Key word there is expendable. Not bad, not great, just expendable. What is Gorrer's ceiling? 3rd CB? We've got a 2 guys ahead of him with either more or equal upside, and 2 guys behind him with more. Also, I think it's underrated what we lost on special teams from Cook. Ihedigbo was brought in to make up for that not to replace -with- Considine, not to replace him. And we got the added benefit of adding depth at safety so now we don't have to worry about seeing Considine out there out of his element.

In fact, the more I think about it, the more I really like this move. Improved safety depth and special teams without sacrificing much if anything.

PS- To all those that say Gorrer "Shut Down" Santonio Holmes... really? A wet paper bag could've shut down Holmes the way our D-line was playing in that game combined with Chuck-And-Duck Noodles McSanchize at QB. In fact, by the end of the season Santonio was shutting HIMSELF down :229031_rofl:

If Considine and/or Chykie Brown looked incredible in practice or something and Gorrer did not then I am fine with the move. While cutting this guy may seem stupid to us, we must remember that we don't see all the practice time like the coaches do.

Props.

He is a good kid. Got to see him play in college @ A&M. Thought he worked hard and did what he could to help the Ravens win. Sorry to see him go. I wish him luck.

In all honesty going into this season I figured the top 3 corners were safe then Asa Jackson since he was drafted fairly high would be safe... But I ranked Gorrer above Jackson and Chykie Brown, figured Corey Graham to be mainly a special teamer and play dime packages......

I felt last season that Gorrer proved his worth on the field, he played well. Should have cut Considine
i feel like we could have at least traded him for a late round pick....

I would have accepted a trade better then this but i still believe this was harbs looking out for considine but i think john can teach anybody how to be a ST player and i feel like that has him picking up all these ST players and letting go of other playing time players

I feel like we let go of a top prospect with a lot of upside for no good reason. This isn't baseball but you know what I mean. He was one of our top young developing players.

I bet Colts grab him.

Gorrer ended last season with about twice as many deflections as he had completions allowed. Even with limited playing time as a dime back, that's impressive for a practice squad player. He's got more upside then Sean Considine, whose head is apparently more fragile then an egg.

In my opinion you're overrating the impact Gorrer could've had and making blanket judgments on Considine based on a couple preseason games.

Considine is a backup safety and a proven special teams standout. Gorrer is a solid corner and an average special teamer.

Corner is deep. Safety and ST are thin... I fail to see how this was not a logical move... The only way it appears as a bad move is if you're basing Considine's entire career on this preseason--which is honestly kind of silly.

I'm not sure why that is so hard to see...

Just like you trade from your strengths to upgrade your weaknesses, you cut from positions where you are deep to add talent elsewhere

My only problem with this is that we let go a young speedy competent corner who was just scratching the surface in the league and decided to keep someone we know is just a back up safety in considine. Ihedigbo is essentially the same as considine so i didn't see why it would make sense to drop gorrer instead of considine. I understand that we have young corners in asa jackson and chykie that's why its not a huge deal but my thing is, what if we need one of them to step up this year due to injuries. I feel more confident with gorrer at this point but hopefully it doesn't come to that.

I believe the question of this move stems from the choice to bring in and retain an older seemingly weaker athlete in Considine who appears on the decline over an up and coming younger athlete that has proven himself to the fans and team. When Considine proves himself he will be accepted, he hasn't done that yet. Their are other team members to question too, like Kindle, Jah Reid and Tyrod Taylor it just so happens this move is the most recent so gets the immediate attention.

How is Considine still on the roster, but Gorrer's not?

Considine is terrible and a walking concussion.
[/quote]

Yeah...Harbs is playing favorites from Philly days. Considine needs to be cut, so upset Gorrer isn't on our 53.

Its the logic thing again. Instead of thinking logically, we like to think unreasonably in an attempt to defend the players that we have man crushes on.

Gorrer was a solid depth cover corner. Good technique, good effort tackler but not a big hitter, etc. He looked like he would follow the C.Williams model to success from last man to starter but he's gone now and he'll probably start a few games this year somewhere. Considine is a vet who plays well on special teams and is solid depth at safety. His concussions to my knowledge are not a pattern any more than any other injury. More than likely he was playing with a concussion in the second game. Decisions have to be made. I don't know maybe its the defenses version of the evolution of the TE is going to involve more safeties. I wasn't surprised Graham is ahead of Gorrer. We already paid Graham a signing bonus, he's a strong vet, a physical player, and a special teams ace. I felt C.Brown was a close competitor for the last spot. He's still learning but it seems like it really came down to special teams play, which Brown does better.

yeah, a questionable move to me too, didn't gorrer played solid last year or something? considine have 2 concussions all ready, if he gets his bell rung again he might be put IR, with NFL concussion rules, i think , too many concussions in short time period, i think ozzie was pressured to keep considine and cut gorrer.
