Im a Senior in high school I heard about this at my lunch and it was just sickening. I go to a similar school to that of Perry Hall, one of the top High schools in the county and I can not even imagine what was going through the other students heads in that Cafeteria.

Just a sick, senseless random act of violence..It's sad that you can't even go to school without worrying about being shot.

Metal detectors would cost a lot, but I think it would be worth it. Thats the only thing I can think of to help stop these random shootings. I graduated last year at C milton Wright and I heard a teacher was trying to lobby for them.

Apparently some boy who was in private school his whole life started his first day of public school today there. Talk about scary.

Yeah at first I thought it was bullying, but now I don't even know what to think. Who knows; I like how when I was reading comments on Yahoo news there were so many ignorant people that thought Perry Hall was like East Baltimore, yet failed to do any research on the area. Every single one of them thought it was gang related.

This was the scariest experience I have had so far. Our classroom was locked down to the teeth when news broke out. My teacher was in near tears. A friend of mine was in the cafeteria during the event and he saw it all happen, including our guidance counselor (Mr. Wasmer) tackling the gunman. It's so crazy.

I didn't know the shooter personally. I can link his facebook, which is public, but I'm uncertain about the rules behind that so I'll keep it off until I get some kind of OK.

I did know of the victim. He was a special needs student on his senior year, and was an overall jolly guy. It's just so surreal, to have this happen on the very first day of school. To think that less than a half hour ago, I was buying food from the vending machine where they pinned they guy on.

Honestly it could happen anywhere ; I'm a senior at a BCPS high school and while this certainly is frightening , we all have to move on at some point.

From a 18 year olds point of view, who just graduated and has spent his whole life in public school, I would be angry too. I completely understand why you would want to do so. But changing schools was really hard for me. I moved to harford county like 4 years ago and it was really tough making new friends and fitting in and all. I went through a heard 3 year strech mostly because of it. Even though I stayed in public school it felt like a private school coming from Kenwood to CMW.
I don't have a kid so I don't know what you must be feeling, but changing schools while still in highscool is really difficult. If he's a freshman it would probably be alot easier though. (not trying to tell you what to do just giving a perspective from a teens view).

When i moved up to PA, the school i went to middle school at, had experienced this. It was the year before i got there. A student pulled a gun, shot the principle and then shot himself. Many of the kids that were in the cafeteria during that time were in classes with me the year i started. I know how much it affects a whole school, and I'm glad you're ok kagejb. My prayers are with you and your classmates/teachers.

Classy Ray Rice...
This is going to be a long post - I don't really know where to start. I am trying to sift through hundreds of emails and messages about what happened at Perry Hall High School today. I am speechless and pretty much moved to tears. How is it that there is such a lack of SIMPLE HUMAN DECENCY AND KINDNESS toward one another? How does bullying reach THIS level?? Some people might think that bully
ing is only between two people and bystanders are not affected. Well that is crap! EVERYONE is affected. I am affected, YOU are affected. TWO lives have been hurt now...the shooter and the victim. RIDICULOUS! I can't possibly yell it loud enough or say it often enough - BE KIND TO EACH OTHER! It's EASY, it takes LESS ENERGY than being mean, it's FREE, and it's even a way to make YOURSELF feel better. BE KIND, BE KIND, BE KIND!!!! My saying is: YOU CAN BE A HERO TO SOMEONE WHO IS BEING BULLIED JUST BY BEING THEIR FRIEND!!! What if this kid had a friend to talk to??? The outcome may have been SO different. God Bless EVERYONE involved in this. While my foundation team prepares for another Pro Kindness Rally this fall, all I can do in the meantime is pray for everyone to stay safe, and BE KIND. BE the difference for someone!!!!

They have really great education and values. I should know I went to them.
Also, the Catholic high schools are more academically rigorous; they prepare you for college. Only problem's the cost; they don't get money from the state.

To the bully: Stop it, punk.
To the shooter: You should know that things will only get worse if you become a murderer.
From what iv'e heard the victim was a special ed student and that the police believe the shooter did not target the student.

This is true.

Edit: I think the shooter was planning on letting some more off until he got tackled by the guidance counselor. The special needs student was not the main target. Everybody in the cafeteria was the main target.

My question: How on Earth do you sneak a shotgun into school and no one notices?!
I can answer that. Kinda. I carried tear gas with me to school. College too. The simple answer is this - kids are SERIOUSLY creative. I can name off at least four ways off the top of my head kids got drugs into school and passed them out during class. And sadly, at a lot of schools these days, the ratio of security/adults to kids is way off and people just fall through the cracks.

A lot of people were saying taht he had it in a bag and assembled it behind a wall where nobody noticed. Then he just ran in shooting.

Edit: By the way, I'm not a reputable source of any kind. If you want actual, confirmed news, the press should be able to provide.

Such a sad situation.
I grew up hating Perry Hall because I'm from Parkville, it was our rivalry.
This sort of thing brings everyone together, as Americans.
My girlfriend, and other close friends went to Perry Hall High School, and being from Parkville, we always made jokes to each other back and forth, and I wish thats the worst thing we still had these days rather than parents, and kids, worrying about going to school.
School! A place of learning, and meeting new people. A place where kids should feel safe and get an education to move forward with their life. A place where parents feel proud to send there kids everyday, and watch there kids grow.
It's such a horrible and all too common occurence these days.
i hope we can find a solution to this issue and kids can be kids again.
