What more does Gorrer have to do?

34 posts in this topic

I really don't get how he's behind Graham on the depth chart. The guy does EVERYTHING.

Honestly... even though Williams and Smith each had a nice season last year, I'm not certain Gorrer shouldn't be battling them for snaps.

I really don't want to see another season where we're playing the wrong people on gamedays... (like in previous years where we were playing Carr over more talented corners).

I'm also sick of seeing the Ravens play this "side of the field" nonsense. Webb should be on the other team's best receiver no matter where they line up. None of this letting the other team off easy by allowing them to simply switch sides of the field to get away from Webb.

Gorrer and Graham's performances were the reasons I was comfortable trading the one year tendered Williams.

Agreed. I used to be a big supporter of Williams starting. But the way he was playing this preseason against Julio Jones, Justin Blackmon, and others, he has me worried. Hopefully Smith can take over that starting spot, and Gorrer can jump up to #3. I really like Gorrer.

i honestly dont know anything about gorrer, but ill have to go with the coaches here, they see these guys everyday and i would think they are a great judge of talent,,,could be wrong. So ill wait and see how williams does this year...because i liked him last year...and megatron and julio are elite WRs, williams isnt revis, i dont expect him to shut them down

I don't get where all this, for a lack of a better word, "hate" for Cary Williams is coming from. I mean, yeah, Williams strength isn't playing man on these tall, big, fast and athletic wide receivers, such as Julio Jones, Calvin Johnson, and Justin Blackmon. However, let's not forget, if those games were played during the regular season, Lardarius Webb would (hopefully) be going mano-a-mano against the opposing team's #1 WR (although, the case could be made to have Jimmy Smith line-up in front of Julio Jones, just to match his body frame, while Webb defends Roddy White).

The point is, Cary Williams is still a solid, veteran cornerback, especially when he's playing the nickel. There's not many teams that even have a #2 CB that is as good as Cary. I doubt he re-signs after this season, though.

But, in terms of Danny Gorrer, maybe he just needs to catch a break. After all, it was the injuries to Chris Carr, Domonique Foxworth and Jimmy Smith that allowed Webb to get his chance and shine. And the rest is history...

I agree. Gorrer is a special talent.

Honestly, I think alot of the coaching staff just doesnt have the right evluation of players. Gorrer is playmaker. Whoever is the 'brain' behind our new defense coaches need to relize they have a long road ahead of them. Pagano left and he was a special coach with the right mentality of how ravens defense should run. Dean pees and the rest of defense coaches (including st), will need to step UP. Alot of the young talent that look like they were in upswing last year has visually been lackluster this preseason. Im not going to accept having these coaches stem our talents. They better step up their game and make our team a WINNER...

Gorrer has done an incredible job in preseason, on special teams last year, and in his time on defense. The only problem would be his drops. He could have had like 2 or 3 picks last year.

Some people still don't understand what a "discussion" is.
We know that Ozzie in company are more knowledgeable than we are but the intire point on the boards is to express you opinion!
If you do not want to do so, then please tell me, why do you have an account?
You people never cease to amaze.

I think it's a size issue too. Williams and smith are bigger Corners, where as Gorrer is similar to Webb but not as good. Webb is probably the second best player on our defense.

So apparently I'm not the only person who thought Harbs was playing less talented people or people who under performed favorites over deserving people. I agree with you. I think both Graham and Gorrer would make great nickel corners or maybe even on the outside. If we could get a 4th for Cary I'd be satisfied with that and still have faith with the core we have. Would be better if we could maybe package Cary and a pick for another olb to help bolster the pass rush. What I like about Pagano was it didn't seem like he cared who played as long as he thought you would contribute which kept players fresh and set them up for success by putting them where they excelled.

Gorrer held Santonio completely in check in our game last season, which is why I believe he has potential.
[/quote]

Wasn't Webb on him?

Gorrer is great depth, having him as 5th CB is not disrespect. I bet he'll get some decent PT. He's worlds ahead of back-up CBs from the past... Walker, Ivy, Washington...

I love it when fans think they are better evaluators than coaches. I like what i have seen from Gorrer, but I'm not going to pretend the limited sample size I gave seen should justify him as a starter or even nickle. If he gets more playing time...great....as long as he performs.

Fans aren't always wrong. I thought we should've kept Barnes and he he's doing alright in his situation. Of course people will be wrong, but it's not as if the team is always getting it right. How's that Sergio Kindle pick turning out for us? I'm not doubting Ozzie, but he's been real hit or miss lately. People are still on the fence about Oher. He did get us our future offense in 08 in Flacco and Rice and though they were good picks, with all the other selections we had what happened?
We got Kruger, Oher and Webb who was a STEAL in that draft, but are most of these picks panning out as planned. Then there has been failed WR experiment for the past 3 years. Boldin was a success because we pulled the trigger and made a move, something I think we don't do enough. I think we just need to stop being as frugal with draft picks and start making moves for players they see fit instead of just waiting for whats available all the time. With the new pay scale it's not going to break the bank.

Also, remember it was the coaches decision to keep Evans in instead of letting Torrey play. Sometimes players need to learn how to practice though they can play in games. You can't always trust practice because some people for whatever reason play better in game situations.

Of course Webb had the pick 6 going against him, but I think Lardarius and Danny were each on him at different times in that game.

If we really look at our cornerback corps since the days of McAlister and Rolle (and Samari was one of my all time favorite, underrated corners), this is honestly one of the strongest we've had in quite a while. It's not even like we had a strong starting tandem and no depth or vice versa. We've gone from McAlister/Rolle to Rolle/Washington to Foxworth/Carr to Webb/Williams and now most likely Webb/Smith.

I'm ecstatic to have our fifth corner be as talented as Gorrer. Every year passing gets even more prevalent in this league, and we face quite a few stud quarterbacks this year. So having this sort of depth is fantastic. Corner has been such a weakness since Chris fell from grace and Samari's injuries caught up with him, I'm glad to finally see the team with a strong corner back squad. No matter who's playing Nickel, Dime, or waiting in the reserves, we have the talent.

Its one thing to discuss, its another to sit there and say you dont understand why another player is being evaluated higher than the other. Thats why youre on a discussion forum and not on the payroll. Im the realistic "you people" that trusts the organization.
