SteelerStorm

Before The Ravens franchise (who was your football team)

92 posts in this topic

Wanted to originate a post due to the late great Art Modell who passed away this week. The Ravens franchise has had a storied and very successful team since it originated in 1996. Being its considered still a young franchise, What team did you represent before the Ravens? Where you Steeler Fan? Cleveland.... How about Dallas. Looking for all input.

I was a Colts fan until they rolled out of town then I defaulted to the skins to keep things local.

I followed San Fran briefly as a kid, then I didn't really watch much NFL (being in Cardinals territory back when they were terrible didn't help) until I moved out here.

Yeah, I live in Cowboys country, but I've only been really into the NFL for about five years, and even before then, I knew enough to know the Cowboys are well...yeah. Saw the Ravens playing on TV in primetime, knew I had a team for life.

Colts fan until they left,
didn't root for anybody until we got the Ravens.
One X-Mas during the hiatus my in-laws got me a Redskins hoodie,
I burned it in the woodstove :)

Giants fan. Lawrence Taylor. Once he retired, I stopped following football for a while.

I kept playing Madden though -- and got hooked on the Ravens. That's when Kyle Boller was drafted, and wha-la.

I've probably told this story a bajillion (yeah, it's a number -- I looked it up!) times.

I was never a fan of football until my stepfather, who was an Indy Colts fan, read about the Ravens starting up in the paper. Now, I do not know why to this day he was so upset about it, all I can imagine is that he was a Browns fan before he became a Colts fan. In any event, it really got under his skin a bit and with my being in my rebellious teen years took on the Ravens as my team simply out of spite.

It took me a couple of years to actually figure out what the heck was going on, but I think I've got it all down now. ;)

Thank you, Malkavian.

You're welcome. No problem. Glad to see you sporting it!

~ Malkavian Raven
Where's the line?

Technically, I guess a Redskins fan? We were taught Hail To The Redskins in kindergarten, which was... doing math in my head... five years before the Ravens existed. So I guess a Redskins sympathizer pre-Snyder... hey, I grew up right outside of DC, it just made sense, you know?

Going off topic a bit there are fans that just follow a coaches career and follow around those coaches.. I know fans that were Marvin Lewis fans, Rex Ryan fans and when they left to be the Head Coaches of there respected teams fans that use to be Ravens fans jumped on those other teams bandwagons..

Growing up in indy and being too young to know any better I was raised a Colts fan in the Jim Harbs era. Then when i started really watching other teams I saw the Ravens in the Super Bowl and knew that was how football was supposed to be played. Been loyal ever since, it helps that it drives my family insane that i'm not a Colts junky like them

When I was younger I loved the Bears because on Super Tecmo Bowl could only beat my older brother with them sometimes the Steelers..... Greg Lloyd was my favorite player in the early 90s once Pittsburgh cut him the dislike really began for me lol

I still pull for the Bears but the Ravens are my undisputed Team

I am pretty young but my first team was the cowboys in the mid to late 90's. Then it was the 98 vikings who were always on nationally. Plus the vikings had my favorite receiver <MOSS>. I fell in love and started watching the ravens the year they won the superbowl in 2000. I was only 10 years old, but i loved them and stuck with them ever since. Never liked the skins even though they were on all the time.

No one in particular
First got into football with my dad being a Singletary fan and a redskin hater
So it was really just supported great lbs and anyone beating Washington.
First jersey I bought was in 97 and it was a ravens Eric turner jersey.
In high school I wore two colors under my pads.
Orange for tb hardy Nickerson or green for Philly Byron Evans

BALTIMORE Colts and Redskins it was an AFC/NFC team thing and I was a kid. I did not warm up to the Ravens until 1998 when I went to my first game, and by the end of the game we were PSL holders. Ravens all the way even when I move to FL someday.

I remember sitting in bed with my husband and baby when they announced the expansion teams went to Jax and Carolina and crying, I was not happy Cleveland had to lose their team for 2 years. It also became easy with the Ravens because hubby was a dreaded Steeler fan lol(hes from Western MD)

I was a Bills fan back in the early '90s and their four SB appearances days (because of my massive girlie crush on Jim Kelly and Andre Reed (hey anyone that went to one of the Pennsylvania state universities will get my attention!))

But was very happy when the Ravens came to town!

I really wasn't a fan of football until I came to Maryland. Since I lived in Miami I guess you can say that I was a bit of a Dolphins follower. Although it was great to see Marino play back in the day.

before being a Ravens fan I was (and still am!) a big supporter of my home town's soccer team - FC Corvinul Hunedoara (yep, you guessed it, from the latin's corvus); quite interesting story of a team starting back to 1921, city going back to 1265, and county (like the MD postcode there) going back to pre-Roman times. for all the history and facts there's always google search engine lol. so when I started watching american football I only had one choice - the RAVENS

Oakland raiders in the early 80's while in the military and the "Mighty Huguenot Falcons" when my son played in H.S. He tore an ACL/MCL and would have gone to Michigan so we didn't get in to football for awhile.

A close friend of my wife's was a Rutgers alum and would go on and on about some guy named "Ray Rice". My wife and I, my son and his fiance are monstrous Ravens fans now; first game we saw together Cleveland beat the Ravens in '09. I have a grand daughter now...and yes, she will be a Ravens fan too! Its a family thing with us...and I really love Maryland style crabcakes!

Colts until the midnight ride outta town, then Bills (I had ties to the Buffalo area). Bought my Ravens PSLs in '96 and never looked back.
