Getting all my ducks in a row for the annual pilgrimage to B-More and had a quick "walking around town" question (since we normally stay much closer to the harbor or the airport).

We are staying at the HIE at the Stadiums and all my buddies tailgate nearby at the corner of Ostend and Wicomico. Obviously since its within a few blocks, we are just gonna hike it over from the hotel to the tailgating.

My question is, with the industrial look to the area, are we safe walking up Bayard St and just making a left on Wicomico and following it to Ostend?

I know its a short distance to walk and probably a silly question but WE ALL know how quickly things change from block to block in Baltimore as far as safety is concerned.

Im also assuming we have nothing to worry about walking back to the hotel after the game....its straight down Russell St and Im sure they'll be TONS of people in that area.

Thanks in advance!!!

Prior to the game should be okay. If in doubt, follow and move with the crowds.

So you think walking back after the game merits a cab instead?

Not at all. There should be a fairly large crowd and there are cops everywhere directing traffic.

Don't worry. When is the last time you heard of a home fan having a problem at a game due to random crime. Ravens games are big business to the city. They protect that investment. Your be fine.

Im not asking if Ill be safe at the game. Im asking about a specific area of the city.

I assume you mean walking down Bayard and then right on Wicomico if you are heading towards Ostend?
If so, you will be fine. We also tailgate in the grass lot on the corner of Wicomico and Ostend.
Wicomico starts to fill with fans (free parking) 5 hours prior to the game. So, you will be around 'family'.
Bayard is actually not bad and we come in from the west off Washington.

If safety is at all a concern why not just walk Russel north to Ostend and then turn left towrds Wicomico?

Plus, having a CCW helps too. :P

Yes, I meant right. Sorry about that. Thanks for the info.

Advice from my son, who once lived a few blocks from where you plan to meet your friends for tailgating: don't walk along Bayard & Wicomico alone, especially at night.

Hi, We live in palm Springs California and this HIE is our hotel of choice....Couple of hints, dont pay for parking in their lot (except for game day, we usually go there for 4 days and we park on the side street for free, again perfectly safe.

All the police working the stadium detail have a parking lot there!

We have probably stayed there a dozen times so far.

I am giving you first hand advice on what my family does a couple of times every year!

Take the road behind the hotel (bayard?) and walk to the stadium, There is a good bar back there, once again perfectly safe.Once you dead end after the Railroad tracks at ostend make a right and go over the bridge to all the festivities

On the way back from the stadium after the game all the vendors are 1/2 price and you get delicious Hot Dogs for 1.00

also more people walking on bayard than Russel st by 500 to 1.

Good place centrally located...enjoy...

I appreciate the info and you are spot on. Unfortunately, I attended the MNF opener so this info is way late, lol.

The bar is called The Warehouse, right? We walked past because I thought I could buy beer at a nearby gas station. I forgot that doesn't happen in MD. I've lived in FL for years now.
