Jamison Hensley?

I love Rob Riggle! But I gotta agree, that was a terrible role in Stepbrothers.

I liked it when Hensley picked the finishing order for the AFC North a few weeks back and blatantly said "I'm putting the Ravens 3rd so I don't come across as a Ravens homer and putting them 2nd would be considered 'too safe' "Hahaha, is there such a thing as playing it "safe" in columns completely based on your subjective opinions? And I also agree, James Walker is still 5x the columnist that Hensley is. I used to love reading the AFC North blog, now I go there a couple times a week to chuckle to myself about how bad it is.

I didn't think iit was terrible. I believe that was the scene where he told dale he didn't like his face and he wanted to rock him right in the kisser lol. That's feel about Hensley lol

I'm going to hop over to the other side of the fence and defend Hensley on this one. I do think he has a negative bias toward the Ravens but he's just playing the game--it's all office politics. Jamison is a sports journalist with a reputation as a solid Ravens reporter. Not spectacular when it comes to building relationships and getting scoops (many of you will remember last year before he moved to ESPN he was constantly posting misinformation from bad sources) but a good writer and a likable personality.

So he gets his shot at ESPN. Remember, the division you cover directly determines the profile of teams, players and coaches you get exposed to. I would argue that in the AFC (and the NFC as well), the East is the most prestigious post and thus Walker gets it because he was great as the AFC North blogger and has tenure. Hensley's the low man and is trying to get there so he has to pander to his base which (as sad as it is to say) is Steelers fans. As someone mentioned before, Walker didn't have this problem because his roots were with a crappy team. The guy's just trying to earn his stripes and I can't blame him for that. And honestly he's nothing like Bayless who makes baseless claims, Hensley just takes the downside on most Ravens-related issues. He still demonstrates an intimate knowledge of the team, but puts forth worst-case scenarios rather than best case.

Once he is established I imagine this will change.

It's his attempt to show ESPN and everyone else that he's cut his ties with the Ravens... I'd say he's more negative about McKinnie than the team as a whole though.
What Ferrari stated. It seems like when you go to ESPN, it's time to begin your usual Raven bashing.

I see he also picked the Ravens to not make the playoffs this season.

Yup, pretty ridiculous if you ask me. Obviously we are biased cause we are Ravens fans, but just because Suggs is injured, doesn't mean we miss the playoffs. It will hurt, but it won't make us miss it. And that's his main reason.

Why is everything he says regarding the Ravens so negative? This is his latest article/blog regarding the McKinnie event today on espn.

he talked on 105.7 yesterday. i couldnt stand hearing his negativity and even worse, HIS VOICE. He will never be a live sports caster. Stick to writing Mike because you sound horrible

I was actually at Bob Evans perusing Hensley's column on my phone a while back when he and his wife walked in. They're both extremely nice and I very much enjoyed talking with them.

I don't agree with everything he says either (he never had Tucker making it past training camp, for instance.) But that isn't fair.

Being wrong on who he thinks will make a team is. It anything I judge him on
Hanging his hat in the fact that he used to be a beat writer for the ravens while not understanding the team in blogs is another.

With walker we learned things and got insight into the team because he was there at camp
With Hensley it reads and comes across like sphe is reading other people's opinions on ravens camp and makes a post about that
No insight.

Hensley, for the most part, is a straight shooter but he occasionally makes hyperbolic statements and panders to the Steelers fans who are in the majority on the blog. Obviously, you can't simply replace Jonathan Ogden, especially in the 5th round (Gaither) or a career under-acheiver (McKinnie). That would require a top ten pick and incredible luck.

If you flip the order of comments to "Oldest to Newest" you'll see my comments from when the article was posted. He's got something of a thin skin but clarified his post at least.

McKinnie isn't the answer we need at LT but that doesn't mean the organization should be chastised for not having another pro-bowl LT. That'd be like calling the organization out on not finding another Ray Lewis when all our ILBs are undrafted. Yes, Gaither didn't work out in the long run, but is it the FO's fault he struggled with back injuries? I think he was pretty damn good when healthy. Then McKinnie was pretty good for a guy who was released. How about a little credit for making the most out of an unfortunate situation? Instead of calling out a team that's been routinely drafting at the ends of rounds for not getting a guy like Kalil, Thomas, or Long. Elite LTs don't fall to our draft position anymore.

Hensley actually posted something nice about Flacco. I wonder how much of that is because Joe is playing like the top qb in the AFC

Didn't want to clutter the board with a new thread, but I thought this was worth noting on the latest Byrne Identity (regarding mainstream media and how they generally treat the Ravens):
The Media Parade[background=rgb(225, 227, 228)]
At the end of a nationally-televised game, the winning team is required to immediately complete seven interviews on the field. For last Sunday's game, these interviews were conducted by NBC-TV, ESPN, the NFL Network, our local radio partner (WBAL/98 Rock), national radio, national Spanish radio and our local TV partner (Comcast).[/background][background=rgb(225, 227, 228)]
When our game-winning drive started with one minute, 55 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, NBC's Michele Tafoya, ESPN's Sal Paolantonio and other national reporters were huddled near the New England bench ready to interview the winning Patriots. The group didn't budge when Joe Flacco opened the drive with a 24-yard completion to Jacoby Jones. You could see a little movement from them when Joe hit Dennis Pitta for 17 yards to the New England 35 with 1:21 on the clock.[/background][background=rgb(225, 227, 228)]
By the time the interference call on Jones on the 7-yard line was being announced with 52 seconds left in the game, the media group was in full sprint around the outside of the field heading to our bench area.[/background]
[background=rgb(225, 227, 228)]There is no doubt that watching that group of reporters run to our bench was one of the best sights in our business. We were very happy to see that stampede and ready to comply with any requests they had.[/background]
The media assuming that we would lose? Go figure...

If I were them, I would've just told them to interview the losing team...
