearly lost to the Browns) just doesnt worry me. Can we lose to a less than great team? I think the Jags proved that last year.

While I agree that no team should be overlooked, I am not concerned when we face one of these less than stellar teams. Based upon historical evidence, not fanboy speculation, we should win this one, and if we play the way I expect us to (and the Eagles play the way they typically do) we will win by a large margin. That is not homerism, that is rationalism.

Vick hasnt been "on" but one year in his entire NFL career. Great athlete, horrible QB and piss poor human being!

This game most certainly could be close, but its McCoy that scares me more, not Vick.

Cannot stand Michael Vick. In fact I haven't liked him since his year's with Va Tech.
So quite obviously I hope we paste him like we did Hines Ward last season. :D

I actually like the matchup of Upshaw versus Dunlap. I think Upshaw will get a lot more reps and I honestly believe this will he his coming out party. I do worry about the Eagles defensive line and linebackers against our passing game but I think we should run the ball effectively (unless they stack 8 in the box which is very possible).

I'm hoping for a recreation of week 1, but I'm fully prepared for a very Week 2 Cutler-esque performance from Flacco. I don't want to "think" or "assume" one way or the other which kind of player we'll see this week, but I'm prepared for the worst, just in case.

I can't stand the Eagles, living up here in DE (Eagles country) for so long, that's all I hear about.

Here's how I see this game. I think Oher should be OK matched up against Trent Cole, Osemele matched up against Babin on the other side though is what scares me. Babin isn't good in coverage, and is average in run defense but he's definitely a legit pass rusher. The GOOD news for our Oline is that they don't have a humongoid nose tackle that can over power Birk quite as bad as he was run over last week. The best way to slow down a pass rush is to keep them off balance, get the ball outside in space to ray rice, keep the tempo up and just wear them down.

On defense, I fully expect Reid to give Shady Mcoy the ball quite a bit more than last week, that will be a HUGE test for this run defense. I feel that we'll be ok though. If we can tighten up in the red zone, keep them to longer down and distance and force them to throw on 2nd or 3rd down, that's when Vick is going to give us a few gifts. Keep Vick guessing on where the Blitz is coming from and let him hurry into making a few bad throws.
I think our secondary matches up pretty well with their WR's, Jackson is fast but we've seen Webb handle Mike Wallace quite a few times now, so I'm confident there and again look for Ed Reed to bait Vick into a bad throw somewhere in the game.

As much as I can't stand the Eagles, I don't think we walk all over them. But I DO think we'll win.

Score? 28-17

They offer some very unique challenges. Now that the offense is in Flacco's hands more, he could easily lose us this game. But with a crisp game plan The Ravens can win this one but 10+.... But there is not guarentees in this league

This one will come down to early play calling and execution. The team can't get rattled and Flacco needs to show the same poise he did in the first game. If Cam doesn't come out trying to hurl it down field and focuses on loosening up the defense before deflating them we can win this handily. We need to mix Rice in early with some screens to negate the pass rush and keep the first few passes short to intermediate to tire out their d line. Pitta, Dickson and Boldin should have big games for the team succeed I think. We also need to hold up better against the run. The interior of their o line is their strength but we need to close holes fast.

And it's threads like this:
http://boards.philadelphiaeagles.com/topic/649656-stop-discounting-the-defense-by-saying-its-just-the-browns/
that scare the daylights out of me.

It is rather eye opening to see it put quite like that, just how dominant the Eagles' defense was last week.

And then there's these:
http://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/start/jay-cutler-joe-flacco.php
http://www.chicagofootballtalk.com/blog/jay-cutler-versus-joe-flacco

Yes, obviously the latter link is biased, but the comparisons made are still rather potent. Though I have to disagree about Flacco having the benefit of being in the same system for 4 years as a reason to criticize him for not lighting the world on fire in 2011. His system changed drastically in 2011. His #1 receiver, gone. His #1 tight end, gone. The offensive line was changing. The receivers were rookies, or injured, or couldn't get open. It was precisely the system surrounding him in 2011 that made it so difficult for him to succeed. But whatever.

The comparisons between Cutler and Flacco have been being made for a long time now.
The Eagles' D was objectively amazing in the season opener.

I don't know...

I'm just a bit worried. That is all.

We have a young inexperienced O-line, there were about two passes (some say 3, but I don't agree that this was on Flacco) by Joe that could've ended in Interceptions and there were still miscues in assignments. On the other side of the ball our defense looked good in the 2nd half, but the first half was very concerning, the Ravens have to get better at stopping the run, they looked tired and slow from time to time and I miss Sizzle already.
Were those mistakes minor, if you actually see the game? Sure. But, our guys still need to improve, especially on defense and our offense is still clearly growing and developing and nowhere near were Joe can carry the team from week to week the way he did against the Bengals.

I like our chances still. The more quotes I hear from Vick, the more I believe he is becoming a headcase, that cannot deal with pressure and expectations and the Eagles on the offensive side of the ball struggle with injuries. I still believe that the Dream Team Eagles are overrated.

24-17 Ravens.

This is a beautiful, beautiful thread:

To think, fans of other teams are calling Flacco elite and talking about wanting their franchise to trade 2 first rounders for him.

It was great to see that -- I am so sick of the Flacco bashers and it is great to see other fans acknowledge Flacco like that.

I love that. Thanks for sharing.

Can you imagine what it must feel like to be an Eagles fan right now knowing that your teams qb is coming off of his most interception laden year, just threw 4 against Cleveland, and now is going to face a fairly decent defense highlighted by a guy named Ed Reed?

There is a lot of bad grammar here...must be Eagles week.

It's funny you say that. I noticed the error as soon as I submitted it but for some silly reason, I couldn't see my post or edit until a moderator approved it. So I guess you can get on me for the grammar but it also wasn't fixed because I had to wait a day for my post to even show up.
