Two Orioles Questions

I know we have a running Orioles thread but I wanted to get specific answers to two questions from our hometown brothers and sisters away from a general/game thread.

I could ask the question did anyone predict the O's would have the season they are having, but I wouldn't believe anyone who said they did. My questions are:

1. Do we actually have a baseball team here in Baltimore that can not only reach the playoffs but are good enough to actually win a World Series? I am not trying to get ahead of myself but I see something special right now and I believe we can.

2. Will Baltimore truly get the old "Oriole Magic" spirit and paint the town orange if we get that far this year or will it still take a lot of winning seasons to get back to the type of Oriole frenzy like in 1983? I believe there is a buzz in our town but I am still longing to see more. Maybe I will if we are in the World Series.

I would just like to get others thoughts and opinions.

As much as I had hoped we would be good at the begining of the season, I did not picture anything remotely close to this.

They sure helped me get over the AFC championship game fast, also made the football offseason fly!

But until we're done playing this season, my attention will we around 55/45 ish Orioles over Ravens.

[/quote] It has been a little more difficult to get into the mood for football the way the O's have played so far...usually by July i am in football mode but i am sure by the weekend i will tuned in.

1. The team has a couple holes but as long as our pitching holds up and keeps giving us quality starts (holds the other team under 3 runs and pitches at least 5 innings) i think we have a shot against any team. I'm not trying to get ahead of myself and think about the world series, because we technically still have to make the playoffs. But I think (and hope) we'll be in the playoffs and I think we can beat the yankees, the rays, the tigers and the white sox in a series. The only team i am scared of is the rangers, for obvious reasons. It's gonna be tough to get out of the AL but I don't see it as a pipe dream anymore. Our guys are hungrier than ever, especially adam, markakis, reynolds and wieters. We have a bunch of quality starters, chen, gonzalez, britton, saunders, tillman and hopefully hammel can get back to his early season form. Our defense has shored up in every position now (with the addition of machado, mcclouth and the emergence of reynolds at first) which is huge. I almost forgot to mention our amazing bullpen, but buck has managed them really well and despite a couple goof ups, i still have faith that they'll be able to shut the door with a lead late in the game.

2. I think a playoff run will really help in painting the town orange. If we don't get into the playoffs, a lot of borderline fans will think "same old orioles" but if we actually get into the playoffs, even if we lose in the first series, I'm sure we will see more Os stickers on cars and more people wearing Os stuff. I already see far more people wearing Os gear but i wanna see more
