What a bunch of embarrassments to the human race. Who wishes a man to be dead? They put football over everything, and that's why they are the laughing stock of the NFL. I'm sorry, but that sickens me.
It is sickening, but ignore it. Acknowledging their ignorance is dignifying it.

When I saw the picture of Ray Lewis and Art Modell again dancing at the celebration of the Superbowl victory this morning it reminded me of this quote...

"...And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance."
The Prophet, Kahlil Gibran

My condolences to the Modell Family, the Raven Nation and the City of Baltimore. I say farewell with a heavy heart, but with sincere gratitude. You made it to the big dance Art, in more ways than one, rejoice! :baltimore-ravens:

My condolences go to the Modell family. I was born in northeast Ohio and as a boy would frequently attend Browns games in Cleveland. Do let anybody fool you, anybody, Modell took his team from Cleveland to Baltimore because some person or party did not want him in Cleveland. I went to prep school in Cleveland and know the city so well where my father was a Teamster. RIP Art Modell and thank you for the Ravens!

I think so as well. I did like this one though.

""For we cannot help agreeing, that no living human being, will ever yet be cursed with seeing, a Lombardi Trophy hanging through the Cleveland Brown's Stadium door. Quoth this dying Raven, 'May the Brown's see post-season glory, Nevermore.'"

I just still can't believe Browns fans are not over the move. On my NFL show earlier, I did a moment of silence for Art to pay respect to him.

The biggest respect us fans and the team is going to do for Art and his family is dedicate this 2012-2013 season in his honor, and play it from Start to finish... Like Ravens of 2000.

If Browns fans want to act like that, let them. I, for one, know that if anyone in the Rooney family or anyone on the Steelers (or Irsay and Indy for that matter) were hospitalized in critical condition, or passed away, I certainly wouldn't act like that. And I don't think anyone in the Ravens Nation would either. To do so I think goes against everything it is to be a good human being AND a Ravens fan. So there. Rant done.

On a related note, did anyone else see the condolences (serious, not sarcastic) from a Steelers fan on the Ravens Facebook page? Even with the rivalry, it still shows that there are things that go past football. And it shows just how far Art's impact on football reaches.

Found this on the WBAL site:

Contributions in Mr. Modell's memory can be made to:
The SEED School
200 Font Hill Avenue
Baltimore, MD 21223
The Modells were very charitable to many organizations, including sharing $5 million in 2008 to help start the SEED School of Maryland, a college preparatory boarding school in southwest Baltimore that has 400 students.
"He was very proud of what they did here, and again, it wouldn't be here if not for them. We wouldn't be standing here talking right now. So, it's a sad day in our history," said James Turner of the SEED School.
School administrators said Modell treated the SEED School children as his own, often asking them if there was anything they needed. The school was already in the process of building an auditorium in honor of the Modells.

I don't know if this has been brought up yet, but I would like the team to wear 'AM' black patches on their uniforms for this season. Without Art Modell there would be no Ravens.

The team will be wearing ABM decals on their helmets.
I heard that too, but then the Ravens twitter posted this decal picture: https://twitter.com/Ravens/status/244054973581762560/photo/1

I kind of like the Art decals better.

From Adam Schefter's Facebook:
NFL is asking asking each home team this weekend to observe a moment of silence or other appropriate gesture in memory of Art Modell.
I think I may have to tune in to the Cleveland/Philly game on Sunday for Sunday Ticket to see how "silent" Browns fans truly are.

Yeah I left a comment on Adam's FB status update and said that if Browns fans do not give a moment of silence they will be as bad as Eagles fans.

Here's the article: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8344634/nfl-modell-was-model-owner-many-ways

I'm sorry, but the rationale John Clayton uses to validate his blackballing of Art Modell from induction into Canton is infuriating to me. To deprive a man of an honor he is so deserving of simply because it "doesn't feel right" is the epitome of pettiness. The man was ran out of Cleveland and brought football back to a still grieving football city after being the victims of a much more despicable act (Mayflower ring a bell?). Unlike that snake Irsay, Mr. Modell brought his team to Baltimore and left the legacy, colors, and records of the Browns with the city of Cleveland so they could revive their beloved team upon league expansion. Something he didn't have to do, but something that reflected class and respect.

Without the efforts of Mr. Modell, professional football would have been smothered in it's proverbial crib. He modernized this sport we have grown to love and it is quite simply criminal that he is being banished from the halls of a place he helped build. The sad reality is that John Clayton is not alone in his sentiment. There has been an ongoing campaign among people to prevent this great man's induction. It was shameful that he died without seeing his legacy vindicated with a bronze bust in Canton. To continue this campaign following his death would be simply despicable.

These grown, and supposedly mature, adults need to reign in their "feelings" and give this great man the recognition he rightfully deserves.

That is all.

I agree. I posted something on Twitter about how they should get over it and Browns fans came out and blasted me on Twitter. Wonder how they would feel if someone told them that they are happy that a family member or someone close to them died. I bet they be hypocrites and get pissed off.

Last month, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said it was expanding its own layaway program after seeing high consumer necessitate instead of layaway during mould year's winter break season. Its untrained program command last a month longer than matrix year's and determination group more items than the toys and electronics featured model year. But there is smooth a littlest win necessity and a $15 recompense for the purpose an uncovered account.

baby toys reviews Toys R Us introduced its layaway program in stores in 2009 for bigger items like bikes, dangle sets, and pit oneself against kitchens, and has added more categories each year. In 2011, layaway was expanded to comprehend all items at Toys R Us and most items at Babies R Us.

Toys R Us, based in Wayne, N.J., has 874 Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, as genially as 625 global stores and 145 licensed stores. It also operates the FAO Schwarz store in Different York.

"We proceed to look looking for ways to escape our customers stretch their budgets, and next to enchanting use of this sovereign layaway choice, they can navigate a series of insufficient payments concluded continually, as they begin to regard as give what might be on their children's time off desire lists," said Troy Rice, top banana frailty president on stores and services at Toys R Us U.S.

Ravens fans should understand Cleveland fans anger since they went through the same thing with Irsay and the Colts.
Browns fans should understand Baltimore fans love and respect. I am sure alot of them were relieved when the Browns returned.
But Art Modells contributions to the league outweight both. Serving as the preseident of the league, being instrumental in the leagues first Collective Bargaining Agreement, the AFL-NFL merger, the creation of "Monday Night Football" and more.
He should be in the HoF.

For those of you complaining about Cleveland... stop. I'm sure back then that if the Internet was what it is now, we'd have a few unkind words about Robert Irsay.
There are huge differences between the moving of the Colts to Indy and the move of the Browns to Bmore, There are also huge differences between Robert Irsay and Art Modell. While i was not born when the wheels were really set in motion years before the Colts left and i was almost 5 when they did. Robert Irsay did everything he could to provoke and anger Colts fans to quit coming to games driving down attendace. Robert Irsay never even bought the Colts, he actually bought the LA Rams. and traded teams with Carrol Rossenbam as he wanted out of Bmore himself. It is well documented that Robert Irsay was a drunk .....and an angry drunk at that. There is video documentation of berating fans and he just general bad attitude about Baltimore. Everybody that was too young to know what really happened needs to do research on the internet like i did to find out what really happened. While Irsay was a bad man. The city of Bmore and the state of Maryland forced his hand in the end for the quick middle of the night move out of town. They passed laws to take his team from him under eminent domain laws earller that day but it was also his actions and threats that forced them pass those laws too.

Art modell on the other hand with the move of Cleveland was put on the back burner by city of Cleveland. they spent their money building the Indians their own stadium, Rock and Roll hall of fame, and a new arena for the Cavaliers. Cleveland municipal was property of the city but leased completely to Art. The Indians paid rent for the stadium and by building the Indians a new stadium they took away most of the money that was needed for Art to keep the stadium in working order. That stadium was old and quite frankly falling apart, in other words a money pit. Art never berated or provoked any fans . From what i have read and remember about what went on at the time Art was very upfront with the city and fans about his situation, and what would happen if he did not he needed as he was going bankrupt operating his team in Cleveland.

Ultimately I don't think Mr. Modell ever really wanted to leave Cleveland. That is where he lived his life, raised his family, invested his time and charity to the community and made his fortune for for so many years. . Mr. Modell did what he needed to do to protect his family and his business. In the end though I think he was happy with his decision to move here and i thnk he felt truly appreciated here.

Thank you Mr. Modell for bring us our Ravens, Thank you and your wife for becoming a members our community .and continuing your charitable ways here just like you did in Cleveland.

Rest in peace Sir

I will be the first to admit that I never liked the man that much any longer after he moved the team but I also will be first to admit that I respect all that he did for the NFL. He did what he did with regards of moving the team and people can say he had no choice or that he did or whatever else.. bottom line is it's well past time to move on. What happened happened.

What DOES sicken and sadden me is that the Browns had planned a small simple "over the PA system" tribute to Modell tomorrow for their home opener and they have now cancelled it at the request if Modell's son. So essentially Cleveland is the only team that is NOT honoring Modell in some form or another tomorrow. Apparently there was a lot of local backlash once it was announced Cleveland would do something for Modell and having the team have to cave due to that and Modell's son fear of something bad happening is just sad.

I don't blame Modell's son for this request it's just unfortunate he felt he had to make it. I honestly cannot blame him though.
