You guys are forgetting we might not have a starting calibre left guard, Bobbie Williams ankle isn't healed. I seriously hope this isn't true.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. The FO is clearly looking for more cap space. There has to be a reason right?
They have something up their sleeve. You don't release a guy that you currently have space for on the current roster. Especially when our depth at Tackle is spotty.

Either they got fed up with McKinnie's antics or they are trying to free up space for a move.

Not sure how I feel about this, because this means that Oher is now our LT...

McKinnie is over the hill, and was just a stop gap, but the timing of this sucks.

If Oher can finally step up and if KO plays to his potential, this will turn out to be a great move. But, that is two more "ifs" than I'd like to have at the OT positions.

Baltimore Sun text JUST said they are in contract disputes and MAY release him. Wondering if they are delayed or someone jumped the gun...
Well considering that Bryant McKinnie tweeted out that "I'm Gone". I think its a done deal.

So we worked this guy into shape paid him a bonus, and cut other guys to keep him on the roster, only to cut him and let some other team pick up a viable LT for a season or two?? Sweet :229031_rant:

This. mcKinnie wasnt good last year...and this gets KO on the field which is a very good thing. Our line gets younger and more athletic. This also frees up cap space to potentially go after a pass-rusher.
I'm all in for a pass rusher but how does the OL get younger by now having Bobbie & Birk starting? We are now relying on two aging players.. one who just got off an injury to last the entire season with apparently no depth.

The timing of this really sucks. Maybe they are close to a deal with Joe and need to restructure McKinnie's contract, but that is just speculation. I have very uneasy feeling right now about our o-line.

Yeah, just wishful thinking on my part, I guess.

I hope the Steelers don't have the cap space. I know their o-line is a mess.

So what are the chances that McKinnie ends up with the Steelers. They desperately need a stop-gap LT plus McKinnie knows our playbook. Seems like a no-brainier for the Steelers.

I don't question the move, I question the timing of it. How exactly did he make the final cut then if the team most likely knew about trying to restructure his deal in the immediate future(which I'm not sure how you do with one year left on a contract)? If this move was going to be made, it should have been done when he showed up late to camp so that young guys like KO, Harewood, Cornell could get some more of those valuable reps that McKinnie basically just wound up wasting...

The only way this makes any sense is if they needed the cap space to give Joe his extension.
It could be. But I truly think they let Joe play out the last year of his contract. He wants top 5 money and the team currently wants him to show them why.

Interesting. I think the move is bad considering our in-division rival needs Tackles.

Didn't he get about $300k incentive payment around Mar - April time frame?

Maybe McKinnie realizes that he should at least think about things before a final decision is made?

Or maybe cooler heads prevailed.

KO held his own against Long, did you watch it?
Hes a rookie, a rookie that made Avril look downright silly aswell.
I like Osemele dont get me wrong i just dont think he is ready at Tackle from watching the rams game he gave up 3 pressures and a sack to long in one series. i watched long beat him multiple times. this is all IMO he is promising but not at tackle right now maybe later in the season but i hope im wrong.

There has to be something in the works, I can't see them making this move UNLESS we picked up another FA and a SOLID performer.... Why wait until now???/ A week before the season? Maybe they figure Brian figured it out enough in a week to get our O-line scheme down? Hmm.... Is Marcus McNeil healthy????

Yea that would probably be the worst case scenario right there. Ouch, it hurts to think about that possibility and given the shape of their line, it could be a real one.

Jake Long is a really talented player and easily the best rusher he faced all preseason so I wouldn't read too much into it. I'm concerned for depth reasons. I don't trust Williams to last all season at left guard and Osemele would be perfect to replace him there but now if he is playing RT that's not an option. The thought of Reid, Harewood, or Gradkowski playing LG does not sit well with me.

could just be his negotiating, acts like its over and walks away. Awaits the Ravens to make a move or waits for other teams to call him.

A shocking turn of events for sure. I hope we retain him. Next year his butt will be to the curb but for now we need him. I'm not too worried about starting Oher/KO at Tackle but if one of them goes down we'd be devastated.

He's been tweeting cryptic messages about a 'decision' for the past couple of days so I assume they've been negotiating since then. I ain't the biggest McKinnie fan but I hate the timing of this!
